DH Options
If you're not putting that money towards Bauer, you should have enough for both with how many options there are.

DH Options
Along with being a left-handed, high OBP, low K guy, LaStella in his career also isn't a black hole against lefties.

Sox sign Hendriks: 3/$39M - 4th year optional with $15M buyout
Agreed. Oh well.

DH Options
If they add another OF, sure.

Sox sign Hendriks: 3/$39M - 4th year optional with $15M buyout
Agreed. And a backup catcher is what, like $1 mill of that. Plenty of room to add.

Sox sign Hendriks: 3/$39M - 4th year optional with $15M buyout
Right. You can field a pretty good MLB team or 2 with all the guys that are still out there one January 12th.

I guess compared to every other team. You're adding salary in Eaton, Hendriks, and Lynn (I know he was traded for, but you're replacing a guy who would make league minimum with him).

Tommy La Stella Emoji of a Target Discussion
Exactly. Out of any young player/prospect I would be cool with them dealing for another good, controllable arm, he's my preference.

No just some of it.

Tommy La Stella Emoji of a Target Discussion
Question about Tim Beckham and his suspension: say he has a good spring training and you decide you may need him later in the season. Do you put him on the MLB team right away so he can serve the rest of his suspension right away and then someone else just takes his spot during suspension? I guess then when hes ready to come off, you'd probably have to open a spot on MLB roster for him, I guess by optioning Mendick fpr example.

I'm torn as well. If he is the main piece in a deal for a front of the rotation type of arm with 3+ years of control, I probably pull the trigger. Especially since you can just sign LaStella. But I also wouldn't hate keeping Madrigal, signing LaStella for a DH/1B/2B/3B role, giving Moncada some rest at DH once or twice a week, and then signing someone like Paxton, Kluber, Q, Walker for the 4th SP spot.

Sox sign Hendriks: 3/$39M - 4th year optional with $15M buyout
Then go with a lesser option. There's no reason they couldn't sign a cheaper but good option AND a back-end starter still. Someone posted in one of these threads their payroll is at about $120 mill for next season.

Honestly, I would still look into McGee, Bradley, heck even check the price of Colome and Hand (off the top of my head, there could be other good options too). Just make it a huge strength in case you need them to work a lot with question marks in the 4 and 5 spots.

Mendick could back up. So can Leury. If you need someone to start for a long period of time, it would probably be Leury or they call up Beckham, who actually still needs to serve some of his suspension from 2 seasons ago (he wasn't with a team last year).

Mendick can play SS. He would still have a spot on the bench if LaStella was the primary DH filling in at 2B, 3B and 1B.

Sox sign Hendriks: 3/$39M - 4th year optional with $15M buyout
How is the luxury tax hit calculated with every other contract that has an option at the end? We can use that as a reference tomorrow as it's bed time for me unfortunately haha
-
Sox sign Hendriks: 3/$39M - 4th year optional with $15M buyout
Then what would be the hit if they pick up the option? I gotta think it's 54/4.
-
Sox sign Hendriks: 3/$39M - 4th year optional with $15M buyout
For luxury tax, its just a straight 4/54 (so $14 mill AAV a season).
-
Corey Kluber to Yanks per Passan
Honestly, every team should have a guy there. Would be good for a rebuilding team to deal at deadline or with competitor from day 1.

MLB 2020-21 off season catch all
Tell that to all the free agents still out there and teams who haven't done anything yet.

MLB 2020-21 off season catch all
No way. Taking on Moose reduces the cost in prospects/players it would take to trade for Castillo/Gray.

NPB/KBO/Asian Imports Thread
He's got 3 opt-outs so he can keep trying. Maybe in 2022, everything will look normal.

Dodgers sign Bauer (3/102, opt-outs, 40-45-17)
I'll be honest, I can't remember if he actually missed time or if he just didn't pitch well after that. I'll look now. Edit: you're right. That was 2018. I've got nothing for his 2019 season. 2nd Edit: just skimmed his game log for 2019. His worst games appear to have happened against the ALC teams (and the World Series champs Nationals) but I guess that would be common facing the same teams multiple times.

Old: Mega Hendriks Speculation Thread
One of the food accounts is legit (forget which) and the other account and NotSteveCishek clearly go off the legit account and Jimmy's info. Just keep posting it all. This has been a boring off season around the MLB and there's not a lot to talk about. Edit: I can't believe how many teams haven't done anything yet and how many good free agents are still out there "a month away from pitchers and catchers reporting (they won't)".
