White sox may be reconsidering their stance of being non sellers
soxforlife05 replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 01:29 PM) Right. It's a trade off. Right now, teams are more desperate. In the offseason there are more teams interested but they're not as liable to be stupid. What a difference half a season make. I would love to see the percentage of people here who want a full rebuild now. Teams are more likely to overpay with additional prospects (not on mlb roster) at the deadline. If you want young mlb proven talent in a deal for Sale or Q you have to wait until the offseason because teams can fill those holes created in the offseason but not in the middle of the season. -

That makes me think they are going to sell guys who will be FA's in 1-2 seasons to acquire prospects to attempt to make a last shot at a world series run in 2018 and 2019. A massive rebuild would start in 2020 if unsuccessful. I guess that means they would try to move Melky, Shields, Robertson, or Frazier. Maybe Lawrie or other pen arms as well. The irony is if they sold most useful players over the next year they would probably be set to contend by 2020 for much longer. -
Ladies and Gents, Your 2016 Chicago White Sox

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 02:36 AM) All very vague stuff. Fact is this is about a .500 or slightly below roster in talent, it should be no surprise this is where we are right now. Yep, the Sox are right where they should be and on pace for where most people expected them to be before the season. -
23-10 then 23-38. Turner is seriously penciled in for a start on Friday? Fffffff

David Robertson is a fantastic closer

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 12:35 PM) We were stupid for getting him work in a blowout game a couple weeks ago, now we're stupid for not getting him work in blowout games No you've got that one wrong. The reason people called it stupid is because the manager left the player in the game to give up 6-7? runs when it was clear by the 3rd run that the guy could not get anyone out that day. -
QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 18, 2016 -> 11:32 PM) This team is just awful. In the past three games - you've had two games, TWO - where the starters went 16 innings giving up a COMBINED 3 hits, ZERO runs.... And NO WINS TO SHOW FOR IT????? Absolutely INEXCUSABLE. Fire Robin. Can KW. Sell anyone not named Anderson, Fulmer, Eaton, and Or keep Sale / Q / Shields / Fulmer / Rodon / Abreu / Eaton / Anderson in tact and build to compete in 2018. Still fire Robin and KW. 2017 is a wash no matter what they do. We're s*** up a creek and it's because they've been trying to compete and "retool" since 2013. It doesn't f***ing work. Sell the farm and hope to compete around 2020... Or spend like crazy and try to compete in 2018. Both directions involve a lot of pain but it's been 4 years of poor in between choices that put us here. f***ing disgusted. I'd say keep Sale and Q around for now just because I don't want this front office trading them. I'd trade one this offseason and one at the trade deadline next year with a new front office in place. Let them trade Melky, Frazier, Robertson, Duke, Jones, Shields (if you can get something better than what we gave up), etc. for now.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 18, 2016 -> 10:59 PM) To be honest, I could give a rat's ass about the Cubs and their fans. This is about the White Sox getting to where they can compete year in year out and have a realistic championship window. Exactly, who cares about the Cubs. So what if the Sox have to rebuild and be terrible for 5 years. The Cubs have been terrible for 100+.

soxforlife05 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He's just ok, nothing special. Basically like Addison Reed before we traded him. If I could get a decent prospect for him he'd be gone. -
I'm sure Ventura's post game speech to the team was filled with a laundry list of empty cliches.
-
Adam Lind = The new Jason Giambi On another note, why take out Sale at 100 pitches when he's throwing a 1 hitter? At least let him start the inning and see if he can get a few quick outs. He deserves the CG 1 hitter.
-
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 10:47 PM) There's an opportunity to extend him as well. He has 5-6 years of good performance left, and the team that trades for him has 2 of those years and the highest probability of getting the rest. If any team wants Lucroy badly the Sox have zero chance of getting him. And given how he's probably one of the top 3 guys on the market and he plays a premium position he is a likely overpay for a team with a stacked system.

7/16/16 Sox @ Angels Shields vs Shoemaker

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 09:42 PM) But if we do move those guys and keep Sale/Q etc. then we're doing one of those bulls*** "it's not rebuilding, it's retooling!! :)" things that will end up with us being .500. We need to commit to something, selling or buying, and go all in on that one thing. I'm tired of our front office's noncommittal attitude. This is what I keep saying as well and what bothers me the most about the current approach of the front office. -

QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 09:35 PM) I'll repeat again....so everyone is mad with the team Rick Hahn assembled. But you want him to make the most important trade in franchise history. One that may decide if we are competitive in five years or go 20 years without winning. Do I have that right? JR is too loyal to fire people that should be fired. I thought that was pretty much acknowledged by everyone here at this point? -

QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 09:10 PM) Looks like the word's out about Anderson. Don't ever throw it in the zone. Easy K. No point watching this guy hit with 2 strikes- his approach doesn't change at all. I said in his thread a few weeks ago they would start doing this. -

QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 08:14 PM) They will lose if they sell. For maybe a long time. Trading Sale doesnt = winning baseball. Really trading anyone on the roster doesnt equate to more wins. Not in the near future and potentially long term future. How many times do I have to refute this stupid point that so many people keep making. You are wasting the WAR of Sale/Q on losing teams when you can trade them to contenders to acquire WAR in the form of players who can contribute in future seasons which is MUCH more valuable to this team. Ownership could be different at the next contention window and we may actually sign the top free agents for once. It doesn't matter if the return is less than 1 for 1 because you are getting something for Sale/Q when they would become free agents anyway without contributing to a playoff team. The current roster is too talent deficient and there are only a handful of prospects in our system right now who have a prayer of being better than a utility player or reliever. -
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 10:33 AM) Fulmer has better "stuff" than Gonzo from his 94 -95 mph fastball with movement to his curve and slider. Fulmer has core strength, endurance , and tenacity. He has demonstrated humility and is eager to accept advice from veterans and suggestions from coaches. Fulmer's aggressive mound presence may be more suitable as a reliever right now but he can learn to dial that back in order to be a starter. Having said that, there is no reason to doubt Fulmer. Instead, Sox fans should be excited to see him break into the majors to help in the bullpen. Or would you rather see the corpulent Matt Albers as the first man out of the bullpen for the rest of this season? Rookies are extremely inconsistent. Just look at Rodon who projects as a much better starter than Fulmer and even he has been awful at times this year. I don't think it would be fair to expect better than a 4.50 ERA or so out of him if he is a starter next year. More than likely it will be just over 5.00. Which is why I was saying he won't be better than Gonzalez next year so it's not making the team any better when we could trade Fulmer to cover another hole.
-
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 05:49 PM) Another winning streak and they could be on top of the division again. That's not really a good argument against doing something to improve the team. Haven't you seen our record against divisional opponents not named Minnesota? It's 6-18
-
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 04:39 PM) Would those odds not improve tremendously with the addition of Lucroy? We are within 1 game of being behind 7 teams for the wild card. Another losing streak and the team is finished.

7/15/16 White Sox at Angels

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 05:33 AM) Nice to see the break helped the offense................this team is not going anywhere. Yeah that's been obvious for quite a while now. Just hate the lack of direction the team has. -
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 15, 2016 -> 07:50 PM) I think he will be good. You may not be convinced but i am and believe he can be good. Hopefully he proves you wrong over the rest of the season Of course he "can be" good. He's a 1st round pick after all. That doesn't mean he is ready for the majors. Their experiment to fast track Burdi is failing because they wanted him in the pen this year and that is highly doubtful to happen with how many hits he's giving up in the low minors. Perhaps they are just giving Fulmer the chance this year instead.
-
Wouldn't be a bad guy to sell high on at the deadline if Sale and Q are going to be traded this offseason in a rebuild type scenario.
-
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 15, 2016 -> 07:31 PM) Dont think sox would be trading fulmer unless its a true bat thats under control. I've read fulmer is definitely bullpen ready now. Let him get his taste now then getting going into rotation next year. I'm not convinced Fulmer will be any better than Gonzalez next year. That doesn't help us improve the team with what little chance this team has to actually make the playoffs in the next few years. The only way the Sox will need Fulmer is if Shields opts out.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 15, 2016 -> 07:29 PM) This isn't going to hurt his trade value at all. And I highly doubt there has been any plan to trade him this season. If he can't make it as a reliever then there's no way it would work out as a starter. That's all I'm saying. And if there is no plans to trade Fulmer I am really confused because they won't have a good shot at a wild card this season. I thought they were "going for it"? I guess the 3rd year of the 3 year plan is what they are banking on. Yeah, that's gotta be it.
-
This is going to kill whatever trade value he has right now. Way too premature to call him up now. If they really see him as a reliever why not give him a few weeks in the AAA pen to make sure he can handle the jump? I was much more confident about Anderson (but slightly concerned about the walk rate going forward) but I don't see this going well for Fulmer his first time around. I guess we are not trading for any impact bats if this means Fulmer is going to stay with the team.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 15, 2016 -> 01:26 AM) Personal or personnel? Not quite sure I understand the "personal reasons" for why he wouldn't be starting but would be coming out of the pen instead... He's getting showcased for a trade I bet. Weird timing considering he hasn't earned the promotion with his performance either.
