  1. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 08:47 AM) while this is a good question, i am a little different in my outlook on this. and to be brutally honest, i really don't give a oot on this, as long as he gets on based as much as he can, hit in 140+ while k'ing less than 80, then i am fine. Yeah the power numbers aren't concerning since he's a leadoff hitter but it's nice to have some pop at a position that usually doesn't have it. Especially in this power deprived lineup.
  2. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 08:03 AM) i have read some articles yesterday and this line keeps popping up. it is driving me crazy on how people want to use phrases for dramatic flair. it is like saying eaton has the potential to be a 20 hrs and 30 sb player. That brings up a question I've been wondering. Does everyone on here think that Eaton is the guy we saw last year where he can hit around 15 homers a year or more of the guy we saw 2 years ago. Having him be the guy who can hit 15 homers would be a plus in center, but also wouldn't hurt if he had to move to left.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 08:13 AM) I would love the Sox to get Puig. Huge core piece, at a most likely a discounted (at least a little) price. I don't care if every White Sox likes him. The Dodgers have won a lot of games with him supposedly being a huge distraction. So what? This guy has as big of a ceiling as anyone in the game. Agree. I bet we wouldn't have to deal Q for him and if we did, other pieces would be coming back.
  4. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 07:53 AM) Is Flowers good? No. Is getting someone better realistic? No. Yeah we can def live with him behind the plate as long as we upgrade other positions. Catcher shouldn't be as high of a priority as finding a 3B, SS or another OF.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 07:35 AM) That's probably it. But if the home plate umpire is going to be bad and call balls strikes more often when Flowers is catching, it's still a good thing for White Sox pitchers. It is amazing how far Flowers has fallen from the pedestal he was placed here in about 2011. AJ had to go. If Flowers hit nothing, he still was better than AJ. Now, anything positive attributed to Flowers is quickly shot down as unimportant. There are more than a few people on here that really can't mention pitch framing as a positive to any catcher they may like moving forward without looking foolish. I just don't understand how having more balls called strikes when you are catching can't be considered a really good thing. I think it could just be coincidence with who is calling balls and strikes that day. Someone with time could probably do a whole lot of digging into it. Other than pitch framing though, he's not very good behind the plate. Always tries to back hand every pitch in the dirt that end up going to backstop when he should be getting down blocking them.
  6. QUOTE (Baron @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 07:14 PM) That's a pretty reasonable deal for what he brings to the table. What's Flowers going to make after arbitration? I think mlbtr had him projected at around $4 mill
  7. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 05:31 PM) If he can can play rock solid defense and hit around .275 with 10 homers, I'd love to get him. He's younger and cheaper than Freese at the very least. He reminds me of Kang after watching that highlight video. Doesn't have the track record Kang but with the Korean market still being so ripe I bet he will sign about as much or less as Kang. Would be worth the gamble.
  8. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 04:49 PM) I'd rather give this guy a shot than sign David Freese. Probably be cheaper too.
  9. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 03:23 PM) If Johnson is really back on track to being the pitcher we thought we were going to have before 2014 happened, the rotation next year should be pretty dang solid for the next 4 years. And then we still have Fulmer, Danish, Adams and Montas all waiting in the wings. Unfortunately only 5 spots. Have to dip into that depth for bats.
  10. No teams bid on Ah-Seop Son. You think the Sox will make a bid on Hwang when he's posted now that he can be.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 23, 2015 -> 08:17 AM) I'd trade Danks for Walker straight up in an instant, but I don't see the Pirates being interested in a deal like that. Danks plus cash (and maybe a low level prospect?) for Walker. Then re-sign Buehrle to be the 5th starter if he doesn't go to Cards.
  12. What level do you guys think he will start at? I hope he carries it over and he can be up in our outfield sooner rather than later. When he is up, we can say that we have an Engel in the outfield.
  13. T.J. Rivera of the Mets is pretty interesting to me. Experience at second, short and third, light bat but has hit at every level in the minors, doesn't strike out a lot and gets on base at a nice clip. Downside is that hes already 27. Kind of odd he never got a shot with the Mets. Maybe they're hoping he can slide through the draft? I think someone would definitely take him as a backup infielder at least.
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 21, 2015 -> 12:55 PM) http://m.mlb.com/news/article/157830358/to...in-rule-5-draft Thanks!
  15. By any chance, is there going to be a write-up of potential Rule 5 guys who were left off their respective team's 40 man rosters?
  16. QUOTE (coco1997 @ Nov 21, 2015 -> 12:27 PM) Are you thinking of Brett Lawrie or Jed Lowrie? Lawrie is with Oakland. I think he means Lowrie but is typing Lawrie. He has his contract details right anyway haha
  17. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 21, 2015 -> 10:48 AM) I also think they don't wana come out and say they're going to be aggressive and push for the playoffs again in case some team offers the a small fortune for Sale or Quintana. That wouldn't look good. Agree 100%. I also don't get why some posters on here believe if we trade Quintana, it signals rebuild. It's just trading from a strength to add to a weakness. They can still compete moving Quintana it just depends on if the bats are MLB ready, or close with years of control either way.
  18. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 21, 2015 -> 11:26 AM) Just guessing but I think the Astros would want to relieve some salary in return for taking on Robertson's contract. I suspect either Lawrie or Valbuena would be part of the return for Robertson, which I would be fine with. I'm probably off way base here but I'd shoot for Lawrie or Valbuena + Musgrove. I'd take that deal. I also came across an article about which players the Astros are likely to lose during Rule V draft. Maybe we could grab another one or two to go along with Lowrie (offsets a little cash/can plug in at third or short) in a deal (along with someone protected like Musgrove). http://climbingtalshill.com/2015/11/21/hou...n-rule-v-draft/
  19. Astros "strongly" interested in acquiring a closer. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/11/astr...ing-closer.html Seriously, if they make a legit offer for Robertson, it'd be hard to refuse. Freeing up the money and acquiring young players would be nice. Edit: also, didn't he turn down more money from them to come to us? Or am I remembering incorrectly. The point of me mentioning that is they wouldn't mind taking on what he has remaining if they had offered even more in the first place.
  20. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 07:52 PM) With all of this going on with Loria and Boras/Ozuna I can't imagine any team will pay full value for Ozuna, espcially since he's coming off of a down year. EJ and Avi really doesn't seem like that bad of deal...maybe we throw in Beck too? I just don't see why they would want Avi wth Yelich as the primary LF and Stanton as the primary RF unless they decide to sacrifice a little defense in center with Yelich's bat there.
  21. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 07:26 PM) Per @MLBPipeline, highly ranked Rule 5-eligible #WhiteSox prospects NOT added to 40-man: Ps Onelki Garcia, Myles Jaye, 1B Keon Barnum. https://twitter.com/philgrogers/status/667868208834154498 Sort of shocked that Jaye wasn't protected.
  22. If we don't give up much to get him, I'm for it. If he does good, we can offer a QO after 2016.
  23. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 10:51 AM) http://www.thecatbirdseatblog.com/blog/201...de-a-bad-player In regards to the swapping Avi for another struggling youngster: Garcia for Asche
  24. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 07:39 AM) Disagree 100%. With a core of Abreu, Sale, Eaton and Quintana all in the prime of their career and Rodon soon to be breaking out there is no reason to completely rebuild. While 2016 may not be the year to go all in, I think they should be setting themselves up this year to make that push in 2017. So what would you do for this year? Sign stop gaps (guys like Freese and Asdrubal Cabrera, maybe one year of Doug Fister) and hope to flip them?
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 07:00 PM) Posters mention players ceilings all the time. That is best case scenario. The problem IMO with Avi and a lot of White Sox players recently, is they are not high baseball IQ guys, and that hurts you in so many ways. You make bad decisions on the bases, in the field, and at the plate. It takes those guys longer to adjust back after pitchers and defenses have adjusted to them. While high ceilings are great, and you need to have these guys in your organization , relying on that being reached or coming close is fools gold. Agree. They don't have very smart players.
