  1. QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 1, 2016 -> 06:32 PM) He has one bad year in 8 career seasons dude - 2016. He's got a career 3.57 ERA/3.56 FIP/1.28 WHIP/2.6 BB/9 / and one of the better change ups from the left side in the NL. Obviously health has been an issue but this is the market you're looking at for a guy like him. Have you watched him pitch this past year? He pitches to contact and doesn't have anywhere near overpowering stuff much like Danks before he became worthless. 3.57 ERA in the NL is not that impressive. That NL Central division has been weak as hell for a long time as a whole with the exception of one good team here and there like the Cubs recently.
  2. No idea how Jamie Garcia is worth anything anytime I've seen him pitch he's looked like Danks.
  3. He will probably start at some point. But I don't think he projects as a starter on a playoff caliber team.
  4. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Nov 27, 2016 -> 09:35 PM) Move on from this thread, if you can't participate according to our rules then just move on to other threads, no need to come in here and snipe. You must not spend a lot of time in the pale hose forum if you call me a "sniper". Do your job Russ, lock the thread.
  5. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Nov 27, 2016 -> 09:31 PM) Guys, we already gave a warning, take these comments to the filibuster. No political comments will be allowed here. Then lock or move the thread already. The rumor was pulled out of some random poster's ass anyway. Doesn't merit a serious response.
  6. Well at least we know he likes to spend recklessly. That could be good for our ability to sign top FA's. The downward arrow on the ballpark would be so appropriate for an Obama owned team.
  7. QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 12:03 AM) If we somehow gained enough depth over the course of the next 6 months, I'd absolutely love to see Fulmer become a hybrid 2-4 inning type guy. I'd rather Shields be that guy. Fulmer should be starting if he's good enough to hang at the major league level.
  8. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 22, 2016 -> 08:21 PM) I think it ends up being more of a "retooling" than a blow up/fire sale. Trade Sale for the biggest package of prospects possible and then move Melky, Frazier, and Robertson. I personally say just demolish the whole team, but the way I think the team intends to does have a shot of working. (Just using Boston as hypothetical) If we add Benentendi and Devers to Eaton, Abreu, Anderson, and Collins, come 2018 there could be a glimmer of hope. And that's not including 2 more high picks + whatever we get for Melky/Frazier/Robertson. Maybe a free agent or 2 as well once $ opens up and we are paying a lot of young guys. It would take a lot of things to go right of course, but the quick turnaround route really isn't impossible in my opinion. But again, doing it the right way and trading Q, Eaton, and Abreu and waiting an extra year or 2 makes more sense to me. They will probably hold onto our long term core in case we hit big on the Sale trade. Then move most of the remaining players in 2-3 years if it is a bust. The short term contracts will probably be gone this offseason like you mentioned.
  9. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 22, 2016 -> 03:01 PM) I was told the Sox are planning on trading Sale and keeping Q. That's the smart move. Other teams severely undervalue Q. When he is the ace of our staff he will start to get a lot more attention. Then maybe he could be traded a few years from now if we still aren't close to contending.
  10. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Nov 19, 2016 -> 04:15 PM) I don't NEED a hot supermodel wife necessarily... If he was all about top dollar he wouldn't be so public about wanting an early extension. Pretty sure he was vocal about it in spring training last year too. Samardzija was hell bent on testing FA from the day we traded for him.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 19, 2016 -> 02:03 PM) He is going to get 1 chance to cash in on the FA market in his career. You want him back you're going to have to pay for him. He doesn't strike me as a guy looking to break the bank.
  12. QUOTE (daggins @ Nov 19, 2016 -> 03:05 PM) They could also trade absolutely nobody and end up buying. Basically, we still have no idea what is going on. It sounds like Encarnacion doesn't have much of a market right now. Think we could get him for cheaper than a lot of people expect. Boston reportedly not interested in him and want a guy on a short term deal for DH.
  13. QUOTE (WBWSF @ Nov 16, 2016 -> 02:51 PM) Have the team sign Castro and then sign Cespedes and it will be a Merry Christmas for White Sox fans. Cespedes didn't want to come here last year though. So I don't know why anything would change. Obviously he would be a great signing though.
  14. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 16, 2016 -> 04:07 PM) Can you guys imagine the meltdown that will happen here if Sale isn't traded this offseason or if someone like Gray or Archer are dealt for a haul? No team ever seems to really want our players. Even our best ones. We need the Eastern Seaboard Programming Network hype machine to do their magic for our players too.
  15. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 07:36 PM) I still think the Yankees are a sleeping giant in this whole Sale saga. I just can't forget what Joel Sherman said at the trade deadline about the Yankees and Chris Sale. I think they'll be in it near the end. Yeah the Yankees do have the prospects to get it done if they want to jump over a team like Boston at the last minute.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 11:33 AM) The scariest thing about a rebuild is expecting an organization that has a decade long streak of not developing position players for the most part will be depending on developing position players. That is true but we will be left with nothing either way even if a rebuild fails versus 3 more fruitless seasons of going for it. All our players will be going to FA and none of them will be retained. Assuming the trades aren't total failures we won't be facing a Padres rebuild.
  17. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 04:49 PM) Top prospect is all pretty relative. Guys like Bellinger & DeLeon are top 25 prospects, but not the Dodgers' #1. However, they'd be the top prospect for a lot of organizations. Having this condition that you must get a team's top prospect in a Sale trade is pretty stupid IMO. You want to get the best overall package and that must measure both quantity and quality. I think the Dodgers could make an incredibly strong offer that doesn't include Urias if they give up a s***-ton of their depth. If Sale can't net a team's top prospect that is a total failure. Can you even name more than a handful of players with more value than him that have been traded in the last 10 years?
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 14, 2016 -> 07:00 PM) He probably figures he's already made enough to where his life won't change materially if he doesn't live up to the guaranteed portion of the initial contract. More risk than reward in opting out imo. Especially for a 1B who projects more as a DH.
  19. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 14, 2016 -> 08:16 PM) I think it would be dumb to diminish the package we could get just to hold our for Urias. He's going to be valued at a seriously high price, as he should, which is going to hurt what the rest of the deal looks like. With a serious lack of talent all the way down the organization I'd rather see us get 3 guys that can help soon than just Urias. That, and I can definitely see LA just outright refusing to deal Urias... If no Urias there is zero chance we get remotely close to equal value for Sale AND Frazier. If you take lots of mediocre prospects we will be stuck in the position of having few holes but no star power. This team will not sign big time FA's and we will be back in fire sale mode.
  20. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 14, 2016 -> 06:19 PM) Benintendi might be the higher regarded prospect at this point. Good then take Moncada. He was considered untouchable until he had a less than impressive 19 AB's.
  21. Always a bad idea to turn down a guaranteed $34 million. His life is not going to change materially if he's lucky enough to make an extra couple million a season. With how bad he looked earlier in the season compared to previous years and the increase in injury risk with age that is a bit of a surprise.
  22. Nightengale says no serious talks with any team. Looking like the trade deadline all over again.
  23. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Nov 14, 2016 -> 02:50 AM) BP Boston offered up this trade of Frazier in a recent post.... Todd Frazier and Nate Jones to the Red Sox for... C Blake Swihart SS Mauricio Dubon SP Henry Owens RP Williams Jerez Not a terribly exciting return, but I think it's probably a fair one. Swihart we all pretty much know, Henry Owens used to be a top prospect, Dubon is 22 and hit .339 this season in 62 games in AA (stole 30 bases combined between A+ and AA), and Jerez is just kind of a throw-in reliever. That is an awful deal. We would be lucky to get 1 major leaguer out of that group. Meanwhile we are sending them a 40 HR 3B and elite reliever on a great contract.
