Keys to the White Sox future with Paul Janish...
Tony replied to Lip Man 1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think this is totally correct, and he also doesn’t want to do things than the way they are done now. He doesn’t want to meet a bunch of new people, doesn’t want new voices, doesn’t want to change the “fabric” on the White Sox. Frustrating as hell, but I believe that’s the case -
White Sox @ Giants: 8:45 Central Time Start
Tony replied to Chisoxfn's topic in 2024 Season in Review
Just looked at the box score before I fall asleep…Gus Varland will be one hell of a trivia answer in a few years. Have 100% never heard of him and if someone asked me who Gus Varland is in about six months, I wouldn’t be able to answer 😂 -
We all have our vices.

Don't like those at all. The font on the logo looks really cheap.

This has been Robert’s last 30 days, before last night: 92 PA, .135/.163/.213, HR, 3.3% BB, 46.7% K Thats worst player in the league category. With his talent, that’s more than just a “rough patch” or “bad streak” Dude is checked out. Also is dealing with no lineup protection, has been hurt…but this is more than him just being unlucky. A 46.7% k rate?? Yikes

You keep saying this, and it keeps being wrong.

Jake Burger is 28 years old. He'll be well over 30 by the time the Sox are hopefully competitive. But thank you for dragging me into the surreal frontal cortex of your brain
-
It was a stupid trade, but wouldn't have changed the Sox situation. It's a nothing Burger.
-
If this was Nate Davis, I'd have a much bigger concern. Allen has been an absolute pro his entire career, don't think it's a thing...until it becomes a thing.
-
While I am a big advocate of personal responsibility (just in life in general) we've seen too many instances, for far too many years, to think this is just a player problem. How many guys leave here and find new life with different teams? Be it motivation, better lineup protection, better usage, better coaching staff, better analytics staff...If Robert was on a better team, my guess is he becomes a much better player. I've also always contended if Andrew Vaughn was drafted by say, the Brewers, his MLB career would have been much different than it is today.
-
It doesn't make any sense. They gave Maldonado 4.25 million. While I don't know what every executive in the league is making, I assume you could get a pretty good one for that cost. Building out a smart staff is pennies on the dollar compared to your player payroll. But they refuse to do it.
-
Been saying this point for a long time. There isn't any point. History has shown us time and time again Jerry isn't willing to compete or engage on the same playing field as others in his sport. Not only will he not spend on high priced free agents, but he won't invest in qualified front office staff, analytics, scouting, international, etc. No one is asking him to spend like the Dodgers. Most teams don't. But you don't have to do that to be competitive in most seasons. Look at the Brewers, the Guardians, Rays...They understand their payroll limitations and have put resources into player development and have established organizational philosophies that have made them some of the better franchises in the sport. White Sox ownership has no interest in that. So until that changes, nothing will.
-
I certainly don’t anticipate Jerry doing anything that pleases the fan base over the next few years, but doesn’t mean as a fan base we shouldn’t hold them to a higher standard, and when the inevitably don’t meet that standard, we should say as much.
-
You make yourself look really bad with these kind of posts. They're on pace FOR THE WORST RECORD IN MLB HISTORY. The owner said before the season started, he expected better results than 2023, a year in which the Sox finished 61-101. There is no "narrative" There are facts, and I would have thought someone with a medical background like yourself would lean on the side of using historical evidence and data to come to rational conclusions. I guess I was wrong.
-
Sure you can. Why are we OK with them being bad for the next 3-4 years? Fans spend money on the team, the owner doesn't share that same interest. While the end result may still be the same...there is a big difference between going .500 and playing .239 baseball. Jerry got the Sox into this mess. We should absolutely expect more.

Robert strikes me as a guy that if he went to the Dodgers, he’d look like an all-star. He looks like a guy totally checked out

Schriffen says he was aiming at “Sportscasters”
Tony replied to Chick Mercedes's topic in Pale Hose Talk
After watching the clip in question, where Speigal and Parkins discussed how the story came about and how they confirmed the story, I simply don’t believe they just made it up. Parkins has started getting national sports on Fox, he’s not going to run with this story, when his name is on the show, if there isn’t some confirmation behind it. -

This is also accurate. I still wouldn't like him as a broadcaster, but there are plenty of guys I haven't enjoyed listening to before. Replacing a well liked PxP guy is hard enough, doing it during a historically bad season when most of the fan base is fed up with the organization makes it a herculean effort. He hasn't done himself any favors, my advice to him before the season would be to fly under the radar, get your feet under you for a season or two before you really come out of your shell..but he went the other way on that one. Additionally, taking out the whole Score beef...I heard a soundbite from two weeks ago from the Sox broadcast where he was telling Beckham how when they go on the road, the opposing teams broadcasters expect the Sox to come in and just be awful, and by the time the series is over, broadcasters are telling him how surprised they were to see the Sox, how they were in all of these games, they just can't find a way to finish things off. It's comments like that which will get him lambasted, and rightfully so. Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining. You think Sox fans believe that? During a historic losing streak? The point is while this was a very hard assignment, he's made a number of unforced errors that have made him very unlikable. -

If Schiffren is correct, and his statement that the report The Score ran with isn't true, it shouldn't be a difficult interview. He's with the team everyday. If the facts are on his side, there isn't much to debate. But he's made the choice not to engage with them. Fine..his choice. But it just adds another log onto the fire and the discussion will probably continue, especially since Schriffren continues to want to stir the pot from the broadcast booth. -

He doesn't "owe" them anything. It's his choice if he doesn't want to go on those shows. BUT, words have consequences. Schriffen is the one that decided to run with the "for all the haters out there" when the Sox were already 20+ games under .500. It was an ambiguous comment where both stations reached out to him for comment. He declined. Ok...then you're leaving those comments about "all the haters" up for discussion and conjecture, which is exactly what happened. Then things died down. THEN Schriffen decided to jump back in the mud, directly calling out the station, on a White Sox broadcast. The Score should just ignore it? Not discuss it on air? You can't have it both ways. Either ignore each other, or have a discussion. But there isn't a victim here when both parties sling it on their own broadcasts, then won't talk about it with each other. -

Correct. But we've seen multiple times this season, he seems to like to play in the mud. He's in way over his head, but he's not a total idiot. He knew The Score would react to the comments he decided to make on the air, during a White Sox broadcast. He knows it. And he decided to do it anyway. So he is far from the victim here.
