Walking Tall (1973). Don't see the one with the Rock because it sucks balls. At least this one sticks a bit more to the original story of Sheriff Buford Pusser about whom the movie is based. It wasn't a great film but definitely better than some of the pantloads put out in theaters now. 6/10

I just finished "Throne of Blood" by one of the cinematic masters, Akira Kurosawa. If you're a fan of Shakespeare, then you'll enjoy this movie even more. It is the plot of Macbeth put into feudal Japan. Toshiro Mifune brings home another awesome portrayal of Taketori Washizu. So f***ing awesome.

Introduction to Teaching in a Diverse Middle School Introduction to Special Education Introduction to Sociocultural Anthropology Content Area of Instruction (a.k.a. How to Work Word, Powerpoint, etc. -- mandatory class) Early Adolescent Development Social Research Method I hate just about all my classes this semester. The only one that seems remotely interesting is my anthropology class -- the rest are mandatory education classes that we need to take and I have yet to learn one thing that I did not know in these classes. For f***'s sake, my sociology class spent 40 minutes on "Do you know what a dependent variable is?" and it's a high 300 level class.

Interesting night of movies coming up: Throne of Blood, Ikiru and Walking Tall (the old one not starring the Rock)...

I dunno how much validity it is to it -- I overheard it and assumed.

Scary thing is ::cracks out the way back machine:: that when the Texas legislature was criminalizing sodomy, during the same legislative session they legalized beastiality. So, during that time f***ing dogs was legal.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 23, 2005 -> 11:20 AM) Oh, there's plenty of s*** a conservative can be truly outraged about without having to "feign" it. I think he's speaking about the Falwells, the Robertsons, the James Kennedys etc. that see the removal of a 10 Commandments statue from a courthouse as the equivalent of Roman centurions feeding Christians to the lions. -
And Dr. James Kennedy, IIRC, he was the guy who spearheaded the 1980s movements to stop spring break in parts of Florida. Plus, Kennedy is a huge Moonie -- and one would figure that his Moonie support would be odd as a fundamentalist Christian since Moon thinks of himself as the 2nd coming of Christ and wants churches to take down the cross in his honor.

QUOTE(CrimsonWeltall @ Jan 22, 2005 -> 03:39 PM) This article is about a proposed law against "virtual" child pornography. It could prosecute people who made pornography which "seems" like it features minors, even if it doesn't. So basically any porn which features women which look young or fake, animated pornography which has characters which look underage. The article is NOT about actual child pornography. It also features this sentence: According to William Donohue, president of the Catholic League, the ACLU has called pornographic material featuring children "wholly protected by the First Amendment." Of course anyone can go to the ACLU's website and see that the ACLU does not say any such thing. NOT GAME. This article is not about child pornography either. It is about a convicted child molester being banned from all city parks. The ICLU argued that it was unfair to ban a child molester if they do not also ban rapists and murderers. NOT SET. Again, not about child pornography. This article is about the famous -and usually misrepresented- case about the ACLU and NAMBLA. After their son was killed by 2 men, the parents sued NAMBLA being NAMBLA "gave the murderers courage" because they had visited the NAMBLA website. The ACLU argued that this was shifting personal responsibility from the people who actually committed the crime to a third party. NOT MATCH. Care to try again? Perhaps this time with a news site or at least a site with some credibility?

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 22, 2005 -> 01:05 PM) You obviously didn't hear the man himself speak out on TV last night, you just read the whitewash the NYT published but I don't expect you to listen or care when even one of your own sees this organization for what it is. Mr. Meyers himself said he was about to be kicked out, Meyers himself said he had a major disagreement with the ACLU board and not just over administrative stuff either. Dont take his words and try to make them mine. As I've proven in my earlier post, the ACLU is all about individual freedoms alright. The freedom to be a child pornographer, the freedom to say whatever kind of vile crap you want over the airwaves regardless of how offensive it is, the feeedom to do any and everything save for even hint that you are somewhat religous. If you are they're coming with their lawsuit hammer. Speaking of oversensitive whiners, Nuke...meet kettle. Cuz I know I want government telling me what I can and can't see, can and can't listen to on TV, on CDs etc. Don't you wanna be at a concert and see John Ashcroft sitting next to you? f***, we might be out til 10:30 tonight! If a person wants to put a crucifix, a giant cross with a Jesus being crucified, a 2 ton 10 Commandments monument ON THEIR PROPERTY, they are more than welcome to do so. However, they cannot and should be able to put it in public buildings run by the state because that leads to the endless controls of having to put up the Pillars of Islam, the 4 Noble Truths of Buddhism, the tenets of the Church of Spongebob Squarepants, etc. etc. etc.

I just remember the Family Guy bit where Quagmire was talking about how hot they are and the look on his face after they told him Hanson was an all guy band.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jan 22, 2005 -> 12:10 PM) Can somebody....anybody...please explain to me that Larry The Cableguy crap to me? Please? That friggin' "Git her done" crap is stupid. Everybody I talk to says that it is his catchphrase, like Martin's "Excuse me", but Martin used it in context. This friggin' moron drops it whenever he feels like it, and the place goes crazy. "So I was eating a donut...GIT 'ER DONE!" and the place goes crazy. :banghead Man, that guy just sucks. Foxworthy has been running a joke almost as long as Gallagher, but atleast Gallagher runs some funny observations at times, and if you are in the first few roads you might get some dinner out of it. The other guys on that Redneck extravaganza seem O.K., and I laughed at a few bits that they did. But that Larry guy, good Lord, that just ain't right. Can we exhume Bill Hicks? Even in his present state I am sure he would be a hell of a lot better than these friggin' idiots. I find Larry's "Toddler Mail" and some of his metaphors moderately amusing. He's not one of the comedy greats but he can be moderately amusing at times.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 22, 2005 -> 12:02 PM) I just can't take that "...you might be a redneck" garbage, that's why Foxworthy is so low on my scale. White and Engvall are actually fairly funny. Gotta hand it to Foxworthy, he's cruised into millions with different variations of a 1 liners. He's like the new Gallagher. I just keep thinking of the Bill Hicks bit about Gallagher on the world tour in Somalia. http://www.oregonlive.com/entertainment/or...18897984021.xml -- Gallagher whining that he is the 100th best comedian of all time according to Comedy Central since he believes that Leno, Letterman and the others on the list are no-names. And I'm pretty sure he calls his smashing fruit with a mallet "heroic or moral" in a roundabout way.. The Blue Collar Comedy team are no Kinison, Hicks, or Pryor but then again...who is?

QUOTE(Goldmember @ Jan 22, 2005 -> 10:42 AM) saw it a couple weeks ago. extremely funny. bill engvall is coming to uis in a couple months, thinking about going... UIUC has Ron White playing in April too. for the Blue Collar Comedy Tour

Nuke -- prominent sociologists have looked back at the Vietnam war and can find not one published case of an anti-war protester spitting on a soldier. All their research that could be uncovered actually showed most of the belligerance coming at the hands of people who attacked anti-war protesters. Jerry Lembcke published "The Spitting Image: Myth, Media and the Legacy of Viet Nam." In all the research done, there were ZERO cases of soldiers being spit upon. And Nuke, there is historical precedent for not having a lavish party during war time. Just because they raked in $40 mil doesn't mean that it all has to go to his party. I'm sure the donators wouldn't mind that their money assisted the war effort since the GOP has a monopoly on support of the troops.

Absolutely hilarious video of the Bush Whoring Network (FOX News) whining about critics of the inauguration... http://www.ifilm.com/ifilmdetail/2663486?htv=12 $40 mil for an inauguration when we got troops without adequate supplies in the war -- she's got a point. Sorry if I threadjack, just saw an inauguration thread and didn't wanna make a new one.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 08:16 PM) Not the point at all. Last week you people spent an entire evening lecturing me about what a great champion of free speech the ACLU is but now, it seems, that one of their own board members can't speak his own mind and dare to not tow the party line without getting himself in hot water. Of course that's alright with you guys though. Hypocrites is what they are. Nuke, its one member whining and instead of redressing the grievances to the ACLU, he ran to the media and whined like a 5 year old. But I guess that the facts, logic etc. of the event aren't getting to this guy. Everybody else is saying its a minor dispute but he's out yelling and screaming like a buffoon. Can we say "15 minutes of fame"?

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 08:08 PM) So now you're trying to justify it. It's hyprocasy on the highest order but since other people do it too it must be just fine. What temerity on my part for bringing this to light on here. LOL! No Nuke. I'm saying that to proclaim that O'Reilly is some sort of bastion of righteousness is bulls*** -- just as dropping MOAB's is "compassionate conservatism". The fact that you tear things into "sides" is an act of partisan hackery. I remember during the election, you were one of the ones trumpeting the fact that Bush was God and everything against him was just lies etc. while everything that came out against Kerry was somehow valid. They were both softheaded, incompetent, moronic boobs that deserve to be beaten to death with woks. If you're gonna whine about one side pulling s***, then do it for both sides when they are in the wrong. Gay marriage amendment? Cabinet position of Homeland Security? Increased drug war? Etc. -- Sure sounds like a conservative less government program set-up to me!

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 07:56 PM) Or maybe he's angry about the hypocrasy of the organization he works for. And there's no hypocricy in the Bushie administration or the Republican party in general. Quit being such a partisan hack, its quite tiresome. There's bulls*** on all sides. I just love hearing O'Reilly rail on and on about the rich media elite while not talking about the 6-7 figures that he's pulling down every year or the fact that he had to pay out the ass (no pun intended) for sexually harassing a woman. Christians, the most persecuted group in America I mean they sure read their Bible, right? "Beware of practicing your piety before men in order to be seen by them; for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. Thus, when you give alms, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you." (Matthew 6:1-6

http://www.iht.com/articles/2005/01/20/news/zhao.html The purged Communist in China that advocated against the use of force at Tienamen died and the government finally decided to allow for a memorial service for him (since he had been under house arrest)
