Players on the IL come off at the end of the year. We always talk about that here when we go over any possible 40-man roster issues. And you do have a case for sending him to the minors since he hasn't pitched in over a year. Sure he'll have Spring Training, but I'm sure they will want to see him go 6-7 innings somewhat consistently before calling him up.

We need Beef back so Ricky doesn't shy away from putting Collins and McCann in the same lineup every day. Beef currently has more value to this roster than Alonso.

Jay is fine against lefties in his career but yeah, if they wanted all righties it would be easy to take them out.

Yeah if you're going to have a poor hitter in the lineup, you might as well at least improve your defense by having a guy like Eloy DH a game.

I get that Moncada isn't great against lefties but hit him higher to give him a chance to improve. Against the lefty, I'd probably go with Cordell in LF and give Eloy a partial day off as the DH. Anything to get Alonso out. Edit: Yolmer is also solid against lefties so even him at 2B and Rondon at 1B (Abreu DH) or DH would be fine too. Literally anything is better.

This will be second half/late next season. Maybe pitch him in the pen the rest of the year but then have the idea he will start in 2021 as the 5th starter? Maybe they will have someone else knocking on the door in 2021 that can get his innings if he goes on the IL that year.

Agreed. Can never have enough pitcihng. Lopez can start next year in the minors trying to work his way back.
