  1. Harper is White and his team wears red, no thanks. He'll come here and bat .202 with 30 homers. Dunn, Roach, Frazier.
  2. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 04:03 PM) What would be a good 2.5 months for Moncada? Off of my head I'd consider the following good for him. Not what I am expecting per se, but it would be a good start. BA- .275 OBP- .330 HR- 9 HR K rate- 27% E's
  3. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 03:24 PM) Something tells me we are going to keep Abreu for as long as we can. And when he retires I could see us keeping him in the organization somehow to help with recruiting Cuban players here Yep a player like him has a ton of non statistical value. It's like a really good college recruiter, you can get a nice pipeline rolling.
  4. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 10:24 AM) I would love to land a guy like that, but can't see any major superstars ever coming to the Sox. They lose too much money on endorsements by playing in the shadows and not getting the recognition they deserve. Take Sale for instance, one of the top two or three pitchers in baseball and he has to go to Boston to get people to take notice of how good he really is. I think it is much more likely the Sox acquire someone like Stanton that the Marlins don't want to pay anymore, has superstar upside and is locked in long term. Stanton to the Phillies speculation has made it sound like a Stanton trade would be a salary dump. The 10 years and $285M left on the deal (plus an option with a $10M buyout) would get the Sox a generational talent with a much more realistic pricetag than what Harper is going to command. This is not true in 2017. There is an article on ESPN's baseball page titled "Is there anything Yoan Moncada can't do"? and "Get to know Yoan Moncada" Winning will put any talented player in the spotlight, being a good player will also put you in the spotlight.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 04:58 PM) Next year there will at least be a graduation of Lopez (who is currently pitching a gem), Giolito, and Moncada. Maybe we'll get an actual FA flyer gem that plays well for a year. I hear you on the execution. By the books, this looks good, but we haven't had a player absolutely fly the guns blazing like Acuna is right now, or Devers or Benintendi. I guess Kopech could be that guy but he's restricted. The 2016/2017 draft does make me nervous in terms of hitters. We may have been fooled by advanced college hitters in age advanced or age appropriate leagues performing well for a bit. But regardless, that draft may have gotten us a lockdown reliever and top 100 pitcher. Collins, if he sticks, has a very low bar to clear to be a top catching prospect. See the stats of some of the other top catchers like Pentecost. The players like Call/Fisher may fail, but we also have Bernardo Flores. Basically if we get 3 major leaguers from that draft I think it deserves it's praise. This was the point I was making yesterday. I'd rather us pick 6-10 because our young guys are showing promise than to pick number 2 back to back to back years with no hope.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 04:54 PM) I like what they are doing. And I am hoping that once these deals get done, there will be enough of these kids coming up over the next few seasons to sustain some interest. Moncada should be coming soon, then perhaps a few of the arms. I will continue to cheer on Avi and Davidson and some others that have shown some promise. But yeah, otherwise, this will not be fun. We won't be relieved much by our other teams either. Every team but the Hawks is in a state of rebuild. I will say, I enjoy watching this club moreso than the previous several, although I suppose this club has the benefit of no expectations whatsoever. I was complaining about this last night. Every team I lovew is horrible and rebuilding. Bulls, Bears, Sox, Illinois football, Illinois basketball, and even my high school canceled their football season last year to rebuild. I've been reduced to being a Cubs, Packers, and Cavs hater. Not many good times ahead.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 03:13 PM) He got absolutely throttled last night, which will happen. He'd pitched quite well prior to that. Maybe I was a little overly aggressive about what I'd give up, but I would take Jon Gray in a second. Career FIP of 3.6, career xFIP 3.7. Way, way too early to write him off. He has talent but I'm not putting him in the lived up to top 3 pick yet.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 12:15 PM) I mean if you are looking for future hall of gamers maybe the last 15 years of top 5 picks were disappointing but I can think of more than 4 really good players in that span and they are some of best in league. True but you can find really good players from 5-15, which is the point I'm making. My position is to caution people from losing their hair hoping we lose and everyone else wins to get a top 2 pick. History shows a few turn out really really good, some will be good, and the rest will be average to busts. I'd rather see us with the 7th pick if it meant some younger guys proved to be good pieces moving forward.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 01:41 PM) Still too early to judge 2014 in my mind. Have to wait at least 4-6 years before you can start making those calls. In reverse order, based on whether or not they were "worth" it: 2013 - Kris Bryant and Jon Gray 2012 - Carlos Correa and Byron Buxton, possibly Zunino 2011 - Gerritt Cole, Trevor Bauer, and Dylan Bundy 2010 - Bryce Harper, Jameston Taillon, Manny Machado, and Drew Pomeranz (this class was absolutely loaded) 2009 - Stephen Strasburg (also, some guy named Trout was drafted this year) 2008 - Eric Hosmer and Buster Posey. An argument can be made for both Beckham and Alvarez too 2007 - David Price, Mike Moustakas, and Matt Wieters 2006 - Evan Longoria. Picks 6-11 were much better, which include Andrew Miller, Clayton Kershaw, Tim Lincecum, and Max Scherzer 2005 - Justin Upton, Alex Gordon, Ryan Zimmerman, and Ryan Braun 2004 - Justin Verlander 2003 - Rickie Weeks 2002 - BJ Upton And that's not including a few others who did end up having value as disappointing prospects, and there were plenty of guys who fell out of the top 5 due to other reasons - signability was a big thing in the early to mid aughts, which is why a guy like Rick Porcello fell as far as he did. The draft has changed considerably for the better over the past 5-10 years as a result. No, getting a top 3 pick is absolutely necessary, and I think they'll ultimately pick 2nd. It'll be a tight race down the stretch with the Phillies. My point is that picks 1-4 aren't sure fire to bring stars any moreso than 5-13. The bolded are the only guys I would call game changers, You always want to draft high but I'd rather draft 7-10 if it meant our young guys were playing well.
  10. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 12:10 PM) This is the wrong way to look at it. You want to pick as high as possible in every draft round and have the highest bonus pool possible. I don't disagree with this. I'm just saying it's not worth us stressing about losing and hoping 5 other teams win each night. These are dark days and there shouldn't be any disappointment if we pick 5th.
  11. I get that scoreboard watching is fun, but in all honest picks 1-5 are a crapshoot anyway. From 2002-2014 there were four guys that lived up to the hype. I don't care where we draft, as long as we find the right player.
  12. QUOTE (FT35 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 11:35 AM) Very true--they might just keep him because they want him, but I doubt they are thinking Robels will be the only capable replacement for Bryce Harper IF they don't resign him. They aren't going to throw away a year because of that...then again...they did punt a season where they had the inside track on a pennant run to save Strasburg some innings......... Don't underestimate how dumb the Nationals are. They should have just started Strasburg in July and let him pitch through the playoffs. They were gonna make it regardless. Also, if they think Robles is going to replace Harper they are mistaken. The only way to retain Harper's production is to win the WS and re-sign him. The Nationals run of making the postseason is about to come to an end in a year or two so might as well go for it.
  13. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 05:41 PM) That Skoug fell all the way to the 7th round still baffles me. He was a projected 1st rounder this year and I think he has a future here.
  14. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 11:21 AM) Not sure that really moves the needle. Every team added some top draft picks. We have 10 guys that can make an argument for top 100. Most teams have 4 or 5. Depth is certainly not an issue, unless we are talking about organizational 20-30 type guys. These guys are all wild cards no matter what team they play for. To answer the question you asked no question we are number 1.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 4, 2017 -> 09:13 PM) This is Trumpian fantasy. Existing in a big market does not make you a big market team. The White Sox fan base is a fraction of the Cubs. The Cubs own Chicago. Anyone who doesn't get that is delusional or irrationally angry. Chicago is large enough where even if what you say is correct, the Sox will have more fans than most teams.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 4, 2017 -> 09:48 PM) I don't really care about the upcoming 2 trades but I will say this. Robertson and Q are the keys to two teams' seasons. If the Royals acquired Robertson, they would win the WS again. Royals move their current closer to the 8th and Robertson the ninth and cover the seventh with whomever. Cubs win the WS with Q. He's a perfect fit. he'd stay in Chicago, be comfy and be perfect for that club. Neither will happen, but just saying. If we truly want to fleece somebody and get some prospects I'd trade Q to the Cubs for 4 prospects and Robertson to the ROyals for Bubba Starling and 2-3 others. Maybe Mondesi. Jerry would die by rage if the Sox handed the Cubs a world series.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 4, 2017 -> 09:31 AM) I had a long reply typed out, to which I just accidentally erased because the Microsoft Surface Pro is a piece of s***. I think we need to just let this play out. If we lose value because he continues to rake and we didn't sign him early enough to defray some of that value by taking on risk, than so be it. We'll likely have to move him. Given the contracts to TA and Robert, I'd like them to avoid taking a big risk on him at this point and having it blow up in our faces. You could have gotten it right back by pressing the control key and the Z key together.
  18. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jul 3, 2017 -> 07:07 PM) The Nationals bullpen implodes again. Matt Albers just gave up a game tying HR with 2 outs in the 9th. It's getting to a point where you have to question the intelligence of their front office. If I were a player and my team blew 15 saves before before the 4th of July I'd be pissed. Management has a job to do and they aren't doing it. I'm not saying this either for Sox trade purposes but I couldn't imagine being on the field knowing my team is gonna blow the lead.
  19. Yeah but you also dont want to stretch out starters when you have a big lead because your pen sucks. You also don't want to screw up team morale. If you did your job well at work but a few coworkers kept screw up so the projects fail at the end you'd be pissed. It's only human nature to get frustrated when others blow your great work time and time again. It's only a matter of time before that locker room starts to breakdown.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 09:10 AM) People still believe this? Yep. Once I see further movement from our core I will begin to think otherwise. I also don't think Q's value will get any better than it was this summer. He is who he is and teams know it. There will be several options on the market as well. We will get a solid package but nothing better than this summer probably.
  21. This rebuild is a 4 until I see a trade involving players that didn't anger the Front Office. So far we've only traded away Eaton and Sale. We probably lost a lot of value not trading Q earlier so hopefully he can have another dominate month leading to the trade deadline to get us a top 50 prospect.
  22. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Apr 23, 2017 -> 05:43 PM) I would like that move. Anything to see a real CF. Real CF's don't get DFA'd.
  23. Everyone wanted Avi gone but I was in the keep him camp. For some reason I felt like he was one of those guys that needed like 5 years to figure it out. Kind of like Niko Mirotic for the Bulls will need. Had we gotten rid of him this spring and he put on this show we'd all have broken TV's.
