“Indians”?

Except its not that simple. This isnt something being directed at an individual but towards a group of people. Many of which, if not the majority, feel honored and proud of sports teams using their imagery. This isnt some universal, all native americans are offended by the cleveland name. By changing the name you appease one group of natives while the other group loses something they took pride in. Why is one groups opinions more important than the other? And remember, both those studies were about the redskins name - which definitely has a racial component to it. “Indians” is innocuous. Its the equivalent to vikings, or irish.

The poster i responded to alleged that whites, but not other races, have been committing atrocites since the beginning of mankind. Do you agree with that statement? The poster then used that argument, and my race, in an attempt to dismiss my opinions as if they were less valid than his. I think i might be offended if i cared what ray thought, but now i just find it funny how dumb he is.

This is some pretty poor projection on both of your parts. Voicing a disagreement isnt the same as claiming im offended by something.

Big difference between being polite and well mannered and walking on eggshells to avoid any form of offense. if theres no intent to offend, than the offended party should stfu and get over it. This goes for pretty much everything in life.

Sounds pretty racist to say whites have been committing atrocities for the duration of mankind. Do you think other races havent? Do you know where the origin of the word slave comes from? Have you studied any of the atrocities committed in asia or africa that had nothing to do with whites? My study? Didnt realize i am now the washington post. i dont want to offend anyone. I just dont give af if i inadvertently do so. And i think people in general need to stop purposefully looking for things to be offended by - because thats exactly what this has become. And by giving in to those types of peoples demands, it encourages others to dig through society for things to become outraged by. It creates a culture of victimhood.

Should Minnesota be forced to change the name of their football team that portrays nordic people of the past as warrior driven vikings, when in reality many were peaceful farmers? How is that portrayal of a people any different than portraying Indians as great warriors? Do you think cleveland picked that name to demean natives? I dont care what hypersensitive, constantly offended people say or think. I cant imagine living life constantly worrying about that. Seems like an awful life. You act like all native americans are offended by the name, but even with the more offensive redskins name at most half were.

Thats exactly what youre doing also. Rather than acknowledging one studies results you just bring up another without any context or explanation. Just heres another study that contradicts yours. It comes off as you being dismissive of the study you dont like.

Named after the first owners ww1 regiment that was named after chief black hawk. not sure what quality of education you received but i learned about the trail of tears, indian wars, and how they were ravaged by exposure to diseases they had no immunity to when i was in school.

What they're really mad about is the teams making any sort of profit and not giving it to them. Young people unfortunately are morons and I say that as a millennial. They'll push to get teams to change their names, the teams will still make the same if not greater profit, and the only outcome will be native culture completely separating and being forgotten by larger American culture. Being a fan of the Blackhawks and Illini, that fandom introduced me to the history of indians in the midwest, that frankly without being a fan of those teams I would otherwise know nothing about. By separating native american culture from mainstream American culture, the only inevitable outcome is it being forgotten.

It's like the episode of community where they try to pick a mascot that doesn't offend anyone and they go with the Greendale Human Beings. People must be absolutely braindead to think that a team picks a mascot to ridicule or demean what's represented by the mascot.

This “im mad about the process” argument is quite possibly the dumbest one out there. Reminds me of government workers that congratulate others on their process implementation even when the results achieved are average or worse. Process oriented people, generally, are failures. Defensive WAR metrics are still a major work in progress. Combined that with small sample sizes and IMO you can throw out any defensive WAR component for eaton. His outfield jump and sprint speed is still well above league average per statcast.
