Mariners signed Aoki. No amount listed yet but I can't see it being much. Dude is a solid ballplayer regardless.
-
No offense, but there's already 2 threads filled with Price signing opinions.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 09:52 PM) Honestly, the Price deal may have just boosted Q's value high enough that it could be Q and someone like Beck. Why would it effect a deal with the Rockies? They weren't in on Price.

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 07:07 PM) Trumbo to Baltimore for Clevenger Looks like another player is going to Baltimore too. Wow. Seems like a lot to give up for a career minor league catcher. Don't understand the rush to get rid of him. Tender him a contract and work on dealing him between now and Spring Training.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 06:27 PM) Haha well played. I think Heyward is a little different though, and hopefully the FO sees it that way, just because of his age. He's not over 30 so there's gotta be something to that. Can also offer opt-out clauses after years 4, 5, and 6 as well. We'd get lucky and we wouldn't have to pay for his later years (not that he would even be that old on let's say an 8 year deal).

Red Sox sign David Price for 217 million over 7 years

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 05:12 PM) Like others have said, this deal makes Sale & Quintana's trade value sky rocket. They are not trading either of them. Not anytime soon anyway. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 04:41 PM) maybe you are right, but he did take a huge discount to sign an extension with the sox. sooooo who knows. He was coming off one season in the rotation and we had him under control for a while anyway. It's a completely different situation than being a free agent.

Chris Sale on the open market in 4 years will easily top that deal. Unfortunately no way in hell it comes from us. Also, I think Arrieta's emergence last year really made them not want to go all out for another starter in the top tier. I could see then signing someone in the next group: Samardzija. Or they could spend on Greinke and go with a 4-5 year deal.
-
I think the Pirates lineup is deep enough to the point where he could be plugged in to the 6/7 spot and they could hope for the best. Also, they are looking to get better defensively at first.
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 04:02 PM) for me, i think it is a gamble at 12 mil.... no way, maybe 9 or 10. oh well. $3 million is chump change in the MLB nowadays.

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 02:46 PM) I think he was making a joke based on the name. hi8is = hiatus Yep. Dumb jokes are my specialty. But back on topic: Park just signed a 4 year deal worth 12 million. That's not a bad gamble at all. I think Kang received similar. I can't see Hwang getting any more than they did so he could potentially be a solid gamble at a better price than the Twins and Pirates paid. Watch Hwang sign for 4/10 or 3/8 or 9.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 01:34 PM) White Sox shouldn't have any interest in Chris Carter or Mark Trumbo right? Both available. Don't really fit. Yep. No place for either nor do I want them.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 12:25 PM) Dude. You have no idea. My wife whet bonkers... Had an affair with a fat girl and then holed herself up in a hotel room for 4 days doing God knows what, leaving me with my son at our house. Then she starts claiming I kidnapped our kid and was threatening to put out an amber alert. So I filled for a restraining order and got full custody. Ever since its been... Divorce. Lawsuits. Insane amounts of money being thrown away. The good news is that I re united with my first love who just so happened to turn out to be a cheerleader for a professional sports team. So that's going splendid - everything happens for a reason, so they say. f*** it You asked. Dear God that escalated quickly. Sorry you had to deal with all that.

QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 07:09 AM) If you want to get technical, they've only had 5 playoff appearances in the last 56 seasons. Wow...and when I started getting into baseball hardcore the year was like 2000/2001 (I was born in 91). So I've seen them in the playoffs three times in 15 years which I thought was/is bad. 5 in 56 is just embarassing. It helps that we snuck in that World Series win in 05 though.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 12:09 AM) Mark Buehrle and Adam Dunn point and laugh at Trevor Bauer Mark Buehrle is somewhere crushing a 6-pack right now. And yes, I'm fully aware it's before 7 am right now.
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 09:19 PM) how is it going, long time no see. Would you say that he's been on a -wait for it....hiatus
-
I still think we end up signing Freese or trading for Lawrie. Maybe even as soon as next week during the meetings.
-
Also don't forget: last time Oakland traded their starting 3B, the guy won MVP the following season
-
QUOTE (Vance Law @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 07:13 PM) He certainly wouldn't play the outfield. Play him at third. If and when that doesn't work, move to DH. The guy played shortstop through all of 2014. 3rd base is shortstop for guys who shouldn't play shortstop anymore. Yeah...I'll take it a step further and say he was the starting shortstop for a team that won the division so he didn't hurt them too much. Play him at third until that fails.

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 07:06 PM) I think that should be a pretty telling sign that the real problem with this organization and developing talent in the past starts with actually picking the talent and not developing it. Not that the developing part has gone swimmingly either, but it gets a lot harder to develop talent when the talent is flawed from the beginning. Yeah...the hitting side hasn't been too pretty but they've been good with arms lately. So they probably keep going that route. As of right now, I believe we have pick 10, 33 and 54 as our first 3 picks.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 06:09 PM) Even the Swisher trade, Gio turned out well, but the others were nothing, and Gio had plenty of detractors on this board. Honestly, most of the trades the Sox have made where they dealt away prospects, they haven't really turned into anything (besides Gio). Other ones that have made an impact in the MLB that come to mind are Chris Young (the OF one) and Chris Carter. Even in the Peavy deal when we traded like 4 prospects away, the best guy is a fringe long reliever at this point.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 06:02 PM) Green sox hero worships prospects. His ideal team would be 25 guys making minimum, moved ou the next year because they would be due a raise. He still says trading for Freddy Garcia was stupid, even though it worked out in the form of a championship, and he ignores the Sox traded him for Gio and Floyd. lol none of the guys we dealt away in that trade really amounted to much (Morse broke out in his upper-20s with a different team so he likely would have been dfa'd or released or whatever with us at some point as well).
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 05:46 PM) Sox made the playoffs when they traded for Swisher. Wow. That's actually true.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 02:04 PM) I've been staunchly against the idea of trading for Hanley but if Boston is willing to eat half of his salary, half of the 2019 vesting option and take LaRoche, I think my mind could be changed. In total, the Sox would be on the hook for about 45M through the '19 season. I think Hanley's bat is worth 11M per year. Would Hanley be the primary DH in this situation? I could live with that as long as we don't have to see him play the outfield.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 29, 2015 -> 07:49 PM) The problem with a Lawrie/Saladino/Sanchez/Abreu infield is that there is very little power there besides Abreu. I don't see Sanchez and Saladino hitting over 10 homers each and Lawrie isn't known for his power either. I guess I'd be ok with that group if they all hit for high averages and played sparkling defense, but I don't see that as being realistic. Lawrie hit 16 playing most of his team's home games in the coliseum. If he came here I think he could reach 20.
