Players who failed when it counts/against the Twins
QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 08:48 AM) No, the guys playing the game failed us, and if a manager, hitting coach, or pitching coach had any significant role in it then it was the general manager who failed because his 25 man roster lacked balls and a spine. What if your manager lacks balls and a spine and likes to slurp your chief rival?

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 03:28 PM) Wasn't Asiata undrafted as well? Yikes.. Louis as a 7th rounder. Meanwhile we have made glorious picks in Bazuin, Okpo, Gilbert (though I still like him in a 3-4 defense) Melton (still has time), Wolfe, Dvoracek, Harriott, Currie, Joe, Iglesias, etc.. etc.. Asiata was undrafted and every team makes bad picks but it is absolutely mindboggling how much Angelo has ignored the OL.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 03:08 PM) I really agree with you. I've long been a huge proponent of drafting the lines. Angelo has done that with the dline, but ignored the line that protects your franchise player. It really is dispicable. I hope the Bears have some FA money to throw around because we already know we'll use at least 1 top pick on a lineman and probably 2. I'd be perfectly content if our 1st and 2nd round picks went oline and we signed a FA olineman. My only hope is that Tice can somehow develop Omilaye, Williams (Both of them), Asiatta, and Webb. They are all young and I'll see if they can somehow turn into something. Most of them are incredibly raw though. Oh and hopefully they won't kill Cutler, but I have a scary feeling Cutler's career will end this year (and it could just be the constant pressure that forces Cutler to go the way a once promising David Carr did). Omiyale will be turning 28 fairly soon and he is a god awful football player. There is really no hope for that guy. Chris Williams still has some potential although he has been terrible so far in his career and the injuries make me think he will never be a good offensive lineman. And then the we have Edwin Williams an undrafted free agent and Webb a 7th round pick. I would be shocked if those guys ever become starting caliber OL.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 02:56 PM) I swear, I'm blown away that after all those hits that he was taking the Bears didn't do something different? I hope Jay is ok. Has he spoke yet? Post game conference, anything? Bears doctors had to be mind-blowingly stupid. This means Jay played after a concussion and was sacked ~4 to 5 more times, including that shot to his head. Holy cripes. Frankly, when your Oline is playing that poorly there isn't much you can do. It isn't like they can run block worth a damn either. I strongly believe Angelo should be fired for putting that group of offensive lineman together. What a f***ing joke.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 11:38 AM) Jas, yeah, the O-Line deserves a lot of the blame, but its ALSO true that Cutler was not sticking to the game plan. He was trying to do too much, held onto the ball too long. The Martz-designed offense gives up blitz slots in exchange for a friendlier zone downfield - which means that the QB needs to get the ball off faster or go to the underneath dump. Cutler didn't do well at that at all, so he does deserve some part of the blame here. I believe that of the 10 sacks last night 8 were when the Giants rushed 4 or less people. They were dropping 7 into coverage and still getting pressure with only 4 when the Bears often had a TE or RB or both helping to block. 3 receivers, especially mediocre receivers like Hester, Bennett and Knox are going to struggle getting open against 7 guys.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 11:28 PM) Man everybody is ripping on Cutler for "holding onto the ball forever" but really 5 seconds isn't "forever." Only in this offense. I don't think people realize that deep drops, and the QB getting sacked are essentially part of Martz's offense its just that usually you have a competent line so the QB isn't getting pressured on each and every throw and the big plays his offense produces offset the sacks and negative plays.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 10:38 PM) That was the worst offensive line performance I've ever seen. And that's saying something. The sad thing is it isn't like they have a young line that has talented guys who are struggling. They just have a line full of terrible football players. The Bears have to use several picks on the OL this year in the draft. I'm not sure they have a single OL that is NFL starting caliber.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 10:27 PM) You need more than a few seconds to try that. Ask the previous two injured QBs. Oh I know, but that play does absolutely nothing to help you win the game. Keep 7 guys in to block send out 3 WRs and throw a jump ball for all I care.

Awesome throw for an 8 yard completion on 4th and 18. Throw the ball deep and hope your WR makes a play.

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 10:13 PM) fixed I would add Olsen to the Oline but there is nothing receivers, QBs or RBs can do if your oline plays like this.

Game officially over. Every member of the oline should give their paychecks back for this game.

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 10:10 PM) We need to draw like 5 roughing the punters in a row. Bears have like 5 first downs tonight? Yep and one of them was on the roughing the passer penalty where Collins was picked off.

LET'S MAKE A LIST - OCTOBER '10
QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 06:26 PM) VOTE EVERYONE - SHOULD I CHANGE IT TO ONLY HORROR MOVIES? FIVE YES VOTES AND I WILL CHANGE IT. Yes, with the caveat that I would define horror broadly to include movies like Alien and Jaws. Let people decide what their definition of horror is and if other people don't agree that movie won't show up. No big deal.

Todd Collins sucks. Seriously, how bad does Caleb Hanie have to be to not beat out a 38 year old with no arm who has started like 6 games since 1998.

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 09:51 PM) Bears really should go to Wildcat formation and just hope for a fluke play. If they could run block that wouldn't be a bad idea.

Also, it will be ignored because of the roughing the passer, but Collins first int on that drive is exactly why its generally not a good idea to throw when you know you are going to get hit.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 09:33 PM) This same line was fine last week for some reason. Cutler was sacked 3 times and hit 6 times and threw 27 passes, that isn't a good ratio. And the running backs only averaged about 3 yards a carry. The oline is an epic fail.
