Adam LaRoche retires
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 08:32 PM) I am surprised the Chicago media are not focusing on Drake missing school. This arrangement w his son's school seems a little odd. It is not home schooling but rather special circumstances. Then you find out Adam made a $2 Million donation to his hometown school system. Do you think that had any effect on this unique school situation for Drake??? http://www.fstribune.com/story/2076023.html Big generous donation absolutely has an effect on this situation.

White Sox sign Jimmy Rollins
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 05:25 PM) If Jimmy Rollins is your #2 hitter on Opening Day in 2016, your team probably sucks. Ideally I'd put Melky there, but they batted him in the middle of the order last year and there really isn't another power bat to hit 5th. Unless you bat Navarro there when he plays.

White Sox sign Jimmy Rollins
If I had to guess the lineup for Opening Day, it'll be: Eaton RF/LF Rollins SS Abreu 1B Frazier 3B Cabrera LF/RF/DH (not really sure) Lawrie 2B Garcia/Ishikawa/Sands/late ST addition DH/RF(this could possibly be 8 spot if Navarro starts) Avila C Jackson CF

Adam LaRoche retires
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 01:09 PM) Ignoring lats year, Loney had a better WAR in the previous 2 years than LaRoche did. Both were basically the same poor player a year ago (however, against RHP, Loney was still solid even in his down 2015). Loney is younger than LaRoche and is a solid defender (not that defense at 1B is a critical metric). If you were going to project a bounce back, I'd bet more on the younger player than the older player. Fact that Loney can hit for a solid average isn't a bad thing (might be a bit more empty, but still not a bad thing). I'm 100% okay with giving Loney a shot. He's played on plenty of winning teams and have never heard anything bad about him. Am also fine if they take another route. I'm guessing Loney wouldn't get much coin at all, so you are talking "Jimmy" Rollins money. Loney, last year, vs. RHP was .296 / .341 / .713...not the best, but not awful either. LaRoche, last year, vs. RHP was .221 / .318 / .697 Loney also doesn't strike out and handles a bat far better than LaRoche. Struck out 34 times in 104 games vs. LaRoche's 133 in 127 games. Given the roles we are talking about (platoon player getting AB's primarily vs. RHP), I don't see how Loney isn't an upgrade over LaRoche. I don't think Loney would cost much either. I wouldn't mind getting him for nothing or the Sox just going with Avi/Melky at DH. If they were to get him, I'd like to see him at 1B more often than LaRoche was last season (was hoping the same about LaRoche this season).

Projected starter for OD?
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 01:06 PM) What about Q????? I see people posting on this site saying Q is not appreciated by baseball fans and here you are a White Sox fan who doesn't appreciate him. I just would rather go on a Saturday personally.

Projected starter for OD?
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 11:23 AM) Yep. This is why I'm going on Saturday April 9th instead of OD. Me too.

Adam LaRoche retires
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 08:11 AM) JR said the issue is resolved but I think Adam Eaton and Chris Sale especially, should issue an apology to Kenny Williams Agreed. They may be correct, but you can't really talk that way to the media (nor behind closed doors) to a man in his position.

2016 White Sox Opening Day Roster Predictions
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 09:22 AM) I don't think there's any chance that they keep 13 pitchers. I think there is a chance they can with 8 games to start the year with no off days but it won't last long.

3/20 vs A's
QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 06:37 PM) Physically, it would be better as well. But there's always the debate about building innings in the minors vs. experience of pitching against MLB players Do both: have him start in the minors until July/August then call him up for the pen for extra work/gain experience and help for a potential play off push.
-
3/20 vs A's
Sands was a waiver claim on the 40 and Ishikawa was signed to a minor league deal correct? I'd have to expect the guy already on the 40 to make it and the other to go to the minors to save the depth.

Gay Cards pitcher quit after teammate said...
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 07:25 PM) I am honestly shocked at the fact this story has gotten zero publicity. Agreed. This is just terrible.

3/19 vs Dodgers
QUOTE (Baron @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 03:45 PM) Garcia is really god awful defensively. He fell down trying to get a ball in the corner of the OF. If Drake was still with the team, he wouldn't have fallen.

Adam LaRoche retires
QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 06:24 PM) ^^^ Indeed. Someone pinch me, I must be dreaming ..... Would be best case scenario.

Adam LaRoche retires
QUOTE (Tony @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 04:12 PM) Then this "genius" move of getting rid of LaRoche to save the 13 million was for nothing. It's only a good move if they use the savings to upgrade the club. Just because they don't add someone right away doesn't mean they can't use the $13 million later. I hope they take on Ethier's full salary for 2016 and get Dodgers to pay most next year.

Adam LaRoche retires
QUOTE (heirdog @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 03:19 PM) Borrowing from Occam's Razor where the simplest explanation is likely the most plausible, here is what probably happened: Rick Hahn, the smartest man in the room, decided he would kill 2 birds with one stone. He set up Kenny to fall on the sword by playing on his emotions about players thinking he is weak. He also wanted LaRoche out of here and knew the only thing to send him packing would be the son angle. So Rick decided to go to Kenny and float "no player will say it but they don't like having Drake around" and "they wish you, Kenny, would step in but he don't think you have the guts to". Knowing Kenny would create a maelstrom and personalize the issue to himself...which now he can't revert back from, Rick will soon have full GM power and $13 million to spend on a championship roster. You've won the internet.

Adam LaRoche retires
QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 03:12 PM) Well if this is like the past, every player that crosses Kenny was traded or shown the door.. Is this Sale's fate?? If we aren't contenders mid-season? Maybe.

Adam LaRoche retires
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 12:23 PM) no s***. What a bunch of coddled babies we have on this team. Sale and Eaton are showing their true colors. I'm starting to put a lot more credence in those D-Backs rumors about Eaton. He's a guy that's all happy go lucky when things are going his way but mopes and complains at the first sign of adversity. Agree. And if we suck over the next year and a half to 2 years and they look to possible rebuilding, Eaton is first one gone.

Adam LaRoche retires
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 12:22 PM) It's like going to the dentist. It hurts now, but in a week or so, the Sox will be fine and will theoretically have $13 million to play with. That's what I'm thinking happens. This sucks so bad right now but when this (hopefully) eventually blows over, all will be fine.

Adam LaRoche retires
QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 11:07 AM) Which creates even more issues in the clubhouse. Agree 1000%. If you have an issue with someone in the work place, you don't go directly to said person.

Adam LaRoche retires
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 10:34 AM) So is he retiring or not? The ultimate slap in the face would be to have him come back and stink up the joint again. Seriously. It'd be terrible if he came back at this point.

Adam LaRoche retires
I definitely loved this story a whole lot more when we didn't know anything and assumed he was retiring because he knew he couldn't contribute because of his back.

Adam LaRoche retires
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 09:55 AM) That's on Adam himself, not Sox management. They just told him to dial it back. He's the one that decided to quit instead. Agree 100%. Dude didn't have to retire. That's on him. It is kind of amazing that the players are rallying with him after he quit on them.

Adam LaRoche retires
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 09:20 AM) Your guess would be wrong. I said who it was yesterday. It's in the thread. Definitely don't have time to go back through hundreds of posts to find it. Who was it and do you have a credible source or at least any reason for knowing?

Adam LaRoche retires
If I had to guess which player spoke to KW about him being there, it's Latos. Just my guess.

Boston writer creates Hanley Ramirez rumor
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 07:36 PM) That's exactly what he's saying. False. As the title of the thread says, he created it. Nothing about them actually talking about a trade. Speculation on his part: 1) Hanley should be a DH. 2) White Sox DH spot opens up, along with $13 mill. 3) it has been suggested earlier in the off season Red Sox could potentially eat some money in a deal. Boom. There's the writer's connection. Also, no one else has said anything about it so it has no legs.
