  1. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 10, 2015 -> 11:50 AM) Matt Eddy ‏@MattEddyBA #WhiteSox sign RH power hitters 3B Andy LaRoche and 1B Chris Jacobs to minors deals, re-sign OF Michael Taylor http://bit.ly/1I8uhBI Could see LaRoche maybe winning a bench job to back up the infield and platoon with Gillaspie if Bonifacio has to play center for a period of time.
  2. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 10, 2015 -> 11:51 AM) Two Garcias, two LaRoches. Actually 3 Garcias. And two Danks.
  3. Campana I feel can win a job with a good spring as the 5th outfielder (Bonifacio as the primary back up/platoon 3B) with another right handed hitting backup infielder) incase Bonifacio has to start some games in the outfield against lefties.
  4. So is he going to wear 64? Would be kinda funny seeing a lineup that has the numbers 53, 64, 77 and 79 in it haha
  5. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Jan 4, 2015 -> 01:06 PM) Wow, we have a very low bar then. No way Ozzie deserves to have a number retired. Average SS, Rowand and Crede had more to do with clubhouse chemistry in 2005 than Guillen, he was just the clubhouse clown. There definitely isn't room for two. Well there is but the spacing wouldn't look right or consistent with the rest so don't worry. Probably not getting retired.
  6. 13 should go back into circulation. Regarding coaches, unless they played for the team they are coaching for and had their number retired by that team, then they should have numbers in the 90s.
  7. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 24, 2014 -> 06:49 AM) platoon at 3b? It's Conor's full time He will have it about 70-80% of the time with righties pitching. They should get someone to hit lefties though.
  8. C: Kottaras or Brantly IF: L. Garcia or Saladino (if him, then he platoons at third) OF: Danks Until: Bonifacio signing (platoon 3B, jack of all trades)
  9. QUOTE (Downtown518 @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 11:38 AM) Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS 7s8 seconds ago Manhattan, NY pirates won bidding for kang On to the next possible platoon/bench player: Bonifacio
  10. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 09:15 PM) A 3rd round pick offers a better chance of success than Melky Cabrera? Yeah third round picks don't usually turn into much. I'd rather see them good now.
  11. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 20, 2014 -> 01:36 PM) So how many teams are officially out so far? I believe it is: Yankees Mets Angels Dodgers Padres Orioles Blue Jays And then you could probably eliminate teams with set infields
  12. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 20, 2014 -> 01:34 PM) If it was the Sox they would've let Nightengale or Levine know already. What if they wanted kept under wraps until a deal was close or some other reason? Nothing really to report until you have a deal i guess
  13. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 20, 2014 -> 01:17 PM) Another domino. Also not the Dodgers according to Dylan Hernandez
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 20, 2014 -> 12:47 PM) Has there even been any speculation of us being interested? He could make some sense for us dependng on the price. No speculation from our organization never means anything.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 2. 2014 -> 12:08 PM) Jays reporter said not Toronto. So from reports we know it isn't SD, Mets, Yankees, Toronto. Still not a good word on who won. Wow 4 teams I predicted to possibly win. I think either us or Oakland could be one of the teams since he can get at bats at second and third.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 01:46 PM) I've been thinking a lot recently about this now that we have basically bought 2 years of competitiveness without sending out much in terms of our key prospects. For 2007-2011, the sox "retooled" instead of rebuild and bought years like this, and we hoped it would bide time for a wave of talent to come in. Unfortunately at that time they had only begun the steps of building a real scout system and emphasis on the draft. But Hahn spent the 2013 offseason sending out our established talent for MLB ready young talent. It's here where I'm worried that we still have a high margin of error and that we are not making up in volume. Below I'm identifying the prospects who in 2015 we can ill afford to fail, and which would provide the biggest benefit if they can turn it around. Here is our 2017 ceteris paribus make-up. Note, I'm pretty much exclusively talking about position players for reasons I get to later. Left blank if no C- 1B - 2B - Micah Johnson SS - Tim Anderson 3B - Matt Davidson RF - Avasail Garcia CF - Adam Eaton LF - Courtney Hawkins Of the acquired talent, we have 1 player in Eaton who we are fairly certain is at least a future starter. We have one other, in Tim Anderson, who is seen as a can't miss prospect with All-Star potential. Then we have the rest. Avisail, to this point, is young and talented. However, he's shown to be a bad defensive outfielder, which puts tremendous pressure on him to be an offensive force. I'm nervous. We have a full season's worth of ABs from him, and they are ... pretty average. He is essentially the next closest thing we have to a close to sure thing for a starter. The next level - Micah Johnson had an unspectacular 2014 but has huge support in our system. A disasterous 2015 from him really hurts the sox ability to provide cost-controlled talent in position players to afford latter year Sale contracts. Courtney Hawkins has bee terrible and then improved but still not good after a great 2013. He will have an age caveat for a few more seasons, however, I can think of no other positional prospect who would provide greater relief if they succeed than him. For me, I'm assuming he continues to flail but am continuing to hold out hope. Matt Davidson - Davidson at this point is pretty much written off. His resurgence would again provide Sox with huge slack for the years after our vets are gone. 3rd baseman are just too hard to find. I remain scared though, that even if his bat arrives, we learn he can't hang at 3b. We have a next level of prospects in May/Rondon/Thompson/Saladino that could explode this year, but have their flaws and are less likely to hit. Behind them are your Adolfo's, Trey's, Fish, etc that are far enough off that we would expect them closer to 2018/2019 and may be such sure thing's at that point these worries will be put to bed. But to me this seems like the crucial year. We thought our young talent would hit in 2016. That's a year away. This is crunch time here, this is where the talent either asserts itself or fizzles away. This year is going to be a ton of fun as sox fans to follow the majors and minors to see where this franchise can go. It will look nothing like that. Impossible to predict how an MLB roster will look in 2-3 years
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 18, 2014 -> 02:06 PM) One stop shopping for who will probably get invites: Pitchers: Carlos Rodon- L Joe Savery- L Zach Phillips- L Brad Penny- R Logan Kensing- R Catchers: George Kottaras Infield: Micah Johnson Juan Diaz Outfield: Tony Campana Tim Anderson? Maybe?
  18. Sign Bonifacio instead and to be on the bench. Sanchez or Johnson can start, but if we are in the middle of a division race and one is struggling, play Bonifacio.
  19. Ok its 2:30 and the encore of the Bulls game is on csn. What gives?
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 12:02 PM) I'd prefer Kodos. Was that joke made yet? I see what you did there
  21. Lets add Bonifacio and one of Medlen and Beachy and another reliever.
  22. QUOTE (almagest @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 01:24 PM) Agreed. Losing Semien could really hurt, especially since we're relatively weak at second base (for now - one of Saladino/Sanchez/Johnson could fill in nicely, but I don't have much faith right now in any of them). If we don't resign Samardzija, I feel like this trade is a definite loss. Of course, this assumes Semien reaches the potential he showed late last year and in the minors. It'd be tough to call it a loss because we would gain a draft pick and it would turn out how he performs throughout his career too
  23. QUOTE (bear_brian @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 09:09 AM) I agree wholeheartedly on Bonifacio. He can even play a little CF, and could be platooned with Gillaspie at 3B against tough left handers. I would also like to see them make a play on Daniel Nava. Boston has to get rid of a couple of their many OF's. Nava is a switch hitter, can play first and OF, could spell Avi, could be platooned with LaRoche, and only makes $1.9M. Bonifacio would be a nice backup leadoff hitter when Eaton gets hurt. Robin loved to bat Danks or Garcia leadoff in his absence.
  24. Assuming we move Tank soon, what does everyone think that the Opening Day Roster will look like? (also assuming no one gets injured during Spring Training). This is what I have: Lineup: Eaton CF Cabrera LF/RF Abreu 1B/DH LaRoche DH/1B Garcia RF/LF Gillaspie 3B Ramirez SS Flowers C Sanchez 2B Bench: Brantly C (Nieto goes to AAA to get at bats) Saladino IF (platoon 3B; I believe someone posted an article on here in a thread that said he would be ready by spring training) Danks OF L. Garcia IF/OF (25th man, pinch runner, can play emergency OF; would love them to sign Bonifacio for this though, and to take at bats away from some lefties Rotation: Sale Shark Quintana Noesi Danks Bullpen: Robertson CL Petricka SU Duke SU (L) Guerra Jennings (L) Putnam Surkamp LR (L) (doesn't hurt to have a third lefty as Robin can't burn through all of them by the 7th inning this way, can also serve as mop-up guy)
  25. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 03:48 PM) You know what has me thinking, t know if its all that important, but I noticed that none of these deals are long enough that could hamper Sale and Quintana's next extensions in 5 years. Maybe besides Samardzija, pending an extension. So I think this is a great off season with moves that help us win now, but not alter the real key pieces of this team. Sale's next extension will probably be north of $25 mill a year. I think if Jerry was going to open his wallet for an arm, it'd be him
