While I do normally agree, since he is coming off of an injury and we're what, 11 games up, I'm ok with it.
I do find it funny when the mid-20s year olds sit one game of a doubleheader (only 14 innings these days) while the older players will play both haha
Do you chalk up some of the passed balls from Zavala due to framing? Trying to get that strike where you need to move the glove quickly and slightly? At least that’s what people said about Yaz beginning of the year.
I think if they don’t start out so hot that season, they don’t take a reliever that high. Wasn’t the thought at that time that he could make an impact later in the year? Of course they faded mid-season so it would have been unnecessary to call him up. And then of course injuries.
Just looked at his numbers and it looks like he’s hit well. I think you’re right that he won’t ever appear in another game with the Sox but I can see him being moved to an NL team to be a DH (if the DH finally comes to the NL) and emergency catch role. Of course I also don’t see any team giving up really anything for him either.
Anyone know how Xavier Fernandez or Carlos Perez is behind the plate? I feel like they have to be better options at this point as a backup. I feel like it will be a 4-way competition between Perez, Fernandez, minor league signing and Zavala (unless he is cut) for the job next year.
Anyone who posted earlier/last week about Vaughn sitting in favor of lefty bench bats down the stretch/in post-season is fair concern. No game yesterday, off 3 days ago and now off today.
