QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 09:25 PM) The bottom half of that lineup is still a black hole IMO. Yeah. It really sucks being in the position we're in. A nice core of like 5 guys, not enough resources to get more pieces to fit around it. It's be easier to say that we should rebuild if the core only had around 2 years of control left rather than the 4+ years.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 09:20 PM) Sign Upton, trade for Frazier, that lineup is gonna score some runs Eaton CF Cabrera LF/DH Abreu 1B Upton RF Frazier 3B LaRoche DH/Thompson LF Navarro/Avila C Saladino (maybe Ramirez) SS Sanchez 2B I'd still like to get a veteran at a middle infield spot (and one that can maybe hit in 2-spot).
-
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 09:19 PM) To contend? Not even close Exactly. I kinda just want to stay away from this. Yet I don't know what else they should do since I don't think they should rebuild (...yet).
-
Would Upton, trading for Lawrie, re-signing Alexei be enough? It feels like we would still need to make one more addition to put us over the top. I already figure Thompson and LaRoche to platoon in any scenario (Thompson in OF, whichever OF needs a break at DH).
-
If we're going to sign a power outfielder I'd rather sign Cespedes since we won't give up a draft pick.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 08:57 PM) No. No. No. Please don't let this happen. I'd much prefer Cespedes or Heyward. Agree on both (though I don't even want Cespedes haha).

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 08:55 PM) Brian Bilek @ChiSoxraBBit 7m7 minutes ago #WhiteSox talking to free agents with QOs attached. Upton is their prime target. Should be an interesting few days. There were rumors at the deadline that the Sox liked Upton. Oh no.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 08:36 PM) Yes ,I know ,I looked it up ahead of time. So are you making a point or just giving me facts ? Take a stand buddy. I value your opinion . What's your outlook on his worth in a trade. Will he be a successful ML starting pitcher ? Who knows.

Jeff Samardjiza signs with SF Giants, 5/90.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 08:06 PM) Based on what Cooper said, I don't think Micah Johnson will be with the organization in a week or two Personally I'm not as high on him as I used to be. Seems like the kind of guy who will always deal with injuries -

QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 08:05 PM) At least he took the blame. I think Samardzija and Coop we just not a good fit much in the same way Swisher and Walker couldn't work together. Yeah sometimes it just doesn't work out. Oh well, it's in the past now. -
QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 08:10 PM) He can be traded as a player to be named later similar to how trea Turner was traded last season Wasn't there a minor change to that rule so that can't happen like that again? Like player to be named later has to be resolved sooner?
-
QUOTE (Knackattack @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 08:03 PM) Yeah Trayce will play RF for Parra and then just take LaRoche's ab's from the DH position. Just gotta make sure you ensure he won't ever have to come up to hit if he is on base, have fun with that Robin! Lol
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 08:00 PM) I'm assuming that Thompson would play against the lefties and Parra/LaRoche would play against the righties. Correct me if I'm wrong. Well Thompson can't play 2 positions in the starting lineup.
-
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 07:47 PM) I'm not sure myself so throwing it out there: If we were to trade for Frazier (not involving fullmer/anderson) and then sign 2 marginally priced free agents would we be legit contenders for at least a wild card spot? Say Gerrardo Parra and Asdrubal Cabrerra. C- Avila/Navarro 1b- Abreu 2b- Cabrerra 3b- Frazier ss- Saladino/sanchez lf- Melky cf- Eaton rf- Parra/Thompson dh- Laroche/Thompson Same rotation with EJ How does Thompson platoon with 2 guys in this scenario? Neither Parra not LaRoche should play against lefties.
-
Dodgers also get pick number 36 as well.
-
Guys Fulmer can't be traded so don't worry.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 04:19 PM) Why? They have Jansen who is a beast. Also, going after Iwakuma. Or to just give more depth to the bullpen. Chapman gets ninth and everyone else moves down a peg.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 04:07 PM) I think it could apply to either pitcher depending on the Rockies preference. I think Q and Arenado is pretty close to being 1-1 with the Sox likely kicking something in but if we're talking Sale than its the Rockies likely kicking something in. I'm not saying this will happen, just using Arenado as an example since his name was brought up. I would be stunned if Colorado actually traded him. Agree. I wouldn't be shocked to hear about an extension in the next few months for him.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 01:03 PM) Jeff Passan @JeffPassan 15m15 minutes ago From the not-a-surprise department: Multiple GMs say because of the price of free agents, they expect trade action in Nashville to be big. Last year's was huge. I think there were more trades last year than like the 5 combined prior.
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 12:32 PM) Cespedes just had a career year, I'd rather not pay the price tag that comes along with it. Heyward will definitely be worth his contract, defense in general is still very underrated. Preventing a run is the same as generating one. Agree. I prefer Cespedes to Upton, but I really don't want either.
-
QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 09:42 AM) O'Day is probably worth that but why would the Orioles, a team that doesn't project to be very good, dish out for him? I find it odd too. Especially when they've been so cheap with their spending past few years.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 11:49 AM) Yup. So really we'd be signing him to like a 5 year deal. Only reason why I'm ok with them signing him. I don't really want either Upton or Cespedes (depending on amount of years) personally. Upton just seems like the kind of guy that would come here and just suck. Injury prone, K's a lot, below average defense. Pass. Although if they signed one of those two I would probably be irrationally excited until we found out either were bad deals.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 11:46 AM) Ya I agree. He's in a unique position being 26 years old. He'll double dip. Yep. He'll sign a big deal now and then opt out around 30/31 and get another 5/6 year deal.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 11:38 AM) I feel like Hayward is going to have a career like Adrian Beltre. Some great offensive years, some .700 -.720 ops years, but always elite defense. Unsure if that's worth 200 million. I think if we were to get him on an 8/9 year deal with opt-outs after year 4 or 5, his older years won't even matter because he likely won't be our problem.
