QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 02:24 PM) Sounds like Mizzou is about to land Cuonzo Martin for an eye opening 3.5 per. This means either two things (or both): - The prices of coaches are inflated this hiring season due to a number of schools with money to spend (u of I, mizzou, nc st) - Mizzou way over spent on Martin, a good, solid, not spectacular hire now being paid like the best in the game. If that is the actual price that seems like a huge overreach in terms of money. I don't think Illinois was very interested in him and NC State certainly isn't. Plus Cuonzo seemed desperate to get out of Cal since he knows he is leaving a garbage roster in his wake next year. 2 NCAA tournaments in 9 years for 3.5 mil when he was worse than his predecessor at both Tennessee and Cal? Yikes.

This Bulls team is complete trash. Why shouldn't we have traded Butler for the two Nets pick if that was actually on the table again?

2017 Big 10 Tournament
People worry way too much about recruits leaving when there is a coaching change. First off Groce is f***ing horrendous and you aren't winning a damn thing with him anyways any one or two recruits don't change that. But in reality most kids don't leave after a coaching change anyways and if the next coach keeps Walker (should definitely be the new coach's decision but as AD you let them know) the signed guys almost certainly all stay and you have a great chance at landing Mark Smith too.

QUOTE (Boogua @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 10:40 AM) At this point I would probably be fine with either decision. Whitman seems to like Groce though and I don't think he'd fire him "no matter what" unless he had a big hire lined up (ala Lovie). I'm not fine with Groce staying even if they make the tourney but that is at least defensible. If they miss the tourney I'm done with Illinois basketball for a long time if Groce is brought back and the athletic department will have one less donor.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 01:46 PM) These are players who, while ineffective as starters, are fantastic bench players to come in and log effective minutes. Yep. Deron Williams in particular is just a huge upgrade for the Cavs. Their backup PG play has been horrendous this year and you now add a guy who is the best backup PG in the NBA (unless you count Mills but Mills is better than Parker at this point). That is a big deal.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 05:29 PM) Bulls had the misfortune of picking high in some historically awful drafts, but overall as you look back, Krause did about as good a job as you can of collecting valuable assets, he just could not swing them for a star. Ended up with jalen rose. The most annoying part is if he trades Jalen Rose and Donyell Marshall and doesn't let those guys win the Bulls some extra games in 2002-2003 you are looking at maybe getting LeBron, Bosh , Anthony or Wade in the 2003 draft instead of f***ing Kirk Hinrich.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 04:17 PM) One of Ball/Fultz/Smith and possibly DeAndre Ayton in '18? Yeah, you would need some lottery luck but I'd take that chance all day, everyday. You would likely have two top 5 picks in 2018 as well since the Bulls would be terrible next year without Butler.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 03:57 PM) No chance in hell I trade Butler for 2 picks only. That's insane. Give up a starting All-Star in his prime for 2 POTENTIAL players. Hard, hard, pass. This was your typical Bulls FO bulls*** non-move. Stay good enough to sell tickets but not good enough to compete, keep options open for some miracle that a max FA can be signed. You would be getting two top 4 picks. I'd do that without thinking twice. Butler is great but this franchise isn't winning a f***ing thing with him and you aren't getting more value than two top 4 picks for him. You certainly are better off doing that then acquiring the mediocre players that you usually accompany such a deal.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 03:34 PM) This is way over simplified. To me there is an obvious difference in player development abilities when you look around the NBA. What is it that the Spurs are able to do with guys drafted at the end of the first round, that a team like the Kings can't do with lottery pick after lottery pick? Thibs is another one who took some guys who had no business being good NBA players and turning them into one. Look at Jimmy Butler. Look at Taj. Taj isn't really a great example. He was a solid player from basically day 1 in the NBA. His improvement in the NBA wasn't very impressive actually.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 03:08 PM) The Bulls somehow managed to make me feel worse about our current situation. Now we have a somehow worse team around Jimmy. With a roster that isn't even improved for the future.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 03:03 PM) No...but at least you have them under control in future years (vs. Taj walking). I really don't mind Payne and Lauverigne can be a rotational guy, right? Morrow is just an older Doug. The pick I don't get...but I do think we needed to move Taj. I think we could have done better though. Morrow is complete trash, much worse player than McDermott. Lauvergne is a restricted free agent so he will have to be resigned.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 02:18 PM) I don't know much about Robertson..but how does a guy who shoots below 25% from 3 point range take over 2.6 threes per game. That is atrocious. That said, it is Doug, and Payne at least has some athleticism. I can't really fault the deal, but I have zero faith in the Bulls player development team maximizing the value of these guys. Teams basically don't guard him so those 3s are all incredibly wide open shots and he has to shoot sometimes or else you really can't even play him.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 01:44 PM) No he wouldn't. Butler would be their best player. The Pacers are going to take a return we should be taking for Jimmy. All around maybe but Thomas is a better offensive player and I want the ball in his hands.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 12:58 PM) When the 76ers don't get the mavs 1st rounder this year, it turns into a 2017 and 2018 second round pick. What a bad deal. That is just horrendous. I don't buy for a second that the best they could do was 2 2nd round picks and Justin Anderson.

Adrian WojnarowskiVerified account@WojVerticalNBA 29s29 seconds ago More Dallas center Andrew Bogut will go to the 76ers in the Noel trade too, league source tells @TheVertical. Interesting. I wonder if there is protection on that pick, Noel has been pretty damn good this year.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 05:13 PM) If the Lakers don't get a top 3 pick this year, they will be in a pretty sorry position as it would mean that they lose their pick this year and next year (both of which would likely be very high picks). I don't think that is right. I think if they are outside the top 3 this year they lose their pick this year to the 76ers and then their 2019 first round pick could end up going to Orlando (there is some protection on that though). If they are in the top 3 this year then Philly gets their pick next year unprotected.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 10:14 AM) It was their choice. They wanted nothing to do with IT2 and they released Whiteside. LOL. Can't really blame them on Whiteside. He was incredibly lazy and useless at that time and no other NBA team picked him up when he was released. He had to go overseas to play before the Heat gave him a shot a couple years later. The Kings deciding not to match a $7 mil per year deal for Thomas was completely asinine though. Just a terrible franchise.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Feb 20, 2017 -> 08:47 AM) Contract the Kings. That's abysmal. Probably 20 teams can top that easily, so I can't blame any single one for underestimating the stupidity of the Kings. One other thing I haven't really seen mentioned: Philly can swap picks with the Kings this year. Without Boogie, they're basically a D-League team. Even if they don't end up worse than Philly, it's like the Sixers get two solid shots at the top-3. The Kings should just hire Hinkie since they already did step 1. Absolutely stunning that is the deal they took for Cousins. The 76ers also own the Kings 2019 unprotected first round pick which it is hard to not see being a really high pick. If the Kings do end up winning the lottery and the 76ers get to swap the Kings will have given up that pick and the 2019 pick (plus Stauskas) to clear cap space to sign Rajon Rondo.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 19, 2017 -> 08:55 PM) Yeah, i'm done with the all-star game. What a terrible weekend all around. It isn't entertaining anymore. It used to be that the defensive effort was lax but that the teams would play harder as the game went on if it was close. And the defensive effort while bad was never as bad as this joke of a game. The last two years have been unwatchable.
