  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 21, 2015 -> 05:21 PM) 7 goals on Shakhtar and now 6 on Porto at home. It seems like they just play better at home. Or they can turn it up whenever they want to ... without Ribery, Robben, and Schweini.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 21, 2015 -> 11:22 AM) I know there are many that disagree with me on here, but there's really no excuse for the Cubs to not be one of the 5 best teams in baseball for the next decade. They've made some incredible trades the past few years (Samardzija and Feldman deals) while also leaving themselves a lot of payroll flexibility going forward. I'm still not sure why they didn't go after Scherzer instead of Lester though, but I'm happy they did. Who knows but Scherzer is an extra year and an extra $55 mill.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 21, 2015 -> 11:17 AM) I am honestly surprised a deal with the Yankees wasn't done in the off season. It just made sense for both teams. The Yankees have little to offer that would help the Cubs at either the major or minor league level. Possibly some mid or lower level minor league talent, but maybe not better than what they already have.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 20, 2015 -> 06:51 PM) How did they pick Pedro Martinez over, say, Randy Johnson or Greg Maddux? Just weird. And why are they inserting Bonds into the discussion? (Assuming they mean Barry and not Bobby). How could anyone not vote either Mays or Aaron there? If it was "most impactful/disruptive" leadoff hitter, then sure, Rickey Henderson, okay. Probably because Pedro was better.
  5. QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 20, 2015 -> 08:48 PM) imo, they should have done it last yr, when Maddon was avail. Maddon became available when the VP of Tampa's baseball ops quit. Maddon had a clause that if that guy left, he could opt out of his contract.
  6. Amazin ! Hard hits, soft hits, walk, wild pitch. Whatever it takes. About time.
  7. @scottmerkin · 12m 12 minutes ago And when I said Hahn wasn't a vote of confidence, it's because it wasn't needed. He is 100 percent behind the job being done by Ventura @scottmerkin · 33m 33 minutes ago Hahn: "I don’t think anyone could reasonably expect any pitcher a year out of college to make 32 starts and average six innings a start. "
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 19, 2015 -> 04:36 PM) Well if Q is done like I have been reading in the gamethread based on his numbers after 3 starts, Theo has a lot of explaining to do about Lester's contract. Being from New England, I've seen Lester pitch maybe 150 times. He had many dominant games and he had many average and bad games. Overall he was a good pitcher, but certainly not a great one. I could never understand what was so insulting about Boston's initial offer of 4 years for $70 million. He was never in the class of Kershaw, Sale, Wainwright, or King Felix of today, or Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson, or Schilling of a short time ago. He came along at a time of a limited number of quality free agent pitchers and inflated contracts and lucked out by John Henry trying to drive his price up as pay back to Theo. Time will tell if I have a clue or if the professional analysts are who thought he was such a stud.
  9. Plato and Aristotle couldn't have said it better.
  10. QUOTE (shysocks @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 01:22 PM) It's not about the PR, it has something to do with the players' union having cause for legal action. A GM will never be honest about that. How can the players' union have legal recourse against application of a rule they agreed to? Epstein has no obligation to state his reasons for public consumption.
  11. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 02:05 PM) So I watched my recording of the game yesterday, and I must admit, CSN's cameras really did not show it very well. Their cameras suck compared to the ones that the Tigers were using. In the DET feed, you can easily see the tag as the video slows down clearly. CSN's video was blurry. So I'm guessing that the Sox guys who felt he was never tagged must have been getting that from the CSN feed. Even Hawk and Stoney said he missed the tag because they are watching the CSN feed. I always thought both teams used the same cameras for a non-national game, but the producers for each broadcast chose the shots. Apparently I have no clue about how it works.
  12. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 01:00 PM) Any chance ventura gets fired if they get swept in detroit? That would pretty brutal especially when you specifically line up your top 3 starters for the series. If he was coaching a European soccer team, it would happen. Since it's the Sox, don't take away his reserved parking space for awhile.
  13. I suspect ARod had to pee in a cup after his latest 477 foot HR. Had to be the longest HR ever by a 40 year old.
  14. Collins Appling Thomas Jackson Too bad there isn't a place for Chico Escuela Carrasquel. Baseball been berry berry good to heem.
  15. QUOTE (venom4789 @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 11:35 PM) Jumping in late on the conversation since i worked all day, but what did robin say on why he didnt challenge it, couldnt he see alexi saying he tagged him. I maybe mistaken but we lose nothing by challenging that play right. He said the ump didn't give him a "maybe" as to whether he could have missed it so he turned around and schlumphed back to the dugout ... before he came out of the dugout a second time at which time it was too late.
  16. Tiger fans are shocked that Ventura did nothing. From the Tigers message board: So even if Ventura thought there was a chance he might lose the challenge, if there was another close call, the ump probably would allow a second challenge. Absolutely amazing.
  17. One word for Ventura ... FRIGHTENING !!
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 16, 2015 -> 08:43 PM) The asking price for Cole Hamels is going down by the minute. The bid price is going down. Amaro is probably not changing his ask price which is actually kind of funny from a non-Philly fan perspective.
  19. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 10:42 AM) I don't know (or care much) who the manager SHOULD be, but I do know that I don't want anyone that has had ANYTHING to do with the unmitigated disaster that has been the Diamondbacks over the past several years. I don't think unmitigated is a strong enough word, actually.
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 10:31 AM) Fri- Samardzija vs Price Sat- Sale vs Sanchez Sun TBA vs Greene The Big Arm?
  21. I saw him scratch his ear. I winder if he's distracted and not concentrating enough ... or maybe it's like the Carol Burnett signal to her mother.
  22. QUOTE (Cochise @ Apr 16, 2015 -> 10:42 AM) A long time ago, someone used to post a Jpeg file of the month's schedule in various sizes to be used as a desktop wallpaper. Does anyone still do that? Thanks! Just go to your favorite baseball site, e.g. ESPN, MLB, etc and take a screen shot of their calendar schedule. For example April and May from a couple different sites. April times are Central, May are Eastern.
  23. Hopefully he's imparting how to get better leads and better jumps while being smart about it.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 02:38 PM) Well not throwing the ball into LF as happened today would help. At least it wasn't straight away left.
