August 3rd Game Thread: ChiSox at Detroit
soxforlife05 replied to InTheDriversSeat's topic in 2016 Season in Review
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 08:49 PM) Frazier. Elite bat. Navarro - swings at a crappy pitch. Didn't look like a bad pitch on gameday. Looked right down the middle. You're not going to win many games in the AL when 1/3 of your batting order are automatic outs. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 12:51 AM) How can Steverson not take Anderson under his wing? There's no way a paid hitting coach can condone this style of hitting. There has to be a way to get Anderson to be more selective. A walk truly is as good as a hit and he simply does not have the ability or maturity to draw a walk. He worked a count to 3-2 today but just didn't manage to get a walk. It seems like he sometimes works the count but more often than not he's free swinging.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 09:10 PM) Good f***ing God Avi is murdering baseballs tonight It's why he has 9 lives. It's always a freak injury or DL stint by another player then he has a game like this then they keep giving him chances. I'm just f***ing amazed that a pro athlete who has gotten as many chances as he has can't develop into even a serviceable player at the major league level.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 09:06 PM) I don't understand why Fulmer is up. Is Jerry letting this thing just go to hell to be sure he's gona clean house? LOL this is incredible. He can't be this loyal can he? People at that age get very set in their ways and are very resistant to change. Don't see the right changes being made until JR passes unfortunately.
-
Just send Fulmer back to AA already. He doesn't belong in the bigs.

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 08:43 PM) They look capable of going 23-34 the final 57. 74-88. Something like that. That would be pathetic considering the start to the season. 51-78 after the 23-10 start lol
-
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 08:08 PM) I wonder if Morneau would want to stay with the Sox. It would be a shame for the Sox to pay to rehabilitate him in a lost season only to see him sign elsewhere and resume tormenting the Sox in another uniform. I bet he goes back to Minnesota to finish his career.
-
QUOTE (CregerMax @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 07:49 PM) Well he was good while he lasted. The Tilsin Era is over. Lasted about as long as Davidson but slightly longer than Kevan Smith. Well f*** this now we need to cover CF, C, and DH for next year. No chance of competing.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 07:44 PM) Are you trolling me or something? Why in the world would this help me? http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=100296 I love how mods and admins make this post then start baiting and trolling people

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 06:53 PM) Tim should still be in the minor leagues. Dude doesn't have a clue at the plate. He already hit .300 down there he doesn't have anything more to figure out against AAA pitching.

QUOTE (TRU @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 08:57 PM) All in all, there's too much work to be done for this team to be good enough to make the playoffs in 2017 They can DH/1B Frazier and Abreu and move Saladino to 3B. Or they can DH/1B Frazier and Abreu and move Lawrie to 3B and Saladino to 2B. If they made this move they would have to fill the remaining holes by signing Ramos and Desmond. I'm sure that will add ~$35 mill annually to the payroll. If Tilson panned out for CF they could do something like sign Encarnacion/Trumbo and Ramos.
-
QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 07:19 PM) Jerry won't out-bid teams for Cespedes, Reddick, Rasmus, etc. We all know that which makes this all the more frustrating. They'll go halfway and sign 1 big FA and leave 2 other big holes with questionable patchwork signings. Won't be enough.

The usual reminder on board conduct...
soxforlife05 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Be careful mods. If this board becomes like "the other place" used to be, people will just go right back to "the other place" -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 05:43 PM) Here is the problem. If the return on a deal is only mediocre, how does that help you get any better? I mean they were willing to deal guys if they got the right offer, but they didn't. I can't think of any reason not to trade Melky, Robertson, Gonzalez, or Shields. I guess Frazier you could hope he rebounds to finish the year and sell in the offseason but no reason with the others.
-
They might as well claim him. It's not like they'll spend $20 mill on an OF FA.
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 02:26 PM) I feel like I'm experiencing an alternate reality or something. You guys are acting like this team is 20 games under .500 and has a bunch of pending free agents. Again, I understand the opinion that the team should rebuild, but I don't understand why everyone is acting like it's unbelievable that they aren't selling. It's very believable. They didn't "blow" anything, they just made a different decision than you wanted. How does trotting out Avi Garcia year after year help us contend? How does trading Zack Duke help us contend? How does passing up on better FA's because they have a draft pick attached (Fowler, Desmond) help us contend?
-
I really think they are going for it with the same roster again next year. In fact in the trade deadline prediction thread I said the most likely scenario was no one traded, second most likely was robertson, third most likely was we are buyers. I think I was almost spot on. Just was off on Robertson it was Duke moved.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 02:30 PM) "Mired in mediocrity" then only trades Zach Duke. Gutless franchise I don't fault them for not moving Sale/Q given what was rumored but seriously, why waste so much time entertaining Boston? Just tell them what you want with every team and tell them not to call back unless they are meeting your demands. Then turn your attention to moving guys like Melky, Robertson, Frazier, Shields, Gonzalez.

Sale for Urias, De Leon, Montas, Verdugo, Bellinger Quintana for Benintendi, Devers, E Rod Really hope these deals go down. Robertson could be added to the Quintana package for another prospect.
-
QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 02:37 AM) Clearly these next ~12 hours need to go by quickly so we can all stop taking wild stabs in the dark and move on with life. I think the trade talk is here to stay as long as we have veteran assets to trade on the roster.
-
QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 02:26 AM) Include Melky if you need to for LA. Then Q for Benintendi, Devers, Swihirt, and Kopech. Wouldn't mind those deals. I'd prefer E Rod over Swihart though even if we only got Benintendi, Devers, E Rod

White Sox trade Zach Duke to the STL Cardinals
soxforlife05 replied to flavum's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Duke seems like one of those guys who could have a Scott Downs like implosion at any time. -
I think I'd prefer a package centered around Urias for Sale at this point. If Boston won't budge on Moncada/Benintendi/Devers in one package I'll take 2/3 + a few more prospects for Q.
-
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 10:16 PM) Duke and Jones will be the two pieces moved. Jones will be dealt for a AAA catcher we'll plug into the spot next season when we go for it again........ Why trade Jones now? We can trade Robertson and make Jones the closer then trade him in 1-1.5 years for a much higher return.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 05:15 PM) That would be so incredibly risky IMO. First off, your odds of building winner for the 2017 are incredibly low. Second, you're passing on potential value that guys like Melky & Gonzalez could get you now. Finally, you're gambling that your prized assets don't get hurt between now and next July. Why take that risk? This organization needs to be smart for once and blow things up between now and the offseason. Clearly they don't have enough trade value or they'd be gone.
