2016-2017 Off-season Plans (extensive)
QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 12:16 AM) To be fair, his plan was for a rebuild. He only signed those players to field a competitive team (a motive I disagree with) and to possibly flip them in July for prospects (which I absolutely agree with). He wasn't adding those players to make a playoff run. Well we save $18 mill alone from Turner/Rollins/Albers/Garcia/Avila/Latos/Navarro. Guys who were hot garbage. Maybe you bring Avila back at like $1-2 mill. $10 mill in mostly dead money from Austin Jackson/Duke. And $16 mill in dead money from Danks. That's $44 mill saved. 2017 Roster Moves: Shields (replaces Danks) at $12 mill Tilson (replaces Austin Jackson) at Chapman (replaces Duke) at $15 mill Turner/Latos replaced with Fulmer at Avila retained/replaced with FA catcher at ~1-3 mill Navarro replaced with Narvaez at Rollins replaced with Anderson at Garcia replaced with Cespedes at 25 mil Albers replaced with Ynoa/Kahnle at The replacements would cost around $57 mill. That's only bumping up the payroll $12-13 mill outside of contractual raises to make two elite signings while putting faith in some of your existing players. Overall the payroll would probably have to increase by $25 mill to make it happen.

2016-2017 Off-season Plans (extensive)
QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 11:59 PM) People think they are going to sign a closer when they already have highest paid one? Come on I think if they are going to spend you need elite talent rather than shuffle the deck chairs with more 3rd tier signings. Have faith in some of your existing players like Narvaez and Saladino to handle a bigger role and players like Shields to rebound (although I doubt that one, but they did trade for him when no one else wanted him).

2016-2017 Off-season Plans (extensive)
QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 11:56 PM) Which plan are you referring to? And adding $40-45 isn't even close to realistic. You can add one of those guys, although I don't know why you would want to add Chapman when Kenley Jansen is just as good, but likable, as far as I know. The above plan which had Castro, Valbuena, Nova, Gomez, etc. That adds about $30 mill to this years commitment. They would only have to go an additional $10 mill beyond that to get Cespedes and Chapman. Saladino or Lawrie would be as good if not better than Valbuena at DH and I think Narvaez could do ok as a starter. He has the plate discipline to develop into a high OBP low power catcher which is fine because we'd have plenty of power at other positions.

2016-2017 Off-season Plans (extensive)
I'd rather get 2 elite players (Chapman and Cespedes) for $40-45 mill (with an extra $10-15 mill spent) than cover another hole or 2 with lesser players. We are better off taking the chance on a few guys taking the next step like Narvaez improving or Shields rebounding than tie up money with a few extra 3rd tier signings. Figure around $15-20 mill for Chapman and $25 mill for Cespedes. That gives us the best chance to build an elite lineup and pitching staff that can win a world series.

Potential + Effects of the World Series?
QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 11:36 PM) And a catcher, and a center fielder, and another starting pitcher. The Indians just went down to Game 7 without a catcher and an entire outfield of stiffs. The pitcher could be a problem but we would only need to get 1 game out of a Gonzalez/Shields/emerging prospect in a hypothetical World Series scenario. Cespedes would be your CF. Tilson 4th OF, Saladino super sub/DH and we could see if we can bring back Morneau on the cheap and sign a platoon catcher to pair with Narvaez and push Collins quick if he shows signs of success.

Potential + Effects of the World Series?
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 11:29 PM) Option A: Sign Cespedes, acquire a dominant reliever, enjoy payoff Option B: SELL Pretty much where I'm at. They'd have to get Chapman and Cespedes/Encarnacion for us to have a shot at a World Series run. And we need Renteria to be better than what we got out of Ventura. They are going to have to be willing to spend $40-45 mill/yr above current payroll. If we could make the playoffs I like our chances to surprise some teams.

World Series: Indians vs. Cubs
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 12:21 AM) I can't wait to have them half ass it again this offseason and leave a bunch of holes on the roster but claim they are "going for it." The roster the Indians took to the World Series is worse than ours. I know they have multiple key players injured but they still got there. Sale/Q/Rodon is miles ahead of what they sent out there. Just imagine pitching Sale 3 times and Q 2 times in a 7 game series. How can you possibly lose that series? I have no problem with them going for it but we need a bullpen stopper like Chapman/Miller and another big time bat (Cespedes, Encarnacion, etc.). I like our chances to be a surprise team if we can get that.

Potential + Effects of the World Series?
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 12:09 AM) That's everyone's hope but it's not happening and part of the reason as I saw elsewhere is capital gains taxes unless the original owner passed away. Mark The heirs would effectively pay capital gains and an estate tax either way I think.

World Series: Indians vs. Cubs
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 11:04 PM) rebuild, the cubs will bury the sox for years so it's a perfect time to phoenix this s***. I'm ready for the Las Vegas White Sox. Would be sweet to go to some more games.

World Series: Indians vs. Cubs
And on another note - boy I bet Cleveland is pissed that Lucroy turned down the trade with his no trade clause. That probably would've been the difference for them.

World Series: Indians vs. Cubs
Well does this force JR/KW into a rebuild or going for it mode? I'm really undecided now. I'm thinking they might panic about losing more of the fanbase and go for it again.

World Series: Indians vs. Cubs
Damn they choked so bad though. 3-1 lead and can't close it out wow. Don't think I could ever live that one down if i was a fan of their team.

World Series: Indians vs. Cubs
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 10:50 PM) You don't understand. There's nothing they could've done to win. The Cubs wanted it more. Nah the game was very winnable. The Indians beat themselves with so many miscues I can't even count. I don't ever remember the 2005 White Sox playing so poorly in the postseason. But that's understandable given their talent deficient lineup. The Cubs "earned it" but against a better AL opponent they lose this series no doubt. But good for them. The poor showing in the bottom of the 9th and the rain delay killed their momentum.

World Series: Indians vs. Cubs
QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 10:48 PM) That was a hanging curve... Lol and a weak ground ball. Maybe they should've tried to steal and just have him try to poke a hit into the outfield.

World Series: Indians vs. Cubs
QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 10:33 PM) Looks like they should have gone to Bauer earlier. I'm confused why he was left in after Schwarber rips one and Bryant nearly homers.

World Series: Indians vs. Cubs
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 10:29 PM) Its amazing Chapman pitched better after giving up the HR than Allen and Shaw. Indians continually look like they want to make it close......but then wet themselves He didn't pitch that well. Kipnis had the best approach but the other AB's were bad. The best approach to take as a hitter there is to work the count and keep fouling off pitches until he hangs a slider. He was throwing a lot of them.

World Series: Indians vs. Cubs
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 10:27 PM) Shaw looked bad in 9th. How do you keep him in that long in 10th when you have Otero? Kind of ridiculous to keep him in after the intentional walk.

World Series: Indians vs. Cubs
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 10:26 PM) He took an average team and brought them to the World Series. The Indians line up is worse then ours, their starters are worse then ours. Another case of a manager getting way too much credit when a team gets hot and too much criticism when a team underperforms.

World Series: Indians vs. Cubs
Francona has been awful at managing this series. No idea why he was getting praised around here so much.

World Series: Indians vs. Cubs

QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 09:33 PM) Coughlan's slide is illegal. Obviously, but has a single call gone against the Cubs the entire playoffs?

World Series: Indians vs. Cubs
Guyer = the Indians Saladino. They never play him this series for some reason.
