  1. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Aug 30, 2016 -> 09:12 PM) Maybe something like this? Baiting is ok, but not retaliating. Got it
  2. QUOTE (credezcrew24 @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 02:55 PM) The White Sox wouldn't be able to dump Avi's salary on any team in exchange for nothing. He literally has negative value. He's going to be non-tendered in the offseason. An inclusion of Avi in any trade means the Sox have to add more to the deal. Well see, the Dodgers are paying Puig to rot in the minors it's like the Shields deal all over again. It's a pure salary dump for the Dodgers with Puig like it was for Shields. There's no way we should give up more than someone like Avi for Puig.
  3. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 28, 2016 -> 10:45 PM) Yep. He was terrible last year and not just offensively. I'd rather not wait till his value drops again. Now I will say this, deal him in the offseason, not now. There's no point in doing that unless Sale or Q are being traded and we are starting a long rebuild.
  4. I'd take Puig if they eat some of his contract. We could sign Cespedes and get the 3 Cubans together. I wonder if Puig would become less of a negative distraction in this scenario. Give them Avi Garcia for Puig with them eating some of Puig's contract.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 10:05 PM) 120 pitches obviously isn't something they're going to allow him to do every time. But every once in a while when the stress innings are low, it shouldn't be a big deal. I don't see the point in risking extra strain on the arm for a guy with a violent delivery when we are not even in the race late in the season. Robin has been doing it a lot with Rodon lately too.
  6. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 03:51 PM) That may be a clue as to if they are "going for it" in 2017. I thought that was the reason he was drafted originally? He was supposed to be a late season addition to the team while we were making a playoff push a la Jenks. Because there is no reason to draft a relief pitcher high if you are committing to a rebuild. We actually will have a ton of relief arms with some major league experience in play for next season although none have proven to be dominant. Maybe Burdi gets a look at closing not sure Robertson's arm is durable enough to handle it going forward.
  7. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 06:47 PM) He's 25 in AA. Let's not get carried away. He does throw left handed however so he may stick around. Middle relief depth in the minors for upcoming couple seasons. Nothing more.
  8. Glad to see we are finally getting clutch hits after the team is more or less mathematically eliminated.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 04:44 AM) It has to happen next July....because of Frazier, Cabrera, Lawrie and probably the best remaining opportunity to get Robertson off the books. Frazier could come back on a team friendly deal he's expressed interest in staying even if the team won't contend. Melky probably isn't going to get much more than a year or two at this stage of his career he can be brought back. I feel if anyone goes it will be Lawrie. Considering he's still relatively young some team will overpay for his potential.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 06:47 PM) It's an obvious bit of word play. You're right on the description, but it's literally changing one letter. People are going to be dropping that phrase as an obvious negative commentary throughout this agreement. We will be seeing that in game threads in 2025. Hell, I bet you could search the phrase on twitter right now and find hundreds of posts from today that came up with that. Exactly what I said to the mods. You're going to be dealing with this for the next 13 years so have fun! Doesn't help when the optics of the south side to outsiders are reinforced by that name.
  11. QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Aug 23, 2016 -> 07:40 PM) Realistically if the Sox do the rebuild thing and deal Q/Sale in the offseason for an infusion of young talent, Shields could be in the 2017 rotation. At the very least he can eat innings, he can be the Sox version of Edwin Jackson when he was on the Cubs during their rebuild. A rebuild should have started years ago but at this point I feel the team will hold onto the best assets and try to go for it in 2017 and 2018. I think they wave the white flag at the 2018 trade deadline if it's going to happen.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 23, 2016 -> 09:43 PM) Turner is throwing 98 with movement. I am telling you, watch out for him as a reliever. If he is a capable middle reliever then that just magnifies the mistake of not trading Robertson at the deadline given the payroll limitations if the front office intends on going for it next season.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 23, 2016 -> 06:17 PM) There is something salvageable with Frazier. I wouldn't trade him for a low return. Playing for a contract a year in to the AL and a new city, he should bounce back some next year, and his power is still huge. I agree I would definitely not trade him this offseason. If we are out of it by midyear he can likely be flipped for something good at the deadline. He was hitting .287 with 25 HR at the end of June 2015 so it's possible he can put together a big half season a net a top prospect if the rest of the team busts. But then again, if he rebounded like that we'd probably be at the top of the division. Trading Frazier this offseason would be making the Swisher mistake twice.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 23, 2016 -> 06:05 PM) 4.17 A 4+ ERA is subpar in the NL with all the teams that are tanking and how easy it is to get out of jams pitching around guys to get to the pitcher's spot.
  15. I didn't hate the Frazier move at the time. I thought it was smart to sell high on Thompson with how much his minor league stats deviated from the small major league sample. They just picked the wrong player to trade for. They used to be better at getting good veterans in trades but lately there have been way more misses than hits.
  16. QUOTE (Special K @ Aug 23, 2016 -> 02:01 PM) But we got him for a bargain! Only paying him $10 million a year.... What an embarrassment for whomever was pulling the trigger on that deal (which we will never know who b/c there is no accountability). With the $12-$13 million off the books from LaRoche and $15 million for Danks next year, we could theoretically use that $25 million per year to sign a big FA bat (assuming the FO was resigned to doing so) without our salary cap being really impacted. We now can no longer do that b/c we replaced Danks horrible K with another horrible K for the next 2 years (you literally can't make this stuff up). At least we have an extra $12-$13 million to sign another middling, aging veteran FA. The crazy thing is if we didn't make the Shields trade and instead dumped Robertson at the deadline we'd have the $25 mill for Cespedes without adding anything to the payroll. Burdi could probably perform comparably to Robertson next year. But that would be too much to expect our front office geniuses to work something like that.
  17. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 23, 2016 -> 12:41 PM) He has a 7.62 ERA with the White Sox. That's a f***ing AVERAGE. I suppose that means if James Shields goes out on the mound, if we don't score EIGHT RUNS, on average, we lose. Is this the worst acquisition in the history of major league baseball? But if you take away his bad starts, he has a decent ERA. That's all I heard from people around here for months on end.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 21, 2016 -> 06:16 PM) Outside of Burdi and Sale, I don't think anyone in the system has an arm like Hansen. There is no reason to not get excited about the improvements he has made so far. He's in rookie ball pal. Let's see him do this in the high minors.
  19. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 19, 2016 -> 10:21 PM) yes, I prefer a manager with Ventura's personality than Guillen's. Personality isn't the reason for Ventura's limitations as a manager, or was Guillen's personality the real problem with him as manager. And Ventura isn't the main reason why this organization, top to bottom, is bottom of the barrel. I'd rather have the team designate a wooden statue as the manager. I'm sure JR would love it because of how much money he will save. Robin is not a leader of men.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 19, 2016 -> 10:37 AM) That was a trade that had to be made according to you. Now you can't even let it go. Change your name to Trump. Didn't Trump vote in support of TPP dozens of times until Bernie came along? Oh wait.........I'm a low information voter I must have gotten that one mixed up.
  21. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Aug 18, 2016 -> 11:28 PM) You "love the bantar" ? OK.. I prefer a play-by-play announcer that is more focused on the game and has a better feel for it than Benetti. He is consumed with the bantar and inane questioning of Stone because that is all he has in his own playbook. This season has been a long one and Benetti's perpetual interview of Steve Stone asking ever more inane questions have made listening to the broadcasts unbearable at times. What is most annoying to me is his inability to follow the action in real time, describe it with accuracy as it is happening, and impart excitement when it is called for. As I pointed out, Benetti often raises his voice on routine fly balls. I'm fine with someone who has never played professional baseball, but the Peter principle set in for this guy a long time ago. Maybe back at HF. It's never going to be popular to criticize Benetti because of his disability and I am sensitive to that. Putting that aside the fact is that Benetti's skill set is not up to par with his peers, not even close to other major league baseball play-by-play announcers. It won't be long before he gawn, IMHO. I find listening to Benetti pretty cringeworthy too. I prefer Hawk.
  22. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 18, 2016 -> 09:22 PM) It's like the NFL combine. His windup sucks. Hitters see the ball well. He can't throw hard enough to get anybody out. Once again why does Coop have a job? Yeah he holds the ball in one spot for a little over a second so some hitters with a good eye might be able to pick up what pitch it is. His windup reminds me of one of those little league windups when they first start teaching kids how to pitch. But it's a little sped up.
  23. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 18, 2016 -> 09:06 PM) I'll help pay for Scioscia to come to Chicago. At least he's a guy with a track record of success and knowing what to do at the major league level AND best of all, he has NO connections...none, zero, nada to the White Sox. Mark He'd be too expensive for JR.
  24. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 18, 2016 -> 08:16 PM) These post game celebrations are so stupid. Anyway, why not intentionally walk two batters there? Desperation mode, but you gotta do it. Because all that would do is allow Turner to give up 4 runs instead of the 1 run.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2016 -> 05:44 PM) Indians look to be good the next few years Would've been nice to offload Robertson's contract at the deadline then slot Burdi into the setup role next year. Then we might've had the money to sign two top FA's. Would've saved $17 mill for next year with Duke and Robertson gone. But then we traded for Shieeeeelds even though we get Danks off the books.
