QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 29, 2013 -> 12:46 PM) Yes, but if he becomes an elite hitter in the first three years, his cost for the last 3 years will be much higher. I hope he opts out and gets 20 million a year in arbitration!

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 10:44 AM) Sticking up for you team at any cost is one thing. Getting indigant at a player about admiring a homerun is pointless. It may be pointless, but it made me like him more. Then again I am old school. I remember Fisk having the discussion with Dion Sanders.

I would be hesitant to put so much money in a catcher that would be expected to play a huge role in the offense. Catchers get banged up, fatigued, and get more days off than other position players. Does he eventually move to first with Abreu the future DH. I like him and would be happy if the Sox got him, but it's risky.

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 12:43 AM) Well Rock said the FO was talking to the agency so wouldn't it have have to be a FA? You have a great point. Phillips would add a reliable veteran to the middle of the infield. He should hit at least 20 homeruns at The Cell, with some speed and gold glove D. Would agents be involved in waiving 5/10 rights to approve a trade?

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 12:20 AM) Where did you hear the Reds are shopping Phillips? I saw he was a client. I googled him to see his stats from last year. I found a trade speculation article on him. Brandon Phillips trade speculation Maybe they want Beckham. MAYBE they will take Dunn back!

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 12:08 AM) ACES Agency John Buck Marlon Byrd David DeJesus Raul Ibanez Matt Joyce (not a FA) Mike Morse Wonder if the agents would be involved if the Sox were negotiating a trade for one of the players they represent. Brandon Phillips is reportedly being shopped by the Reds. David Wright?

WOW! Fundementals Deck Power! FDP!

So if Garcia starts toinght instead of waiting until Sept 1st, how does that affect his arbitration clock? Does that make this year count? That sucks for 20 days of baseball. Do I have this right?

8/9/13 Sox v. Twins Day/Night DH

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 01:39 PM) Garcia en route, and will start Game 2 tonight, according to Hahn. This thread will get a lot more attention because of this. The Garcia era begins tonight. Hope he doesn't suck. -
QUOTE (chunk23 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 01:10 PM) Trade could still be for Leury Garcia, he's on the 40 man roster. That would blow. It has to be him. He just can't be anounced since he has to pass through waivers. Heyman let the cat out of the bag. I think there is more to this than just a money dump. I think the Sox are looking for a change in the club house. By that, I mean they will go young with players that display a better attitude and are more focused. I expect Dunn, De Aza, and Ramirez gone before next April.

Who would the Sox be able to sign for next year at 12.5 million that would produce like Rios? Don't give him away to save money.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:25 PM) Doug Padilla @ESPNChiSox 18m Rios on not being moved at deadline: "I'm cool staying here. I like this place." I am cool with Rios staying. I am not cool with Rios, Ramirez, Dunn, and Lindstrom staying. I wanted different baseball players on my beloved Sox. Two of those four needed to go.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:32 PM) Daryl Van Schouwen @CST_soxvan 2m All quiet on #whitesox front with 30 minutes to deadline. Wow this blows! I am so disappointed. The only thing I have had to look forward to with this team is change and new faces. Now it is looking like it will be the same old stuff. Time for football. Unbelievable.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 01:49 PM) And yet they've already squandered 2 chances at a playoff birth by not making deadline moves and then falling apart in the 2nd half. MLB tends to not be kind to teams that just assume they'll be even more competitive next year. I was kind of hoping for a big trade with the Pirates. Sox send them Rios, Ramirez, and a lot of cash. Pirates send back several high prospects kick starting the rebuild. I would root for the Pirate the rest of the way.

Well only time left for one more deal now. Hard to finalize two deals in less than an hour and a half. Rios and Dunn would pass though waivers.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 01:31 PM) And when was the comment made? Last night when he addressed the Peavy deal? This morning at 8 AM? 10 minutes ago? Wait until 3:30 and we can figure out what moves were made. I hope he can make a few more deals. There are still several Sox players that I don't want to watch play anymore. Yesterday they traded a guy I did like.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 01:24 PM) Doug Padilla @ESPNChiSox 55s Time running out to move Alex Rios. Last comment from Rick Hahn: "There is no urgency to make additional deals." This what he should say if he is playing chicken with another GM

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 08:15 AM) The more I think about it, the less I want Tank at 1B. Either keep him out in LF or make him the permanent DH for this team moving forward. He was horrible at 3b (which I know is the hardest infield position to play), but I have a feeling he will be just as bad as Miguel Cabrera over there. Let him continue to improve out in LF for now. At least we know he has a terrific arm and is very capable of throwing guys out. Here is my hope for today and the future! Do whatever it takes to trade Rios and cash for Hansen (Pittsburgh). Trade Alexei today or this winter for some pitching. Having a team looking like this next year wouldn't be bad: RF- A. Garcia CF- De Aza LF- Viciedo 3B- Gillepsie SS- Hanson 2B- Beckham 1B- Dunn C- Phegley DH- FA Signing I really hope they move Dunn. Something about this team just seems broken since he arrived. I'm sure he is a good guy and may not the cause of the crapification of the Sox. I just don't want to watch him play any more. Many people like tequila. I hate tequila because it has made me very sick to my stomach one too many times. Just the smell of tequila repulses me. Dunn is like tequila to me. I Would be thrilled to see Kendry Morales or a prospect like Adams from St. Louis there next year.

I really had fun rooting for and watching Jake. I still will root for him. He is the kind of guy you want on the Sox. I hated that the Sox had played themselves into a position to trade him. I want more trades to get rid of the guys that played so poorly that the Sox had to trade Peavy. Good luck Jake. You deserve a standing ovation when you return to Chicago. Thank you.

QUOTE (elwood5892 @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 12:23 PM) Hi guys. Long time lurker. Thought this was interesting. @DanHayesCSN: #WhiteSox source has Oakland #Athletics in front of Jake Peavy sweepstakes. Peavy brought extra bags on trip in case, per @JJStankevitz. Welcome!! Thanks for sharing some interesing info! I would rather Jakemeister go to NL

QUOTE (mike65 @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 08:45 AM) There probably won't be any trades today out of deference to the Hall of Fame inductions although I don't see why. As a Cardinal fan, I am hoping that Peavy goes to STL but I still think it will be Boston or STL but nobody knows for sure. Knobler tweeted yesterday that the Cardinals getting Ramirez is "unlikely". That is disappointing but there is still Peavy. I remain hopeful. As a Sox fan, I really hate to see Peavy go. The guy is a competitor. I think he has had a good effect on the rest of the staff. But, if he has to be traded to improve the Sox going forward, I would like him to go to the Cardinals. If the White Sox did not exist, I would probably root for the Cardinals.

This fake interest by Baltimore is a direct response to the fake availability of Samardzija. Come on Red Sox! If you want Jake F****** Peavy, you are going to give up a lot. I love watching Jake pitch. The guy is a bulldog! He gets so fired up, sometimes he just can't help himself and he says GOSH BLESSIT!!, GOSH BLESSIT!!! Pay BIG Boston, or let me continue to watch the Jakemeister in a good guy uniform. Stand firm Mr. Hahn!
