  • Solid move, was gonna be tough to block all the infield prospects without an addition of some kind.

No player worth anything wants to sign with this organization when it’s been in such disarray over the past few seasons. The Sox can only sign players who don’t have a lot of options to play elsewhere

It’s absolutely wild.  The only spot we have multiple prospects at is 2B & 3B and we just blocked them all.  No fucking clue what we are doing here.

Sox are gonna be like the Padres, except instead of shortstops, every position is going to be manned by a second baseman. It is a fine buy-low attempt. I wonder who gets DFA’d to make room? My guess is Scholtens or Amaya, but players they don’t like, e.g. Colas, are suddenly in the picture.

I'm guessing Amaya.

I thought Rojas was a third baseman? If anything, doesn’t this mean Vargas is out as the starting 3b?

Decent WAR last year with a low BA.  I'm assuming he's a good defender?

Couple good years with Arizona in 21 and 22.

The Sox have...quite a few infielders now.

Yeah, majority of his time has been at 3B.  I was just checking that out.  Maybe Vargas moves to 1B with him and Vaughn splitting time there and at DH?

That is my hope. Then let Rojas split time between 3rd/2nd/OF with Ramos/Sosa getting most of the playtime, but Rojas playing 3/4 or so times a week around the diamond.

2 fWAR last year with a negative offensive rating.  Big time positive UZR/150 at 2b, positive Lf/RF numbers, and really negative at SS, 9 runs below average at 3b

Light-hitting 3B. Good glove though.

When does Getz step up to the plate and go after a player who can actually swing the bat and produce on offense?   I’m not against this signing, but it would be nice if F’ing once we signed a player who can flat out rake!!!

That requires money.

Sosa, Vargas and Ramos should be given every opportunity to play before a guy like Rojas. Hopefully it will play out that way

I don't think that has anything to do with it. A good player would gladly take the Sox money if they handed out an actual big contract.

If hr can play SS, fine. Doesn't sound like he can though....so why

It's amazing how many old guys that I have never heard of are signed by this organization.  I guess the fact I barely watch their games any longer keeps me from hearing of these guys.

I love Josh Rojas with all of my heart and I simply won't stand for such slander!

But, you're not wrong.

Rojas played a damn good 3B for the Mariners last season and is equally capable of covering 2B. The bat leaves a lot to be desired though, which is likely why the M's non-tendered him. Odd that he would choose to come to this mess, cuz I can't see Getz giving the 3B job to anyone but suckass Vargas.

That's never stopped the Sox before.  But really he does help on defense in most spots, especially the way the Sox will use him.

For a team in their position, they’re having a really good offseason. Shocked he didn’t sign with a more competitive club. I wonder how he’ll be used.

I wish they would sign a vet started and make a deal for Robert (if their price is met) but I like what they’ve done so far.

My God.  Just let Vargas, Baldwin,  Sosa, Ramos, etc get all the reps available.   I don't understand why they always need to pay for useless veterans to clog play time?

Eat your heart out, Roki
