  1. God f***ing damnit. Everybody complained that we needed a good starter. So KW trades for Garcia and everybody whines like somebody shat in their corn flakes that we had to give up a catcher who couldn't hit RHP and had trouble calling games. Now we're signing a 5th starter and the Chicken Littles have come out again in force yelling about how we need $80 million payrolls and how Orlando is terrible yadda yadda. It seems like KW can do nothing right for some people. And ISF, we get the idea. Reinsdorf is cheap. We know. But baseball is a business. It's not necessarily about putting the best team that money can buy on the field but rather about making money for the owners. And if you want an $80 mil payroll, might I suggest you try to buy the team?
  2. According to his agent, as I saw on Rotoworld, the reason he didn't report was because he was on vacation and didn't wanna come from his vacation early to report for a physical.
  3. Just finished watching "Shaun of the Dead". f***ing hilarious. If you're a fan of zombie movies, especially Romero's zombie films, this movie is absolutely great.
  4. Hernandez, coming off shoulder surgery in May 2003, won his first eight decisions after rejoining the Yankees at mid-season, but he lost his final two and has been bothered by what he calls a "dead arm." Manager Joe Torre had considered starting Hernandez for Game 4, but went with struggling right-hander Javier Vazquez instead. Asked if he could be ready to start if the Yankees advanced to the ALCS against the Boston Red Sox, Hernandez said he didn't know. "I don't have any pain, I just have to continue getting treatment and have faith," he said. --- If he's still got a case of the dead arm, then that may be a bad sign.
  5. Watch "The Seven Samurai" -- it's a Japanese film that doesn't have "abnormal superhero s***" and it's f***ing good.
  6. And in a move that does not need its own thread, Joe "Sox Killer" Randa is now on the Reds...1 yr./2.15 mil deal.
  7. Hero was great. Then again, I watched it with a guy who is majoring in film studies so I got all the background about it and stuff while watching, haha.
  8. He's funny at times depending on the character that he was, especially parodying GW on SNL...but most of his stuff is pretty bad.
  9. It was pretty good. I'd say better than average since the storyline is cool. I'm just biased cuz I absolutely love the cinematics of the opening scene with the flower society in the 1962 version that they do not reproduce in the new one.
  10. The 1962 version of The Manchurian Candidate is a lot better than the new one with Denzel Washington [seen them both]
  11. I just got done watching the 2004 version of the Punisher. I'm a big fan of the Punisher comic book so I'm a bit biased. I like the way they incorporated a lot of the stuff from Garth Ennis's writing in the title but damn, it was a bit too campy for me at times. Could have and should have been a bit darker for my liking and some of the dialog, especially between the girl and Frank Castle, was pretty bad. But it made up for it with a lot of good action sequences.
  12. Haha, depends on the week. Sometimes it's a lot and sometimes not so much due to school, etc. But usually like 8 hrs on average.
  13. Captive bolt stunning is quite common. The cow is tied to a conveyor belt type device and a rod is shot through the skull [well, it's attempted because it doesn't often work since the animal is not stationary]. Ritual slaughter animals are fully conscious when their carotid arteries are cut. This is supposed to cause unconsciousness within seconds, but because of blood flow through the vertebral arteries in the back of the neck, some animals can remain conscious as they bleed for up to a minute. Additionally, Temple Grandin, PhD notes "Unfortunately, there are some plants which use cruel methods of restraint such as hanging live animals upside down. This can cause broken bones as the heavy animal hangs by a chain attached to one leg. Ritual slaughter Animals are fully conscious when their carotid arteries are cut. 14. Every time I see stuff about SUVs, I always think about the expose that showed senior auto industry execs characterize SUV drivers as "insecure and vain... nervous about their marriages... self-centered and self-absorbed, with little interest in their neighbors or communities." The auto industry really holds SUV drivers in contempt with the less than flattering profile of them that they developed.
  15. Since the thread hasn't been here in a while and I'm too lazy to go look it back up...Given the free time with the holidays, what books are being read by everybody here? I'm reading "A Republic, Not an Empire" by Pat Buchanan, "America the Book" by the Daily Show, "A Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley, "Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72" by Hunter Thompson and "Chain of Command: The Road from 9/11 to Abu Ghraib" by Seymour Hersh.
  16. If you like Hero, you should see House of Flying Daggers. Absolutely amazing.
  17. Mulder to St. Louis The Big Three is now down to one. ESPN's Peter Gammons reports A's ace Mark Mulder has been traded to the Cardinals for pitchers Danny Haren, Kiko Calero and catcher Daric Barton. Earlier in the week, Oakland sent Tim Hudson to Atlanta.
  18. I guess he must have scored really high on those 'sense of humor' polls we're always hearing women say being important.
  19. So you admit Bush does a lot of things wrong yet you still support him. How long until he gets so incompetent to not get support from you?
  20. Shouldn't that be "edjukayshun" wino?
  21. I wasn't lumping you in there, just the moralist morons who try to say that anything violent movie/video game wise has to be banned etc. But they never ban movies like the Passion.
  22. If people talk about seeing violent movies/video games and those having a detrimental affect on the growth of children and they will obviously follow the old adage "Monkey see, Monkey do." did anybody notice that they never mention movies like "The Passion of the Christ" -- some kids I know saw it and nobody went out trying to crucify Jews.
  23. He modified the part Ashlee will play in an upcoming movie, "Wannabe." In the original script, Ashlee's character was gay. "I changed it," Simpson says. "It doesn't work for her to be gay the first thing out. She said, 'But it's cool, it's edgy, it's different,' and of course the filmmakers were like, 'It's cool for a woman to be a lesbian,' and I'm like, 'That's true, but not her first role.' Now, it's wrong for his daughter to play a lesbian in her first movie role but right for him to talk about how great his other daughter's breasts are?
  24. Like the Onion stated: With the Boston win, it's refreshing to know that you don't need the highest payroll in baseball to win the World Series...just the second highest.
