Bob Sacamano replied to Rooftop Shots's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 06:51 AM) I will say I'm 99.9999% say that Rodon won't be involved. Yeah I'm just saying that I really only consider a few guys untouchable prospects in our org prospect wiese and hes one of them. -

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 06:41 AM) The Chicago #Whitesox are looming as the #frontrunner to acquire #Athletics ace Jeff Samardzija after the clubs engaged in serious talks https://twitter.com/BNightengale/status/541918673565261824 Oakland and the White Sox have been frequent trade partners through the years. Execs on both sides say they work well together. #Samardzija https://twitter.com/Buster_ESPN/status/541924420751605760 As long as Rodon and Anderson are not involved, I'm ok dealing for him -
If they are willing to go $9+ mill on a closer, I think that means they are willing to let the payroll go to about $115 mill

Sox Sign David Robertson - 4 yr, $46 mil

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 12:45 AM) Ugh. I know our bullpen sucked last year, but I hate giving big money to relievers, especially on anything over 2 years. Robertson is a fantastic pitcher, and has been for quite a few years, so I wouldn't worry about him busting like I would with Duke, but Duke is only making $5M a season, which isn't a crippling amount. I would hate to see us pay a reliever $12M+ a year. That's insane to me. I agree

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 12:15 AM) So they essentially got Billy McKinney and Dan Straily for free. I wonder who the Cubs trade Hammel to in 7 months. Probably Oakland lol with the way Beane deals I wouldn't be surprised

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 7, 2014 -> 05:53 PM) http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/white-...dos-future-week Yep. If we acquire another OF, he's likely traded to whoever wants him for anything. With Baltimore losing Markakis, Cruz and Young, they lack an OF and a DH. Maybe they would give Dayan a shot on the cheap.

QUOTE (MDWhiteSoxFan @ Dec 7, 2014 -> 05:45 PM) Ok so most of the talks are we are going to add an OF, SP, possibly pen help. Who are your 3 "dream" players to acquire weather FA or Trade? Justin Upton Aroldis Chapman or Jonathan Papelbon Jordan Zimmerman Other arms I'd like to see a couple of them Brandon Morrow (Maybe he can be a solid 3/4 or even a good reliever can't remember his stats as a closer but I don't think they were great). Kris Medlan Justin Masterson Edinson Volquez Tim Stauffer KRod Sergio Romo Alexi Ogando Joel Hanrahan (He was very good for 4 years before last year falling off the face of the earth not sure what happened) I'm like 90% sure Hanrahan already signed with a team. Also add Beachy to your list
-
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 6, 2014 -> 02:30 AM) I'd rather have Joe Thatcher. I'm with you. Also, let Surkamp battle for the last spot in the pen to potentially have 3 lefties

How about a scenario where we get Ethier and pay him for the next two years. Dodgers get Danks and pay for him the next two years. In year 3 when we still have Ethier, the Dodgers pay more than half making it not bad for us if we want to cut him after year 2.

Merkin talks winter meetings and other possibilities

I too go to about 10-15 games a year. Last season, I used to buy the cheapest tickets then sit down on the 100 level because I started to notice the security people were not checking tickets. Always worked for me. -
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 01:44 PM) Sale's and Scherzer's situations are not comparable. Scherzer is a free agent, Sale still had 4 years of team control left when he signed. The idea behind Sale's contract is to pay him well more than you would have to in his pre arbitration and 1st year arbitration years to save money in his later years. This is perfect. He gives himself security too incase he has a serious injury and doesn't came back the same.
-
If everyone on here is stingy about giving huge contracts to pitchers its gonna be interesting when Sale is towards the end of his deal wanting ace money. Already took his security contract. With the sox not wanting to invest a lot of money on pitching, no way Sale is here in the long run. (Not advocating to trade Sale now or anything but there might be a time to actually consider it) Edit: ace money in like 5 years will be around 30 mill easily. Even if he took lesser you're still playing more than 20 mill a year

What does the lineup look like with Melky? I have it as: Eaton CF Cabrera LF Abreu 1B/DH LaRoche DH/1B Garcia RF Gillaspie 3B Ramirez SS Flowers C Semien/Sanchez/Johnson 2B

Snodgress and Carroll "not offered contracts"

Wesley Wright non-tendered. Threw to a 3.18 era. Throws left-handed. Why not? -
Predicting some sort of buy-low option in the rotation. Sort of like the Paulino deal except with a guy who has actually had success (Morrow, Medlen, Beachy, etc.)

QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 2, 2014 -> 07:22 PM) there is 1 who is the sp, i would really like a chance at him. They both are SP
-
QUOTE (kwill @ Dec 2, 2014 -> 06:26 PM) 1.I saw the Braves are going to Non-Tender both these guys. They both have surgery before last season. 2.The timetable for Tommy John Surgery Canidates is usually 12-14 months. One could imagine that both would be able to contribute to next seasons roster. 3. I would think they would be worth a flyers on with incentive laden deals. A team could probably give them two year deals. White Sox are in need of right handed starting pitching. At the very least, you could have them come out of the bullpen. 4. Both of them are in the prime of their careers so age is not a factor. The only negative is this is the second Tommy John Surgery for both of them. You wonder if the stuff will still be there. My Question Deal or No Deal? Absolutely. Medlen has 2 years of control and Beachy has 3

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 2, 2014 -> 05:14 PM) They should not not-tender him. He has talent - give him one more year. I also saw that the Brave non-tendered Medlen. I'd check him out. Medlen AND Beachy. Medlen recently turned 29 and Beachy 28. Sign either one of them though they may not be ready til May but still. -
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 2, 2014 -> 12:13 AM) Upton does not seem like the type to sign an extension when he's this close to free agency. This would be a rental or turn into an overpay, IMO. My thoughts exactly. With a huge year and being a free agent at 28, he will get a 6-8 year deal about 25 mill a season
-
Nelson Cruz to Seattle on a 4-year deal. They should just go all in and trade a good package for Alexei
-
QUOTE (glangon @ Dec 1, 2014 -> 09:18 AM) I'd be surprised if we sign Melky as a free agent and give up a draft pick based on our signings and trade attempts so far. Hahn has not willingly given up a draft pick last year or so far this year and that is with protected picks and I'd be shocked to see that this year unless it was for someone like Scherzer. Yeah I feel like if we don't sign him, I have no clue what we will do to try to improve LF. No one on here wants them to spend money and we don't really have the prospects to try to acquire a legit upgrade. We can only hope teams that have guys blocked in the OF (much like Eaton) are willing to move them cheap.

Sox acquire Jeff Samardzija and Michael Ynoa
Bob Sacamano replied to Rooftop Shots's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think it's too early to call Tank at platoon bat (though I think he ends up being one long term). He's going to be 26 when the season starts and just came off a 20 homer season. In a game with rare right-handed power, a team may be willing take a flyer on him (and I would have guessed a deal with Oakland before they signed Butler). Maybe a deal with Cincinnati since they lack a left fielder? Failed starter who may be able to stick in a bullpen for tank? -

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Nov 30, 2014 -> 06:50 PM) I'd like the Sox to get creative in dealing Danks. If we can't get a salary swap for one of the Dodgers OFs, perhaps they could send him to Pittsburgh along with a bunch of cash for Travis Snider. Someone says: but that's too much money to pay to get Snider!! Yes, but Danks money is already spent. Danks + free agent OF costs WAY MORE than Snider/cash to Pirates + Bassit/Rodon Other than that, I'd rather see Sanchez traded than Semien Not a big Snider fan personally
