  1. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Nov 24, 2016 -> 04:47 PM) This thread seems like a good place to put this article too. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2016-al-sta...act-management/ Snippets on our guys: You could make a decent case that Navarro/Avila's framing cost Sale the Cy Young. But I think the biggest victim was Rodon. He not only got screwed by poor framing/umping (22.7% of his pitches in the zone were called balls), but he also got pretty unlucky on groundballs and flyballs this year. He allowed an above-average HR/FB rate in 2016 even though his average exit velocity on flyballs (87.4 MPH) was the second lowest in the AL to Sabathia and only Hendricks and Carlos Martinez were lower in the NL. If it weren't for Navarro and some bad luck on homeruns, I really think we'd be talking about how much of a step forward Rodon took this year. He increased his strikeout rate, considerably dropped his walk rate, and showed a Quintana-like ability to throttle contact in the air, which is especially helpful in our home park. Rodon is gonna bust out into a top-tier pitcher in 2017. You heard it here first.
  2. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 24, 2016 -> 03:17 PM) As much as I love Benintendi, I'd probably go with a Bregman led package. Houston has a much deeper system IMO and could provide several high-end prospects in addition to Bregman. They also have much more interesting secondary pieces that can fill the back-end of a deal. I'm on the other end of the equation. Boston has 3 top 15 guys in Moncada/Benintendi/Devers. 2 more top 30-40 guys in Kopech and Groome. Tons of leftover former elite prospects as throw-ins with Swihart/Owens/Vazquez. If Boston offered me 2 of Moncada/Devers/Benintendi + Kopech or Groome as the 3 headliners, I'm taking it.....Bregman/Tucker/Reed would be close. Urias/Bellinger/De Leon as well. Devers has some of the best hit tool/power potential in the minors.
  3. QUOTE (striker @ Nov 24, 2016 -> 11:30 AM) It will be interesting to see what window of contention the Sox aim for based on their trades. The Ranger's prospects appear to be farther from the majors than what the Astros or Dodgers can offer. But that also aligns more with the talent in their pipeline I agree with that for secondary pieces. But Mazara could be your RF instantly, Mendez can be in your rotation right away, Ibanez your 2B right away, and Guzman will be ready with just a little more seasoning.
  4. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 24, 2016 -> 10:55 AM) Hmm well that's an interesting opinion. I'm not going to pretend to know anything about either of the Rangers guys, but based on rankings I have a feeling you are very very alone in that opinion. What makes you like those 2 so much out of curiosity? Have you seen them pitch or something? Don't take everything you see based off of only top 100 prospect rankings. We all know about Mazara. Andy Ibanez is one of the best 2B prospects. Mendez is one of the best LHP prospects. Cole Ragans and Alex Speas have arguably the highest ceiling arms in the Rangers farm. Matuella was in the running for 1st pick overall pre-TJS. As mentioned Taveras has phenomenal tools and ceiling. Ronald Guzman was signed along with Mazara as the top two 16 year olds for huge bonuses a few years ago. While Guzman isn't a slam dunk he's improved greatly over the years and mashed 16 HR this year between AA and AAA. More of a hit tool guy with developing power. Just based off of numbers, Jurado should be a solid innng eater, which is super useful. Payano is hugely underrated at this point. He put up a 2.08 ERA with 82K and 29 BB in 73.2 innings in A-ball, with 3 good offerings including a fastball that touches the mid 90s (according to MLB pipeline).
  5. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 24, 2016 -> 10:00 AM) Texas doesn't have enough to trade to seriously compete with these other teams. They've traded away a lot of prospects in recent years. Gallo and Profar should only have so much value so they don't work as headliners. It would have to be something like Mazara, Gallo, Profar, and Yohander Mendez to beat out a Dodgers, Astros, or Red Sox offer. And I can't see them logically trading those 3 guys they need on offense for 1 pitcher, regardless of how great Sale is. I gotta disagree personally. If they offered 6 or 7 guys, even excluding nasty Gallo or Profar who only has 3 years of control left, they could get it done for sure. - Nomar Mazara - Yohander Mendez - Andy Ibanez - Ronald Guzman - Cole Ragans - Michael Matuella - Michael De Leon - Ariel Jurado - Pedro Payano - Jose Trevino - Leody Tavares - Alex Speas I like the pair of Jurado and Payano better than Mates and Paulino from the Astros.
  6. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Nov 24, 2016 -> 01:33 AM) http://www.astrosfuture.com/2016/06/garret...ching-prospect/ Thanks man. Intriguing...Johnny Bench award/Pac 12 DPOTY. Has produced solidly for a catcher thus far.
  7. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 24, 2016 -> 01:12 AM) My dream trade with the Astros is Sale for Bregman, Reed, Tucker, Paulino, & Stubbs. That would be an absolute haul IMO, alllowing us to fill three holes (2B, 1B, & SP) immediately and potentially have CF & C solutions down the road. You got any info on Stubbs you can share? I keep hearing his name mentioned in potential Astros packages.
  8. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Nov 24, 2016 -> 01:00 AM) Yeah, his track record in the minors is such that I would love to take a bite on him as a rebuilding team. But again, it really depends on how the Astros view him. Would need an insider or industry source to shed light on that since it's hard to know just by going off his wildly disagreeing numbers. Word on the street is that they're looking at 1B/DH options like Napoli and Beltran.
  9. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Nov 24, 2016 -> 12:44 AM) AJ Reed would be a interesting buy-low candidate. I wonder how they value him at this point. Absolutely. The guy's put up absolute monster numbers in the minors without too absurd of a K rate, considering the power.
  10. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 11:55 PM) Bregman, Devenski, Martes and Kyle Tucker for Sale. Remove Devenski for Musgrove and add in AJ Reed, and I'd pull the trigger right now. Huge ask, but you have to ask the sky for a player like Sale.
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 11:04 PM) I don't disagree with what you're saying, but Walker has accomplished basically nothing. He obviously has a huge ceiling, but right now it doesn't look he's going to reach it. It's very possible they're selling high on Walker. He's only 24. Development isn't a linear thing. He just came off a season with an 8.0 K/9 and a 2.5 BB/9. The peripherals look good.
  12. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 10:54 PM) Some good, some bad. But they don't seem like Sox moves at all to me. . The outfield they have set up is absolute trash. Their 1B situation is set up as a damn Richie Schaffer/Dan Vogelbach platoon. Trading controllable youth for an inconsistent player in Segura who, by the way, expires in 2 years? Super Sox move. See: the Frazier trade and the Samardjiza trade.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 10:52 PM) They're about in the position of the 2012 white sox, except they have more resources to add stuff other than Keppinger. It could work....if Cano, Hernandez, and Cruz don't turn into Konerko and company and get old. Could. They'll be lucky to make the playoffs with Houston and Texas in the West.
  14. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 10:42 PM) Jerry DiPoto makes a lot of interesting trades. Walker may or may not develop further, but he's a decent #4 right now. Arizona will do at least okay. Interestingly bad, in my opinion. Lots of moves like the Sox have been known to make in the past (hopefully). They're definitely trying to win in 2017 and 2018 at any cost.
  15. I'd also like to add that SS is a defensive-first position. According to Fangraphs, Tim had a 10.8 DWAR in the majors at SS. Whereas Bregman had a -1.2 DWAR mostly elsewhere.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 09:50 PM) Yeah, that is not being disputed. What excites you more, your SS doing that or your LF? You're acting like we'd be paying a premium getting Bregman in a Sale deal because he was drafted as SS, when in reality Houston is paying the premium for Sale having to include Bregman. We'd be getting Bregman plus at least 4 other players. Not just Bregman. Why does he have to be a LF or SS for you? He played mostly 3B in the majors. Frazier will likely get moved if we blow this up. Why can't Bregman play 3B or 2B? Or better yet SS, 3B, 2B, AND LF? See: Kris Bryant, your versatile 2016 NL MVP. Versatility is extremely valuable.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 09:41 PM) Sure, if he can play up the middle, great. But I just don't want to pay for his bat at ss only to then slot him at a non-premium defensive position. Between 80 games in AA and AAA in 2016 Bregman slashed .306/.406/.580 with 20 HR. That doesn't just profile at SS. That profiles anywhere.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 09:18 PM) Then it makes no sense to pay a premium for a ss prospect, only to put him in f***ing left field. I'm willing to bet Bregman would also be able to adjust to 2B, another premium position, given his versatility. The only other premium position centerpiece we may be able to get would be Benintendi... a natural CF who played LF in Boston this year. We need elite bats, regardless of position.
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 09:14 PM) You certainly cannot fault them if this is the ask though. Personally, and I raised this in another thread, with Bregman, it depends on what the Sox want to do with Anderson. It makes little sense for them to trade for him only to put him at 3b. Can Anderson play 2b? And what does that do to his value? Why does Tim have to move? He showed some phenomenal tools at SS and better than expected defense at the position. Bregman has already proven his versatility at SS, 3B, and LF.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 08:41 PM) Chris Sale? I also heard Springer's name connected to the Yankees in McCann talks.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 07:42 PM) If Springer was a Gold Glove caliber CFer, or the equivalent of Heyward on the corners...it would be Springer and a tier B prospect for Sale (because Sale will actually be cheaper). Of course, Springer isn't that type of defender. But getting both Bregman and Springer for Sale is probably unrealistic...that's where you have to throw in another player like Frazier or Jones and go after guys like high ceiling but 2-3 years from the big leagues prospects like Tucker/Cameron. Wasn't Springer the 3rd candidate in the running for AL RF Gold Glove this year with Betts and Eaton? I'm pretty certain he's an above average defender.
  22. QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 06:48 PM) If they execute things right, becoming a contender won't take 5 years. They have more assets going for them to aid in rebuilding than any team I can think of recently. No, but by the time they'd be good again, Springer would only have 1 or 2 years of control left. Kind of goofy to grab him unless they planned on flipping him this summer/next offseason for a Shelby Miller-esque package. Or unless they plan on doing a half rebuild, which seems fairly likely under this ownership and management.
  23. QUOTE (Soxnfins @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 05:18 PM) Screw it, if they want to rebuild on the fly and not do a total overhaul, why not try for Bregman AND Springer, maybe someone like Daz Cameron as a third piece.... I'd be perfectly ok with that deal. May not live up to people's standards or expectations, but I'd be very excited to watch the Sox next year. I have a feeling if we deal with HOU, we end up with Springer. Been saying it all along and just have a gut feeling. I'm really curious why Houston seems so eager to move Springer. He seemingly fits in well in that clubhouse and fits perfectly on paper with Correa, Altuve, ect.
  24. QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 03:47 PM) What I'd want In return? Give me: Bregman, AJ Reed as a start. Kyle Tucker. David Paulino If I'm Hahn, it needs to center around Bregman/Tucker/Reed. 3 high ceiling bats with top prospect pedigree.
  25. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 02:11 PM) I agree with last paragraph (Cardinals believe in this) but Rizzo and Bryant didn't play together in minors and I don't think Baez and Russell did either. Point is that they're very young men who formed strong bonds while winning together. Growing together as people and players at any level.
