  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 02:34 PM) I believe you but that's ridiculous for a player like Gordon. Man, NFL teams have it made. They get to cut guys and those 8 year deals mean nothing. They don't have to pay up like baseball teams do. Think of all the guys the Sox would have just cut. LaRoche, Dunn, Melky, Rios. I don't think they can do it after year one. I'm pretty sure they have to at least honor half the deal.
  2. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 01:04 PM) Who cares? The sox playing second fiddle doesn't stop me from enjoying baseball This. I really don't care and don't know why people do.
  3. Where would he hit hypothetically? 5th behind Frazier and then Lawrie 6th, LaRoche 7th?
  4. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 10:46 AM) So realistically, what teams are left that could be in the market for Cespedes' services? I can think of the Sox, Tigers, Orioles, Royals, Angels, and possibly the Mets. Are there any others? I'd take the Royals out. I doubt they will spend money on anyone especially with all their guys free agent eligible after 2017.
  5. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 10:29 AM) Source: #Mets close to signing free-agent outfielder Alejandro De Aza. Maybe another potential landing spot off the board. So what teams does this leave for the big three? After the Leake deal are the Cards out on one of the big three too? I'm expecting the Cards to land Gordon if they really are preparing to move Holliday to first.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 09:46 AM) You have to wonder how Wainwright he will be, but that's a great rotation. Good signing. Agree. I'd much rather have Leake at around 5/75 (what's been reported so far) than Samardzija at 5/90 and giving up a draft pick.
  7. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 09:10 AM) I think Cespedes goes back to Mets as well. Cuddyer retiring helps this out.
  8. QUOTE (South Sider @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 10:32 PM) Eventually these free agents are going to have to realize that teams are not bidding up for their services. There's just not enough suitors. Makes me laugh at the Cubs a little bit for splurging so much on Heyward. They might have thought they were setting the market, but at this point it's probably going to look like a huge overpayment. That would be true if they were the only team in on Heyward but others did offer him more guaranteed money.
  9. I actually have a Cubs fan friend who has been to more Sox games than Cubs games over the past 3-4 years due to just wanting to watch baseball. The Cell is also easier easier to get to and in and out of than Wrigley from where we live. Sox fans have no excuse for not going haha
  10. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 06:42 AM) No other contenders for Gordon? Why? I'm guessing because of his age. If he could be had on a 4 year deal, I wouldn't be mad if we got him. I think he ends up going to St. Louis with Holliday playing first/seeing a little time in the outfield/DHing in AL parks.
  11. If he exceeds everyone's expectations offensively and plays great defense, does Tim Anderson need to find a new position?
  12. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 20, 2015 -> 05:32 PM) Being optimistic.....240/.300/.340 with 10 hrs and 15 steals. If he can do that and play near gold glove level D he will be a huge success in my book. And Sanchez only started 180 out of about 500 minor league games at SS. I don't think he's going to be our everyday SS. His arm doesn't pass the eye test right from the start for me. This is what I'm expecting. If everyone else hits, I will take this. More is a bonus.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 20, 2015 -> 04:38 PM) I'm just trying to be optimistic. A little too overly optimistic. I think you're gonna be disappointed.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 20, 2015 -> 12:15 PM) They don't typically have press conferences unless it's a big name guy. Frazier would count as one, but Lawrie would not. With that said, I bet they don't have one for either. Most likely this. But I'm sure if they do add a Cespedes or Upton, they will do one for all three.
  15. Nah fresh year. Bat Melky in 2-hole.
  16. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 19, 2015 -> 12:56 AM) So you guys think this will simmer until after the holiday and new year? With both basically having no market (it appears) I'm willing to bet they are the big free agents who don't end up signing until mid-January.
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 11:11 AM) Gut feeling at some point between now and next Thursday, Upton signs with the Sox for five years, with an opt-out after two or three. BTW, these opt-outs are kinda bugging some people...and I get it. I'd rather not have the opt-out be that soon if we're giving up a draft pick. Rather have it after 4.
  18. If their prices come down enough and there is low interest, it's likely other teams would jump in.
  19. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 07:46 AM) I understand your rationale in using Avi as La Roche's platoon partner, and I think that he would perform adequately. My preference for sending him to Charlotte is for his benefit. He would get much more playing time there, than he would just facing LH pitching, and DH'ing. He really needs to develop both his hitting and fielding, which he can better do playing every day. Agree. Let him work in left field and DH at Charlotte and in the event that LaRoche is terrible, release him and call up Avi.
  20. For what it's worth, I'd rather go with Saladino/Sanchez and one of the big 3 OF than Alexei or Desmond or Rollins and Avi.
  21. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 12:32 AM) Is there any news on either of these guys? Have the White Sox been connected to either in any significant way? Are either of them nearing a deal? Mostly just speculation at this point. Doesn't look like much of a market for any since the big spenders aren't looking to spend on outfielders. If we land one at significantly less than what they were projected to get, I'll be thrilled. I'm in the Cespedes camp however.
  22. Send Avi to Triple A and work him in left field and to get every day at bats. If LaRoche looks awful after a month or two into the season, cut bait and call Avi up to DH and get work in the outfield.
  23. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 12:23 AM) Iwakuma back in Seattle on a one year deal with two years of vesting options. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/12/mari...hi-iwakuma.html Lmao, the Dodgers are not having a good off season as far as pitching is concerned. Damn. That doesn't move our comp pick up. What is there, 9 guys with QOs that need to sign still?
  24. I don't understand what people mean when they say we would weaken a rival by taking their guy. He's not there now and I don't think the Royals are making much of an effort to keep him.
  25. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 06:39 PM) Upton's Career Stats are remarkably consistent. Even his Inter-League numbers are very close to his performance against N. L. teams. The guy seems to hit righties and lefties about the same, whether at home, or on the road. Even where he bats in the lineup has had very little effect. All of that is very reassuring, especially regarding the concerns that some of us have expressed about acquiring National League players. If we could put him in the heart of the order and just pencil in his career numbers of .271 .352 .473 .825, the Sox really could be ready to compete for a couple of Post Season runs. Nice info. Well done.
