COUNT DOWN TO CLINCHING THE ALC!
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Sep 4, 2005 -> 04:45 PM) Leading the ALC: Chicago 84 51 27 left Countdown to elimination in the ALC: 16 EN: Cleveland 75 61 14 EN: Minnesota 71 64 06 EN: Detroit 63 71 Kansas City ELIMINATED EN: Elimination Number = Combination of team's losses & Chicago wins How to calculate: Chicago gms left - diff in losses - 1 for any team that can't win the season series. H2H vs CLE 10-3, vs MIN 6-5, vs DET 11-3. Generally speaking H2H is the tie-breaker for teams with identical records in the division. The only exception is if the wild card team finishes with a better record than the best ALC teams. The EN for that scenario is 19. If that should happen then there would be a playoff amongst division contenders. Chicago needs 4 wins against MIN to insure they are the host in any scenario. Our magic number is actually 18 against the Indians(17 to tie). The Indians have 26 games left meaning they can win 101 games on the year. We would have to win 17 games to tie them if that was the case.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Sep 4, 2005 -> 04:11 PM) this could be the 3rd time garland shuts out the tigers this year... SHEER DOMINANCE! Its the second, the first outing against them, he went 8 innings and gave up one ER. Still very impressive though.

Films
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 4, 2005 -> 11:44 AM) Thank God I found a guinea pig for this film. I read reviews for it and my understanding was that it was a bunch of different comedians, each telling the SAME dirty joke. The joke has the same punch line each time of course. Supposedly what makes the film awesome, is each comic's build up and all the details before the punch line. That just didn't sound possible and thanks for confirming it. Here is a link to South Park's version of the joke with Cartman telling it. WARNING-Link is not work safe and is highly offensive Cartman tells the Aristocrats

The Ron Zook era is underway
QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Sep 3, 2005 -> 10:23 PM) For anyone following this team...today's game was more than 'just rutgers' Christ, no one claimed we're going to the Rose Bowl...but this was a big win for this program and this new era. It was a good victory and it was great to see the team not quit when they got down. As long as we are competitive this year I will be happy and hopefully starting with today Zook can turn the program around.

QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Sep 3, 2005 -> 08:35 PM) And just a thought, if you are 'too poor to leave', why can't you just walk away? I mean, what would you be leaving behind? And where would you like them to stay, what would you like them to eat.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 3, 2005 -> 07:59 PM) Boo Hafner. 2-1 Twins. Headed to the bottom of the 7th in Minnesota, Twins up 2-1. It would be nice to shave 2 games off the magic number tonight.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 08:12 PM) :rolly :rolly :rolly Kanye West is clueless. Never said he wasn't, I'm just getting ready for a lot of race discourse to take place in the next few days and weeks and there are a lot of people who feel the same way Kanye does. Is any one else concerned that with this sentiment being shared by many that race relations may sour in parts of the country?

Hurricane Katrina
Kanye West just said that President Bush doesn't care about black people on NBC's fundraiser. I think we are going to see a lot of comments along those lines in the next few days whether they are warranted or not.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 02:27 PM) And there it it. Thanks for being the first person to bring race into this Mike. You self-serving piece of s***. He might be one of the first big name to have mentioned race, but don't think that there aren't a lot of other people who are thinking the exact same thing.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 12:34 PM) Wait, lemme guess, he played hard ass again and is focusing on shooting down the looters instead of telling us the plan for getting people out, right? No, they showed him talking to victims and he did seem like he cared.

Hurricane Katrina
QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 12:11 PM) National Geographic had this one pegged a long time ago. FEMA had a hurricane hitting NO as one of the three biggest threats to our country back in 2001. The others were an earthquake in San Francisco and a terrorist attack in NYC. Two of the three have taken place since their report.

QUOTE(56789 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 07:47 PM) Still, i doubt he would deny it if he knew it was there. He probably has a s*** load of things to deal with and he never heard about it, or forgot about it. How do you forget about 15,000+ people? How do you not know about 15,000+ people when it is all over the news when it is your job to know? Incompetence

Three things I have learned this season...
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 06:20 PM) 3) Scott Podsednik is not very good. Now believe me, I love Pods, but he really has not been as good as we all made him out to be. He has one tool: speed. His speed is VERY VERY GOOD, but not great. No he hasn't, but his speed is almost as good as it comes when he is healthy.

how we learned to stop worrying and love fathom
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 12:37 AM) How's this for a prediction: The 2007 White Sox team is the year we're building towards, and this year happened as a fluke. While we've had a great season so far, I don't think this team has enough to win the World Series. However, our team in 2007 should give us another great chance at competing for the World Series. I tend to agree with this, but that is the exact same thing that was said during the 2000 season.
