QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 06:59 PM) Really? I think that as a Big Ten team the Illini should pretty much own every other team in Illinois on the football field with the exception (sometimes) of Northwestern. Illinois was as bad as any program in the country Turner's last couple of years and Zook's first couple of years. -

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 02:58 PM) Did I see the stat right that the football Cardinals had not won a playoff game since 1947 or was it they did not have a home game since 1947? That is epic if you ask me. They won a playoff game in 1998. -

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 01:48 PM) I went to the game last night, first one as an official Illini! Anywho, the rebounding was awful, but can easily be improved. So many times we had a big guy like Davis or Tisdale have a rebound, but another Illini would also be going for it, knocking the ball out of the original rebounder's hands and usually right into a Hawaii player. They just need to communicate better. Tisdale looked awful, no confidence and poor moves. Meachum, I cant wait for Legion to take your place. Semrau is a good defender/rebounder when you need him. Frazier was hot last night. McCamey is really streaky. Davis is unbelievable, he needs to get more looks. His shot within 10 feet of the hoop is amazing. Basically, I think the Illini need a playmaker, one who can open the offense up a bit more. We struggled early and often to get good shots, so we were stuck with alot of bad ones leading to a very poor shooting percentage. But the defense looked very good. They shot 49% from the floor and got a ton of easy looks. They struggled for the first 5 minutes and last 5 minutes and routinely torched Hawaii's D besides that. Right now you can basically tell how Tisdale will play within the first few possessions. If he makes a shot or does something positive he plays a good game. If he makes a mistake, misses a couple of shots he loses his confidence and has a terrible game. He has tremendous potential because he can be an outstanding offensive player but he is definitely a year away from having consistency. He obviously still needs to get much stronger in his base. I think his playing time is going to be very inconsistent this year, as you will have games like Kent St. and Georgia where he is terrific on offense and will get a ton of minutes and then other games like last night and Clemson where Semrau and Keller are going to get his minutes. And Keller is getting very close to really breaking out. His offensive game seems to be there now but he is just as bad as Tisdale on the defensive boards right now and is actually even worse with his post defense. With him it isn't about strength or athleticism obviously but I feel he still thinks he can overwhelm people with his athleticism like I'm sure he did in JUCO rather than getting in proper position on D and on the glass. -

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 12:26 AM) What is the Cubs all time winning % ? According to baseballreference dating back to 1876 the Cubs winning percentage is .514 which is actually higher than the Sox. I'm not motivated enough to look into what their record would be if you only took into account the modern era of baseball. -
Rumors: Sox/Reds Talking Dye for Bailey Swap

QUOTE (1399 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 11:40 AM) Everyone else? I doubt that. I know alot of Sox fans on other boards that feel the same way. Theres no right or wrong, it's just opinion is all. You havent seen his numbers declining over the past few years? Never said I was speaking for you... Im not a Sox fan if I wont miss JD? Thats even more absurd than what I said. I've been a Sox fan for over 30 years so dont make your self look stupid by saying such things. I dont have favorite players because in this day and age players almost never stay with the same team so I dont bother getting attatched because sooner or later they will be gone. I put the Sox first and foremost above any player that plays for them because the Sox will still be there long after players have gone and I will still be a fan regardless so in essence I am a bigger Sox fan than you now arent I. The team is called the Chicago White Sox, not the Chicago Dye's. So what you're saying is Dye is worth the 11M+ he will make because he drove in the game winning run 3 years ago? Please... This game is about what the players do for a team now, not what they did 3 years ago. I never said that Dye had'nt done good things. Dye was horrbile with RISP last year and has lost a few steps in the OF. Sure he still has the arm but he no longer has the legs to play a good RF. You cant have a middle of the order bat hitting .210 with RISP and 2 out or hitting .269 with less than two out. You mean to tell me those numbers are worth 11M+ per year? Thome, Paulie and Dye were the biggest reasons our offense was so inconsistent last year. If they werent hitting HR's they had a hell of a time driving runs in with simply getting a single. Since these guys were part of the problem, would'nt it make sense to get rid of a guy like Dye who is still worth something? Were already stuck with Paulie due to his contract and only have Thome for hopefully one more year so Dye is the player that needs to go in order to try and get more production from the middle of the order. Hell, if up to me all three would be traded. It's nice to reflect back on what he has done for the team but that was then and this is now. Time to move on and put Carlos in RF. I'm sure our inconsistent offense had nothing to do with the fact our 1 and 2 hitters sucked at getting on base. And if you are all about RISP you should love Thome considering he hit .304 and posted a 1.066 with RISP this year. Dye and Thome had awful Septembers but outside of Quentin they were the most productive hitters on the team last season. -

If the only reason for Bailey's declining stuff is a groin injury/minor injury and the Sox end up getting the Bailey of a couple of years ago this might not be a bad trade. But the Sox better be pretty sure about that because if his stuff doesn't return this is an awful trade. -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 11:38 PM) So you'd have an 8 team playoff, but Utah and/or Boise St aren't in? I didn't say automatic bids, I said in theory. If they are undefeated, you can't get them into an 8 team playoff? Now, I will say I don't think they always deserve a shot, but you can't have an 8 team playoff and always exclude an undefeated team from a smaller conference. It should go BCS top 8 and that's that. This year Utah's in, VTech at 19, absolutely not. A team with 4 losses should not be in an 8 team playoff. They should not even have the chance at a title. Major flaw in that system. Having Cincy in over Boise St. is questionable as well. This is why a standard BCS conferences +2 is not a good system at all. And that thought gets me back to how much a playoff could suck, and why the regular season is so awesome and meaningful. I would obviously be fine with the top 8 from the BCS as would all football fans. There is just no way the major conferences would agree to that and I would prefer the system I proposed to the current system. -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 11:11 PM) If we somehow end up with an 8 team playoff (I prefer a 4) and it's 6 BCS conferences plus 2 at large (which in theory go to the 'smaller' schools anyways), the setup is a complete waste and does more harm than good. The other 2 spots would go to the highest remaining ranked teams in the BCS standings. No automatic bids for the smaller schools. This year we would have USC, Cincy, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Penn St. and Virgina Tech. Now it isn't perfect, but it sure as hell would be better than the current system for determining a champion. -

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 06:16 PM) This playoff system makes the most sense (based on last weeks rankings): #1 Alabama vs. #8 Penn State (Sugar Bowl game on Jan. 2) #2 Oklahoma vs. #7 Texas Tech (Cotton Bowl game on Jan. 2) #3 Texas vs. #6 Utah (Capital One Bowl game on Jan. 1) #4 Florida vs. #5 USC (Rose Bowl game on Jan. 1) This would be followed by: #1 vs. #8 winner vs. #4 vs. #5 winner (Orange Bowl game on Jan. 10; 9 days later than actual schedule) #2 vs. #7 winner vs, #3 vs. #6 winner (Fiesta Bowl game on Jan. 10; 5 days later than actual schedule) Championship Game (Dolphin Stadium on Jan. 18; week later than actual schedule) I can't see anyway the major conferences (ACC, Big 10, SEC, Big 12, Pac 10) would agree to a playoff without being guaranteed one entry. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 11:26 PM) They'll lose earlier than people expect in March due to their lack of size, as is starting to become a tradition in Durham. I don't get why Coach K ignores bigs so much in recruiting these days. He has always favored having one true post with an athletic 4 who can stretch the court. The problem has been getting the stud center. When you have Brand or Shelden Williams you can get away with having a guy like Battier or currently Singler at the 4. I don't think he ignores big men, I think he just has a system where he feels he only needs a couple of true post players on his team. McRoberts while a good player didn't really pan out the way they hoped which hurt and Zoubek has not lived up to his ranking at all. He has a couple highly regarded PFs coming in next year btw. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 09:23 PM) Really, really bad loss for Illinois in the sense that they MUST win games like that one if they have plans to make the NCAA Tournament. Clemson is a good team, but Illinois can't lose that one. The ending was certainly inexcuseable, but Illinois can't win playing that poorly on defense and that is where the game was realistically lost. The Bruce Weber coached team tradition of not getting a good end of game shot continues though, although really it's more on the players when there isn't a shot taken at all. Wish somebody would've called that last timeout with 5 or 6 seconds left, it was clear that was going nowhere. And the Big 10 might have a shot this year since Jack McClinton handed them a win that otherwise doesn't happen. That last play was 100% on McCamey. He dogged it up the court and did a piss poor job using the screen because he didn't even run his man into it. Plus Meacham was wide open in the corner and he missed him. Then decides to pass it to Frazier with about a second left. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 29, 2008 -> 12:41 AM) Davis is starting to figure it out obviously. If Tisdale ever follows suit (and although in a different way, he has just as much raw talent as Davis IMO), that is a nasty duo to deal with on the front line. Combine that with McCamey and Legion, and that is certainly something right there in the Big 10 for the rest of this year before the calvary arrival the next 2 years, which would help even more going with those 4 current sophomores in the future. Tisdale saved the day today though, hopefully they take out Tulsa tomorrow. Tisdale just needs to get stronger. It is still too easy to take the ball from him but his offensive skill is tremendous. And when he plays with confidence like he did down the stretch he is a huge weapon. Plus he and Davis with their length and athleticism alter a lot of shots which is a nice to see. It has been a while since Illinois has had a shot blocking presence. -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Nov 28, 2008 -> 06:38 PM) Tried turning on the Illini game on for kicks since it's on fox college sports on comcast ch 413 through one of those sports packages...and it's on. Thanks to whoever did that. Illinois beats Kent St. in OT. Tisdale still makes plays that will drive you nuts but he was terrific down the stretch. Another really nice game by Davis as well. This team is so much more entertaining to watch than last year. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 28, 2008 -> 03:47 PM) These stories always suck. The school pays for it, even after they get rid of the problem. My take with regards to Indiana is that you can't hire a known cheater and then cry about the school being punished when he cheats. Schools absolutely should be punished for having a cheater even if he is fired. Otherwise there is no incentive for schools to monitor cheating.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 26, 2008 -> 03:34 PM) You are correct technically. However it's strange that Weis won with Willingham's players at a pretty good rate the first couple of years he was in South Bend, but now the last couple with his own players, he's been pretty bad. I agree, but the perception of people close to the program could very well be that based on Weis's on paper recruiting they are heading in the right direction. And they are fairly young although I really don't see the type of elite talent you would expect from such highly regarded classes outside of Floyd. Not firing Weis would certainly raise questions but I don't think it as simply as Willingham being black and Weis being white. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 26, 2008 -> 03:19 PM) If he's not, I think its pretty obvious that Willingham was fired for reasons other than his record. Well in fairness, Weis has recruited better than Willingham (on paper at least). Not saying he shouldn't be fired but that would be a difference between the two.
