  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 01:37 PM) I get the feeling this will be a lot like the last Presidential election where a lot of people who won't admit to voting for Moore will do exactly that and Moore will outperform the polls. I'm not sure how much that really happened in the last election considering the national polls were accurate and it was a few states that were off by normal polling error. Alabama has a chance to show today that they aren't who we all think they are (I think they fail).
  2. QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 05:03 PM) I don’t understand what that tweet means? It is horribly written but I assume it means the most active the Sox will be is during the Rule V draft.
  3. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 01:29 PM) Is he as legit as everyone says? Been following the rumors for a couple of weeks but don't watch Ole Miss games. Wonder if Peters transfers if Shea can play right away. With the Auburn game as an exception he was pretty much a bum slayer who sucked against good teams this year. Ole Miss was also out gunned though so hard to have any real takeaways form that.
  4. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 01:50 PM) But the individual athletes can still compete? It will be like what happened at the world championships this year for track and field. If athletes meet certain standards they can compete. They will get to be there under the following criteria: https://www.olympic.org/news/ioc-suspends-r...he-olympic-flag I doubt you see many Russians meeting those standards in sports like cross country skiing, biathlon, etc. where cheating is the most adva
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 01:36 PM) Banned from their own Olympics. Damn. The Olympics are in Korea. They are banned based on their state sponsored doping program that they had in place for the Sochi Olympics. And good job by the IOC on this. It should have happened for the Rio games too but there is basically no doubt just about every Russian athlete is doping. While every country has individual athletes cheating, it is nothing like in Russia.
  6. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 01:19 PM) This is true. However, the voting power discussion is a poor comparison. They are basing it on how much a person dictates the decision of the state electoral college vote. This is true. A single person in Wyoming does influence the outcome for the state than a single person in California. However, California has 55 electoral votes and Wyoming has 3. So while a single person in Wyoming has more affect on the state vote, they have a far lesser affect on the election due to the vast difference in the electoral votes. The more populist states still have a greater affect on the election. You are looking at it the wrong way. Small rural states are over represented in the Senate and in the electoral college (much less over represented in the electoral college but the bias is there). California's population is about 12% of the USA's population. Their electoral votes represent a little over 10% of the electoral college. New York has about 6% of the country's population but only 5% of the electoral college votes. Wyoming's population is about .2% of the general population but it has about .55% of the electoral college votes and this trend holds for the lower populated states.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 3, 2017 -> 06:16 PM) USC certainly has an argument. What they’ve said is don’t lose more than one game. So start scheduling Mercer Bama played FSU and Fresno St. If FSU wouldn't have had Francois injured for season in that game Bama's non-conference probably is stronger than OSU or USC. What the committee is really saying is don't lose by 30+ against a mediocre at best team and it's really clear the committee didn't have any respect for Pac 12 this year.
  8. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 3, 2017 -> 12:19 PM) Alabama’s resume is actually garbage. It's not great but neither is OSU's. The Big 10 collectively beat no one this year. Not a single good non-conference win. You can easily make the case it's a bunch of paper tigers.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 2, 2017 -> 10:14 AM) I bet they wouldn't lose to Grambling. What the hell..... How long are you going to have to put up with Pastner? There is no upside with him as a coach and he isn't even recruiting that well at Georgia Tech.
  10. Coco is a great film. Not a high bar this year but easily the best animated movie of the year.
  11. QUOTE (Wanne @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 07:18 PM) Depends on where you're picking. If you're a lottery team...do you risk it? Hope the Bulls say no honestly if it got to that. I'd give my left nut for the Bulls to get Ayton! Absolutely. Other than Ayton, Doncic and Bagley I haven't seen anyone I would pass on Porter for even with injury. I'm betting on the potential star.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 03:30 PM) Embiid also missed two full seasons. That is what teams are trying to avoid. And looks like a superstar now. I guarantee the 76ers don't care that they passed on any of the mediocre players that went after him just because he missed two years. Teams aren't going to pass on Porter unless it is pretty clear the back injury will take away a lot of his athleticism.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 03:10 PM) Third rate coach, gtfo. s*** didn't hurt Jaylen Brown. Johnny Jones sure ruined Ben Simmons. Yeah, I don't think highly of Martin's coaching but he is much better than guys like Romar and Jones and it doesn't matter much for players of Porter's caliber. The real reason he should go pro is I'd bet heavily on him being a lotto pick still and there is way too much to lose and not enough to gain coming off a back injury.
  14. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 02:40 PM) Right. I can't imagine another year under a third rate coach is going to help his draft stock at all. I don't think the coach matters for a guy like Porter. The bigger issue is back injuries often are long term issues and if he has any flare ups next year you are no longer going to have teams being willing to take a flyer on you early.
  15. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 02:31 PM) If he is a top 5 pick he has to enter draft right away. Too much risk for not enough gain. Honestly, if he is a lottery pick he has to go pro still. There is way too much risk to going back to Missouri coming off a serious back injury if he is still going to be picked high.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 02:34 PM) True, but if he works out and people say he looks okay, you go. If not, poor kid. Basketball has those handful of cases where star loses their career to injury. But largely I like the sport because it's not debilitated by star injuries each year. Can't imagine the pain of losing it all right as it's about to begin. Agree with this, really sucks for Porter but I'm guessing as long as he looks ok in workouts he is still a top 10 pick. Sure he might not go top 3 but someone will take a chance on that talent early like the 76ers did with Embiid a few years back. I'm sure he will still do quite well for himself in the draft next year, he just won't be competing with Bagley, Ayton and Doncic for #1 but I bet he still goes right after those guys.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 11:02 AM) But that said this issue is one thing but really it's the horrendous guard play I can't take. The bulls strength is definitely their bigs but their entire offense seems to be their guards trying to do pull up 3s early in the shot clock. I haven't watched a ton this year because with Lavine out the only interesting Bulls player is Markkanen but the guard play is just painful to watch every time I do tune in. None of Valentine, Dunn, Holiday, Grant or Zipser have any offensive ability.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 13, 2017 -> 01:25 PM) It might take him a while to get in. He has the postseason moments, but he's way more of a longevity guy than all-time great. One top 5 MVP finish, only two top 10 finishes. He was never close to the best player in the league at any point. He was pretty damn close in 2006 (if he wasn't the best). He was easily better than Ryan Howard who won the MVP that year).
  19. Trubisky doesn't have anything to work with but his accuracy has been much worse than I expected so far.
  20. http://deadline.com/2017/11/star-wars-new-...edi-1202204843/ Rian Johnson (director of Episode VIII) is writing and directing a new Star Wars trilogy that is not connected to the main saga. I'm excited about this because I think he is talented and I'm happy they are expanding the universe outside of the main saga on film (Rogue One and the Han Solo movie are pretty damn connected to the main saga) and this also means that Disney/Lucasfilm are really happy with how Episode VIII turned out.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 6, 2017 -> 10:27 AM) The bulls may end up being watchable enough. Markkanen/Nwaba/Dunn/Lopez all do either exciting (first 2) or highly competent stuff (latter 2). But the long stretches of Holliday/Grant just taking early jump shots are brutal. Maybe Levine cuts down ont hat because he may be the only bulls player capable of going to rim. Kris Dunn has been absolutely dreadful so far. I'm not seeing anything competent out of him.
  22. That really f***ing sucks. He is so fun to watch and he looked like a superstar in the making. Just brutal.
  23. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 31, 2017 -> 11:02 AM) The Pats got a high 2nd round draft pick for a guy who was gonna be an unrestricted free agent and they had zero chance of re-signing or franchise tagging. If Jimmy G is a stud or Father Time catches up with Brady sooner, then it will look bad. But as of right now, I don't see how you can say they lost the trade already. Jimmy G is a question mark and Brady is cruising along. Agreed. If Brady really intends to play until 45 like he keeps saying and he actually stays healthy they weren't going to be able to keep Garoppolo long term anyways (and Garoppolo would be in his 30s at the time Brady was ready to retire).
  24. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 31, 2017 -> 10:52 AM) Pats lost this deal already. Everyone thinks everything the Pats does is gold but it really isn't true. Tom Brady covers up a lot. They have busted on some large FA signings and the Chandler Jones trade was no bueno. Eh, the Chandler Jones deal wasn't amazing but they were pretty certain they weren't going to be able to sign Jones after last season, still won the Super Bowl, Joe Thuney looks like he will be a really good starting guard for the Patriots for a long time and Macolm Mitchell was a decent WR as a rookie last year and had a good game in the Super Bowl.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 30, 2017 -> 10:40 AM) Hell Tom Brady didn't start at all in college, and look at him. He started his entire JR and SR years.
