  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 17, 2016 -> 05:09 PM) Sox offered Gordon more supposedly, and Kennedy isn't exactly a glowing example of why the sox should be spending big bucks. If the front office wasn't such a massive fail with player development I would agree with you. But it's absolutely necessary if they are going to go for it. I fully expect it to be another half-assed attempt at contending this offseason though.
  2. QUOTE (Scoots @ Aug 17, 2016 -> 04:37 PM) Looking at this lineup, I think that if the Spx are going all in again next year, they NEED to upgrade at catcher and obviously offense...I think Wilson Ramos of the Nationals should be their biggest free agent target as he provides an excellent upgrade with both of those, and I also hope Morneau is resigned (if they don't get Encarnacion or Trumbo which likely will not happen). That's my wish list, Ramos and Morneau. You seriously think we are 1 player away? It's going to take Ramos, Cespedes, Morneau and even then it's not a guarantee we take the division.
  3. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 17, 2016 -> 01:49 PM) I don't think JR's a bad owner in the sense he's too cheap...he's had a mid-range budget most of the time, which is reasonable. He's had some peculiarities, but I don't see that as a problem. What is a problem is that he's stuck by a front office that simply hasn't gotten the job done for many years. JR is definitely cheap. Isn't Abreu our biggest contract ever? It was only 68 mill. That's A's, Indians, Pirates, and Royals territory. Won't get it done going forward and people are just going to collectively start tuning this team out if it does continue. Front office is delusional.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 16, 2016 -> 05:30 PM) For the love of god stop playing Shuck Robin can't play rookies when he's trying to save his job.
  5. Our brain trust has apparently decided that he's not an every day catcher. So even if it makes sense to play him every day the rest of the season Navarro and Avila will get all of the AB's. Just like our brain trust has decided Avi Garcia is a 5 tool stud outfielder and will run him out there until the wheels fall off even if 1000+ PA's tell them otherwise.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 13, 2016 -> 07:32 PM) Conley 2-2 off Shields. At least he didn't allow a homer to the pitcher He already has to Bartolo Colon
  7. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 13, 2016 -> 07:22 PM) Prove it He's been bad enough overall that there actually isn't even a debate about it.
  8. Every poster who praised this trade lost any credibility they may have had. Shields is the worst pitcher the White Sox have ever acquired.
  9. Yeah just use and abuse Rodon Robin (120+ pitches). Desperate to win a meaningless game to save his sorry ass
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 11:45 PM) Strange to see that boxscore with 1s and 0s for Ks and then Anderson's five. White Sox springing more holes tonight in their quest for mediocrity next year. Anderson with the first diamond sombrero I can remember.
  11. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 03:05 PM) How COULD they do it? Sign Cespedes, sign Ramos, resign Morneau, and desperately hope for a bounceback year from Shields. With Shields pitching like a 3, Gonzalez pitching like a 4 (which he has this year), and those additions to the offense, that's probably at least a WC team, even if Rodon doesn't take a step forward. That said, there's about a 0% chance the Sox do that. Rodon would be the guy who needs to pitch like a 3. Shields is more like a 5th starter at this point. And if the Sox don't spend this offseason they aren't contending. I don't care who they acquire, they will NOT contend unless some combination of 2 solid-elite players are acquired through FA and/or trade not including signing Morneau.
  12. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 12:56 AM) I'd be curious what $25M would buy. Cespedes and a few more bodies
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 04:50 PM) If we signed Encarnacion for 4 for 80 I'd be happy to go for it next year. Sox won't sign him because Boston has a huge hole at DH with Ortiz retiring. He's their #1 target. They should do something like re-sign Morneau, sign Cespedes, and trade for McCann. Could Fulmer + be enough for McCann? This whole go for it mentality will fail miserably unless JR finally commits some serious $$ LF - Cabrera CF - Cespedes RF - Eaton 3B - Frazier SS - Anderson 2B - Lawrie 1B - Abreu C - McCann DH - Morneau Util - Saladino 4OF - Tilson
  14. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 10:50 PM) That's like saying Albers is a decent arm out of the pen. I had literally had all his defenders in the Shields thread over a month ago telling me how if you take away his bad starts he has something like a 3.00 ERA. I said Latos and Gonzalez are better than Shields when the trade was made which made it a pointless trade.
  15. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 03:13 PM) At this rate Shields is going to LOSE 20 games this year. Great pickup Rick! And how about that Albers and Kahnle combo? Sox traded a kid who looks like he's got a real chance for that stiff Kahnle who throws 100, problem is he can't find the plate. Mark But as many on this forum will tell you, if you take away Shields bad starts he's a decent middle of the rotation arm.
  16. QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 6, 2016 -> 10:17 PM) Obviously this was an idiotic pie in the sky fantasy orgasm post just meant to spur conversation. That said, I do believe it illustrates on fundamental truth for next year: No in between bulls***. Either rip the f***er apart or pony up and do this s*** right. No f***ing holes - no f***ing expenses spared. Go for it or sell it all off. Boston is going to be in big on Encarnacion. He's probably their #1 FA target with Ortiz retiring. I don't see us getting Encarnacion. I think the best we can hope for is two of the following: Cespedes, Trumbo, Reddick, Desmond, Ramos, Wieters. It wouldn't be like the front office at all to sign two expensive FA's though. I'd be ok rolling with Morneau, Cespedes, and Ramos.
  17. Seems like he could stick as a backup. Didn't strike out much at any level of the minors but always hit for a low avg with no power. If we are going to compete we need a better starting catcher. If his bat could develop a bit he could become starting caliber in time.
  18. QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 12:16 AM) It sure would be fun to watch him play center - I could play clown themed circus music as a soundtrack to all his plays. All we need is a ball bouncing off his head for a home run like Canseco did.
  19. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 09:55 AM) We couldn't pick up a single guy from this loaded off season and now we're going to acquire Ramos/Desmond/Encarnacion in 1 off season and commit probably around 200-250 million? Nahhhhh No one was traded at the deadline so I can only assume they intend to be buyers next offseason unless front office and/or manager changes are made. Has nothing to do what I think they should do. I've already made numerous long posts about why the Sox should be selling.
  20. QUOTE (Lillian @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 06:32 PM) Given the 3 homers he hit in the Tiger series, I suspect that we will see a lot of Avi, for the rest of the season. That's fine with me. He still has very impressive power, if he can learn to utilize it. It's easy to understand why the front office doesn't want to give up on him, and his intriguing long ball potential. Even that out he made last night, was hit a long way. I'm rooting for him to succeed, and with nothing much more to play for, they might as well at least see if he can make some progress. He'll never have any value unless he can hit 30+ HR or hit .300+ because he has zero defensive value or stolen base potential. With over 1000 major league AB's, 95% chance he's a finished product at this point. KW with his stubbornness and massive ego is the only reason Avi is still here.
  21. QUOTE (shakes @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 04:48 PM) I'm still torn on whether Hahn is really at the wheel, because I think some of these changes he's behind but they are just trickling in and the impact is too slow while trying to constantly field a competitive team. It's just a totally disjointed approach that has the feel of too many cooks in the kitchen. It would be ideal to get a new FO in and then make the strategic decisions, but to me that seems about as likely as believing in the Sox bandaid approach working next year. JR's long history really shows the management level shakeup needs to be forced upon him. Sick of seeing excuses for Hahn. They are all a failure. He's failed spectacularly at what he was given to work with. There is nothing you can point to about this front office and organization for the most part and say they do better than most other teams.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 03:39 PM) Even those hoping for losses at this point have to be happy whenever Q wins a start. To get six runs to work with is pretty nice for a chance. Quintana is a helluva pitcher. I did see we got six runs in the first two innings, then no more the rest of the way. The only thing I'm hoping for is for Sale and Q to dominate and keep that trade value as high as possible. Also, progression of the young guys.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 12:49 AM) I might be done with them too. If Robin is back, it's inexcusable. Are we really winless against Central teams Det, KC and Cleveland on the road this year? My gawd. This team is fast becoming the Oakland Raiders of the MLB if they aren't already.
  24. They won't do anything much. The fact that no one was moved at the deadline proves they are going for it again.
  25. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 11:00 PM) With the way the White Sox organization operates, don't be surprised if they bring him back next year. If that happens I'm done with this team until they get new ownership.
