I think that would be more than fair. I imagine everyone just wants an answer. Being in limbo creates anxiety.

I’m in no way an insider or source, nor will I pretend to be. But I worked with a current GM (unrelated to any Sox stuff or relevant negotiations) that wheeled a mega trade minutes before walking down the aisle to get married. I don’t think the higher ups really take time off.

I think JD was different for the reasons I stated above. He came into spring with a totally different swing that year and they simply overlooked it. Detroit jumped on him and he tore up AAA and didn’t stop once they called him up. He didn’t “figure it out” somewhere else. He figured it out while they still had him, and they still released him. Hindsight is 20/20 and they’ve done a great job overall, but that was a real mistake on their part to not notice and/or believe in the changes he made.

Releasing JD Martinez was a mistake. I believe he tore up spring training that year, but I guess they didnt buy into his swing changes and they released him before the season started. We all know how that worked out.
