Machado signs with Padres 10/300
You're right, they probably shouldn't have reacted so quickly. However, they were not even supposed to be in this conversation this offseason in the first place, this early in the rebuild, by ALL counts. I think we can use this as a tool to see that they are SERIOUS about getting high impact guys. Yeah, maybe they should've done this or that. Hopefully they use this conversion failure as a lesson on how to act on future negotiations with these types of players.

Goodbye Soxtalk
Hey man, it's all good. There is no real way of knowing what exactly they offered, but hopefully this can be used as a tool for what to expect with future potential acquisitions.

Goodbye Soxtalk
I think the reason all of us are here is because the White Sox hold a special place in our hearts because of the memories they have provided. They have been an integral part to all of us. Still doesn't change the fact that this is just a game and there are so many other important things in life, and other things to get excited about. The team wasn't even supposed to be in the running for these guys a year ago...that thought was ludicrous. Now that they got so close to getting one and didn't doesn't change anything. Hahn said it himself...we might not convert on these guys. We didn't this time. Doesn't mean we won't in the future.

Machado signs with Padres 10/300
Can we please close this thread now? It's becoming quite the cess-pool for White Sox hatred. Yes, I know, why read then right? I am done reading, but it is very disappointing seeing how easily disgruntled and negative my fellow fans have become. Why make comments that suggest you want JR to die so the team can be sold and get new management? Like really? He is a real person, and this is a game.

Goodbye Soxtalk
I think it's time to remember this is a game and real life is separate from it...or at least it should be.

It's done and over with. Nothing can be done about it now. Yeah, it sucks, but you know what, if the whole incentive deal is true, my guess is he would rather have played with San Diego than come to Chicago. Why would he have any reason to believe that he is not capable of doing anything the White Sox might have asked of him to EARN. Like, what if he gets hurt for 2 full seasons or something? Boom, 60 million dollars wasted. I know, what-ifs are what-ifs. But there is a serious consideration here...the Sox were burned by this not too long ago with Danks (I know, it's different because he's a pitcher, more risk). He was considered to be a future all-star and ace of the staff for years. What a waste of a contract that was. Just because they didn't land this giant fish does not mean they won't land one next year or the year after. This front office went into rebuild mode for a reason: to build sustainable long-term future success. They are not intentionally trying to screw over this team or this fan-base. We will be fine without Machado. Hopefully this negotiating process can serve as a lesson learned for them when they are in the thick of it with the next free agent, whether that be Harper (who I honestly don't really want), Trout (lol), or whoever it may be. Hahn said himself, they will be at the negotiating table, and whether or not they convert on these targets remains to be seen. Did anyone last offseason really think the Sox would come THIS close to getting one of these prime free agents? Machado was not promised. It sure was a great narrative created by the media and aided by the Sox in acquiring Jay and Alonso, with an un-happy ending, but none of this was promised. We will get ours. Might not be until 2019 offseason or 2020, but we will get ours. Just a matter of some more patience.

If Manny Machado signs this needs to be the first question asked at the press conference: "WTF took so long?"

Morrisey - If MLB isn’t careful, it will die by its own boring
I was born in 94. I started watching baseball when I was 10 years old (2004), which is the same year I started little league. I decided to watch the White Sox the next year, and obviously they won the World Series. That hooked me. Maybe it was the magic of the team winning that year that got me hooked, with the fantasy of being able to really experience it one day? I am not sure, but I do watch it religiously during the summer months and cannot wait to experience that same magic of 2005 and 2006, especially when the Cubs were good too. It was great to be a fan of the better team in the city. Maybe if the Sox never won it that year, I wouldn't care as much as an adult? I'm not really sure how to explain it. I definitely connect more with baseball than I do any other sport. Football is probably a good second, but I wouldn't say it's really close. I lost interest in the sport when I moved to Wisconsin, as I couldn't get the Sox on TV and they weren't really good during those years (2009-2011). When I went to college out of state I was able to purchase mlb.tv and those were the years the Sox were supposed to be good as they won the offseasons (2013-2016). Now I'm hooked on the fantasy of what this rebuild is supposedly promising us. If it doesn't work, then who knows? As for now, I still love the sport, specifically the Sox, love teaching my wife about it and her experiencing the game for the first time just like I did when I was a kid, and visiting every park in the country fascinates me. The game most definitely will not die. Too many people have stories like mine about why they love the game. These slow offseasons won't break anything.

Machado signs with Padres 10/300
This is both interesting and funny. So he's saying it like Machado is in fact coming, and he also said he THINKS he would help our team get better....hmmmmmm yeah I think Machado would help us get better Adam!

Give me a break. Let's go back 50 years. In 1970, the average salary for a player was around 29000 dollars according to Forbes, and the average Amercan salary was around 10 grand. Today, the average is around 45000 for the average American, if you meet in the middle with men and women, and the average for a baseball player is in the 3 MILLION. I don't care what they b**** about, they're all millionaires. I understand they work their asses off and only play for 10-15 seasons on average, but that's still way more money than anyone of us will ever make, collectively!! Look how much more theyve won in their collective bargaining in the last 50 years. Like how can you b**** about making millions of dollars????

Farmer and DJ back on radio for 2019
I love listening to these guys. Brings me back to my childhood. I started watching Sox games with Hawk and DJ in the booth. I think Ed and DJ compliment each other very well and I hope they both stay on for a while longer.

Nice analysis there. If Machado does end up making our dreams come true, this is going to shock all of baseball nation, and totally changes the dynamic of this team in so many different ways, all positively.

Sox could still bring back Avi
I would be completely fine with a platoon of Palka and Avi for a year. Hit Palka vs righties (gives him plenty of chances to prove that he is the real deal with the vast majority of starters being right handed) and Avi can hit against lefties, which is good because he mashes lefties and he can't sustain a full season anyway, so the limited workload he would see would probably be beneficial for him.

Machado: Update - Manny, do you officially like us?
Well, a lot of people here think he will sign in the next week or 2, so I guess we will find out soon if this is true. Fingers crossed.

Machado: Update - Manny, do you officially like us?
We don't deserve anything. We are fans following a team. We CHOOSE to give them our support. We don't work for them. They don't owe us anything.
