And Kap, here's a link to an article with good ideas as what to do now that we're in this mess: http://antiwar.com/justin/?articleid=2911

Kap...there are a few things the US (more Bush and the neo-cons) could have done re: the Iraq war. 1. Don't use faulty intelligence. When you're paying (and still paying) hundreds of millions of dollars to a known embezzler and a group who has been discredited a lot in the past, don't make that the crux of your argument because the value of the intel probably isn't all too great. Story on that: http://www.commondreams.org/headlines04/0222-04.htm 2. Don't bulls*** America on WMD threats. WMD are a serious thing. I mean, look what happened with Aun Shinrikyo in Tokyo a few years ago with the sarin. In the UN speech that Powell gave, it ended up being plagiarized from 1991 graduate school work (Downing Street and the UK have admitted to that blunder). In fact, the morning of the speech Powell declared that he would not read the report to the UN and that it was "bulls***". Story on that: http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,2763,968581,00.html Instead, if you want to invade because he's a ruthless dictator, build your case on human rights abuses. Granted, I don't know how much weight the US would have on that because we gave Saddam most of the weapons that he used to slaughter his own people and create his iron grip on Iraq. (According to PBS, during the 1960s, the CIA was heavily involved with Saddam and putting him in power. The CIA even helped him eliminate enemies to him coming to power. The case for human rights abuses, however, doesn't carry as much weight with the American public and they would not be too apt to send our troops over there for that. Story on US weapons sold to Iraq: http://www.progressive.org/0901/anth0498.html Story on Neo-Cons saying WMD's were just the reason they thought everyone could agree upon to get behind the war: http://writ.news.findlaw.com/dean/20030606.html 3. Don't give no compete contracts to a company whom the VP used to head. It's more than a bit suspicious that the company whom Cheney headed gets all these sweetheart deals *cough crony capitalism cough* I find it interesting that Cheney still draws a salary from the company as well. Stories on Halliburton in Iraq: http://writ.news.findlaw.com/dean/20030606.html http://www.sunherald.com/mld/sunherald/new...ics/8726376.htm http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2004/05/20/....html?from=top5 4. CIA tried planting WMD and were busted Story: http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/?page=story_12-8-2003_pg1_9 That's what I came up with off the top of my head...more to come later.

LOL! Dammit Critic, here I am eating breakfast and now I laughed so damn hard I spit f***ing orange juice all over myself.

I was thinking of the fact that outside of Eddie George, Williams had the worst yards per carry of all the 1000 yard rushers last season. The perception of Williams as an elite back improves his over-ratedness. He is a good, but no longer elite back.

Watching the Flubs game on TV and MLB decreed that Wood still owes 5 games for the suspension they served him with before he went on the DL. So...Zambrano, Hawkins and Wood all owe suspensions to Major League Baseball...hahahaha.

Moore is good at bringing up vast points to be looked into in a light that is usually comedic or satirical (i.e. going after the huge corporate campaign contributions in Congress by hiring a pimp to try to get his DNC and RNC ho's back in line, haha) For that, he is good. He gets people talking about an issue. 9/11 was a huge failure. At the time we had 2x the amount of agents working on the War on Drugs than on preventing terrorism. Both parties helped to plant the seeds that culminated in 9/11 as can be seen in books like "Killing Hope" which is one of THE books on the subject of US foreign policy actions in countries. (The author is a former advisor in the State Department too...) In 1993, the FBI and US government had an informant that built the bomb used. (FBI tapes, both audio and video, show the FBI providing the Egyptian man with the materials to build it in an attempt to infiltrate AQ) They let the bomb detonate and kill people. The only reason it didn't take down the building was because the bomb was placed away from the structural supports. Ralph McGehee outed the CIA for being just an arm of the Presidency to gather evidence for whatever the Prez wants to do in his book "Deadly Deceits: My 25 Years in the CIA". http://antiwar.com/ewens/?articleid=3072 is a good article about the movie Moore should have made to chronicle the move from 9/11 to the Iraq war.

Heh, I've been working 54 hr. work weeks. I got time off because my doctor said I have acute right arm tendonitis from work and should rest/ice my arm until Saturday. Goddamn, it's annoying when I move the arm the wrong way because it's sore as f***...and you can actually hear the muscle/tendon moving when it moves.

I'd ask FlaSoxxJim. He's pretty up on this sort of stuff.

I think the key factor is that it used to be on the Wide World of Sports all the time, Jas.

http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentSe...ol=970081593064 From the article... Delgado spoke out against the U.S. invasion of Iraq in a Star story on July 3, saying he refuses to stand outside the dugout for the playing of "God Bless America." The story was about Delgado's work on the Puerto Rican island of Vieques, where activists successfully ousted the U.S. Navy last year after six decades of weapons testing there. -snip- What Delgado told the Star was: "I never stay outside for `God Bless America'. I actually don't think people have noticed it. I don't (stand) because I don't believe it's right. I don't believe in the war." He added: "It's a very terrible thing that happened on Sept. 11. It's (also) a terrible thing that happened in Afghanistan and Iraq. I just feel so sad for the families that lost relatives and loved ones in the war. "But I think it's the stupidest war ever. Who are you fighting against? You're just getting ambushed now. We have more people dead now after the war than during the war. You've been looking for weapons of mass destruction. Where are they at? You've been looking for over a year. Can't find them. I don't support that. I don't support what they do. It's just stupid."

Haha, antiwar.com is calling this "Trousergate". Democrat John Kerry's presidential campaign accused the Bush White House on Wednesday of disclosing the existence of a criminal investigation against former national security adviser Sandy Berger for political advantage. The objective of such a leak, the Kerry campaign said in a political memo distributed by email, was to take attention away from a report to be issued on Thursday by the commission investigating the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. That's from a Reuters news report on the topic. I'm not saying I doubt the claims against Berger because there is a very good possibility of it, I'm just saying that the timing of this coming out is interesting to say the least.

www.antiwar.com They have a link to tons of news agencies on there.

Jas, I saw the Berger story on the newswire of antiwar.com (one of the best breaking news newswires ever, I might add)

White House: Reefer Madness Could Be Reality
LowerCaseRepublican replied to LowerCaseRepublican's topic in SLaM
Inconclusive, believes, could, perhaps...I don't think there was one qualifying factual statement in there at all. And Hammerhead...that reminds me of the Bill Hicks bit where he's like "I see all these 'this egg is your brain' commercials on TV. I've been f***ed up on drugs and never seen a brain look like an egg. Maybe I wasn't getting good s***. I admit it. I feel cheated. Where's the drugs that make eggs look like brains?" -
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...th_marijuana_dc What a bunch of fear mongering garbage. Annual Causes of Death in US Tobacco: 435,000 Poor Diet and Physical Inactivity: 400,000 Alcohol: 85,000 Microbial Agents: 75,000 Toxic Agents: 55,000+ Motor Vehicle Crashes: 43,000 Adverse Reactions to Prescription Drugs: 32,000 Suicide: 30,622 Incidents Involving Firearms: 29,000 Homicide: 20,308 Sexual Behaviors: 20,000 All Illicit Drug Use, Direct and Indirect: 17,000 Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs Such As Aspirin: 7,600 Marijuana: 0 Where's that in the article? Also, the potency...the flaw is that they are testing weed from 1988 now after it has degraded in evidence lockers. Also, the whole treatment thing...The reason so many people get treatment is because it is an alternative to jail. If you had a choice of treatment or prison term, any sane person would choose treatment.

God I hate the Cubbies
LowerCaseRepublican replied to BuehrleTheAce's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
There are also people like me who do not get FSN+ so we are forced to watch the Cubs if we want to watch baseball tonight. -
My candidate is not up there. Libertarian candidate for President or Cobb from the Greens is gonna get my vote.

I work at a farmstand in Joliet over the summer to make some quick cash. It's outside all day doing manual labor stuff. Needless to say after 9 hours outside, I want to go home, get cleaned up and eat. (and sit in the A/C and cool down) I f***ing loathe customers coming 2 minutes until closing when everything is getting packed up and taking their damn sweet time like they have all the time in the f***ing world. I dunno if this is the same for everybody in retail but when you tell them that you're about to close and they still act oblivious to it, I just want to break their legs with a goddamned baseball bat.

He's going to be tried for the crime of playing chess in Yugoslavia? "It was not immediately clear if Fischer would be extradited to the United States, where he is wanted for playing a 1992 chess match in the former Yugoslavia in violation of international sanctions." Gee, I'm glad we have everything else in the court system solved that we can prosecute people for playing chess.

2 dead for the Twins and 2 on. 3-1 still.

Isabel Sanford from "The Jeffersons" has left us..

The Frugal Gourmet, Jeff Smith, also died too. He was a man who touched all our lives...and a few boys' genitals. -
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5412316/site/newsweek/ There were stories by the BBC that ended up being carried in America too http://www.dailystar.com/dailystar/dailystar/21552.php 70-90% of the people being held in Abu Ghraib are being held in error. There was a Congressman a few weeks ago too saying that when the scandal came out that these people were not "common criminals" and that we should not be phased by their torture. Congressmen like that really must hate it when the Truth comes to bit them in the ass.
