The Athletic: Must Read article on Jerry Reinsdorf/White Sox
Tony replied to thedoctor's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I 100% believe that there are multiple guys that have totally different career trajectories on other teams. I cite Andrew Vaughn often. I really believe he was just wrecked by the White Sox. -
The article states "Hahn declined to comment on this story." The article also states "Haber did not respond to interview requests." In most cases, when stating "He declined to comment on this story" that implies he was not a part of the story, but was reached out to. In theory you could walk the line and still use him for background, but that starts to get into murky territory when it comes to journalistic integrity.

The Athletic: Must Read article on Jerry Reinsdorf/White Sox

The coach/first class discussion isn’t even about “comfort” It’s about the standard across the league. It’s the same for the analytics department, baseball ops, etc. Everything is done worse on the South Side than it is with 95% of the other teams in the league. Thats the point- 281 replies

The Athletic: Must Read article on Jerry Reinsdorf/White Sox
Tony replied to thedoctor's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I’ve posted this before, but worth repeating given the topic at hand. I was told when the Sox interviewed Joe Espada before the 2023 season, he left the interview telling people “It’s 2023 but they operate like it’s 2003. I have no chance here.” He obviously was right. -

The bad news: Nothing will change until Jerry dies The really bad news: None of us know when that is, and even when he goes, it's going to take a while to clean everything up. We have another decade of this, at least. -
Except on the play Ace posted above, Wright literally never takes his eyes off of 55. It's clear that's his assignment, and his body language says the same thing. It seems like he anticipated 55 cutting in (which never happens) but that was incredibly poor effort/technique/everything. Chris Morgan DOES deserve a very close looking at, especially considering us knowing he was promoted to run game coordinator, somewhat of a strength of the team last year with mostly the same O-Line, and it's been horrific this year...but the play specifically posted really shouldn't relate to coaching, that type of "effort" should NEVER happen, and that falls on the player.

It's true, but it also doesn't remove all guilt from Getz. Part of the job. He may be unqualified, and I can separate two different things. 1. He shouldn't be in this job and Jerry is the one that deserves heat & 2. Getz is still the one making decisions, and we can be upset with those decisions. We can be mad at both. But I agree with the general principle that I don't blame Getz for accepting the job. That's not on him.

It's also old school gate keeping. He doesn't like Barstool. Eddie didn't do anything to Bernstein, and the station he is employed by decided to bring Eddie in to co-host. He decided to act tough (while Eddie was on a remote btw and not in studio) and put him in an uncomfortable spot, for absolutely no reason other than he's an old cranky asshole. I can be a giant prick to people when I think it's deserved, but there is no way anyone can make a coherent argument that Eddie deserved any of that. Just a shitty thing to do, and quite frankly the heat Bernstein is getting is long overdue

Reinsdorf releases statement to say he'll speak more later

Putting out a statement that includes the word “impressed” in any part of it negates everything else said.- 117 replies

Tarik Skubal is most likely going to win it in the American League, who is tied for the MLB league in wins. He will throw over 180 IP this year, and has struck out 208 batters in 174 innings. Chris Sale is most likely going to win it in the National League, who is tied with Skubal in wins at 16. Sale will also most likely reach 180 IP this year, and has struck out 213 batters in 166 innings. The last time a reliever won the Cy Young was 2003. And before Eric Gagne did it, Dennis Eckersley was the last one to do it since 1992. This took me 4 minutes to write, because I have access to the internet. And if you are reading this response, it means you do too.

I don't think he really has an out, I think ignoring it is the right play. He's not going to apologize (just admit he was being a crank and he should have been more embracing to new blood) and I would think he realizes he isn't going to win this battle, especially since he was the one being the douche, Eddie did zero wrong. He could take the route of attacking Barstool and Portnoy for his "rally the troop" efforts but that just puts more gas on the still burning fire. So you ignore it, wait until there is something else for people to turn their attention to, which is usually in about 45 minutes with our culture, so that's probably what I'd advise as well

There have been 27 complete games thrown in 2024, you incredible dolt.

So..,Dan Bernstein had a day lol

We just need to see progress. We need to see things that show he's improving. Last week was an objectively awful performance by Caleb and the offense. I did not think we would see a sub 100 yard throwing performance from him this season, not with the weapons that he has on his side of the ball. I went and looked at a bunch of QB's to give a little bit of context around Caleb's performance. CJ Stroud had one game last year for 91 yards on 10/23 throwing, against one of the best defenses in the league in the Jets. Bryce Young had one game last year where he threw for 94 yards on 11/18 throwing. Tua had two games his rookie year where he didn't crack 100 yards throwing. Kyler didn't have a sub 100 yard game in his rookie season. Jordan Love didn't. Lamar Jackson didn't. Daniel Jones didn't. Trevor Lawrence didn't. Baker didn't. Joe Burrow didn't. Mac Jones didn't. We'll know it when we see it.

And before the “wait and see” crowd comes in to defend their White Knight, there are multiple issues fans should take issue with regarding this specific quote. 1. It’s detached completely from what the owner told fans right around this time last year. Last season was supposed to be the “worst season Jerry had ever been through” and he didn’t want to “waste a year” and believed the core was good enough to see marked improvement from 2023. It was the main reason Getz was brought in, according to the owner. 2. I did a quick search from other beat reporters and it doesn’t look like much was offered up after this quote, doesn’t look like context was missing. Where is the quote about this not being acceptable, we’re incredibly disappointed about what was put on the field, we vow to do better, etc. None of that. Instead, it’s “Welp, these were the cards we were dealt, sorry about that.”

It never ceases to amaze me how bad they are at PR/Media Relations. Just shocking levels of incompetence, but that checks out with the rest of the organization.

I don't think many in Chicago do have bad feelings for Justin. He's a good dude, got a pretty raw deal in Chicago but also just didn't develop the way they needed him to. Best case is Caleb is great, and so is Justin. Everyone wins. Plus, would love to get that 4th this year from Pitt.

The exact quote I bolded in my previous reply said “ Seems like a lot of people in the fandom are just choosing to be miserable.” This is what the “wait and see” crowd can’t seem to grasp from the “other side.” If you want to wait and see with Getz, that’s your choice and no one is asking you to stop that. But when you have a post detailing who Getz has brought in, asked when everyone “got so stupid” and paints fans that are upset with the state of the team as the ones who are in the wrong, I don’t know what the “wait and see” crowd expects to get back as a response? Everyone has a different capacity for what they are willing to take, or in this case, wait for. I’ve reached a point where my confidence level in anything Jerry Reinsdorf owned is at 0.0%. Others can have more faith, and that’s ok too. What I’ll always take issue with, and response accordingly to, is when the “wait and see” crowd is going to take shots at people whose patience has run out. Goes both ways

I'm...happy for you? You can feel anyway you want. So can I, and others. I feel this team is at least 3-4 years from even getting to .500 baseball. Let's say they shock us and become competitive in 3 years. 2022: 81-81 2023: 61-101 2024: One of the 5 worst seasons in MLB history 2025: Almost undoubtably another 100 loss season 2026: ? 2027: Maybe something interesting? Oh, and the rebuild the Sox decided on all the way back in 2016 resulted in 2 playoff wins. At some point, I'd like to enjoy watching my favorite team play somewhat competitive baseball. So you may not care about the win loss record, but others do, at the very least from a holistic standpoint.

You almost had it, but lost everyone here. Choosing to be miserable? In their last 303 games, the Sox are 93-210. But the fans are the ones are in the wrong here. Got it.

Chasing Records — 121 losses, modern MLB record
Tony replied to Paulie4Pres's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That's one of the other crazy things. Say the Sox finish with a 37-125 record, which seems very possible, given their 31 wins right now. The biggest single season swing in wins in the divisional era are the D'Backs, who had 35 more wins in 99 than they did in 98. If the Sox matched that in 2025, they would be 72-90 next year 😂 -
Which is basically chicken or the egg, because with their historically bad farm system development, without spending, will they ever sniff .500? It's why I don't agree with Balta on the "Crochet Formula." He's 25 years old. Noah Schultz and Hagen Smith are probably both on this team in 2026. As I have said before, if Crochet was at all open to signing a 5 year extension, I'd front load the hell out of hit, pay the bulk of it while this team has a very small payroll, and still have Crochet during his 28-30 year old seasons at a below market rate. I understand that this organization doesn't have any offensive hitting depth, and one of the easiest ways to obtain that is by trading Crochet and obtaining 2-3 pieces that can help fill the diamond, but it still is, imo, a very poor use of Garret Crochet as a player. He is what every team dreams of having their 1st round pick develop into. Trading him at 25 is not how you turn into a better franchise.

Coming into 2024 PCA was ranked the No. 18 prospect by BA, No. 16 by MLB.com and No. 20 by Baseball Prospectus. You are very, very wrong on this.
-
Correct. Getz wanting to hire outside the organization doesn't make him a hypocrite. As others have said, he didn't hire himself. While basically no one believes he deserves the role he is in, I'd rather him take the approach he's taking than trying to convince AJ to manage the team, or Willie Harris being on the top of their candidate list simply because he played for the White Sox. This organization is in dire need of new voices.
