  1. They also had Kid Rock and Five for Fighting... :puke I think it was part of their series on the relationship between sports and music or something along those lines.
  2. When his native country becomes a test site for bombing campaigns by the US military, it's a bit natural that he might harbor some tense feelings against the US. He doesn't stand up in the dugout screaming "I'm gonna sit in the clubhouse!" and make himself an attention whore when he refuses to stand for "God bless America". He just goes into the clubhouse and comes back out. Delgado has come under fierce criticism from fans and pundits for this harmless and symbolic gesture. One fan said, before a game in New York: "I think it's totally disrespectful," he said shortly before gametime. "It's a slap directly in my face, as a New Yorker and an American." It is not. Delgado has already identified the reason he is protesting. It has nothing to do with slapping a fan in the face. Offended parties are afflicted with the disease of self-identification with the state, L'Etat C'est Moi in other words. The state is an organization which is separate from the people it rules, and which commits terrible crimes in their name. Awfully convenient then, for the criminals in charge, that many people think they are the state. What a bewildering sight it must surely be, for the blind servants of the state, uncritical and trusting of their politicians, to see someone like Delgado actually walking a different path. Delgado's critics are afraid that he is right, and wrapped in that fear, are lashing out at him, ridiculing his courage. God bless him. That being said...don't we have enough power hitting 1B on the White Sox?
  3. The violence in the Sudan has been going on for years under the radar of most everybody. It's been a bloodbath for years (well since the coup in 1989) there and has stayed out of sight and out of mind. Good to see that something is starting to get done. Don't get me wrong, more can and should be done but at least it's a start getting it to peoples' attention.
  4. I met Michael Moore before Bowling for Columbine came out. I've also met Dennis Kucinich, Rick Winkel (from the IL legislature), Ed Rosenthal, Martin Espada, Daniel Pipes (well not so much met him as called him a bigot), Rich Koz of Svengoolie fame and Peter Singer.
  5. Quit whining. God f***ing damnit, if you're gonna be like this then stop coming here to just whine and piss and moan like a 4 year old who didn't get ice cream. It's infantile and getting really damn annoying. Go be an Indians fan then if you think they're so goddamned good. :fyou :dips*** And CK, I think there needs to be a combo of our team getting the job done on the field and Minnesota sucking more than a Hong Kong prostitute. We have a pretty big cupcake schedule with the Royals etc. coming up and Minnesota is facing a bunch of high caliber teams. It's not reliance, perse, but rather seeing it as a huge opportunity to come back in the division once the White Sox decide to unearth themselves from corpseball. Minnesota has had difficulty against .500 or better teams and as long as Borchard rides the pine, Valentin suddenly becomes able to hit offspeed and Lee & Crede begin to stop the uppercut swing horses*** we've got a shot at this division. The opportunity is there, the players just have to take it.
  6. http://www.antiwar.com/justin/ "A question of character"... Kerry is a mass murderer and Bush is a psycho. What's a voter to do? It's too long for me to cut and paste so give it a read...
  7. Like I've said before...if the Sox walked on water, I'm sure somebody on Soxtalk would b**** that he they couldn't swim. Here's to hoping the Carlos Lee and Valentin stop swinging for the damn fences and popping it out at the fringe of the infield all the damn time. Here's to hoping that Mike Jackson pulls his head out of his ass. Here's to hoping Cotts finally gets to have a meeting with Pitch Control. Here's to hoping that Joe Crede can improve that .230 BA and not swing with an uppercut often (he was touted as the next Rolen. Next Rolen, my ass) Here's to hoping that Loaiza, Garland and Schoeneweis stop serving up more cookies than a f***ing bakery. Here's to hoping that Uribe gets back to where he was in the early part of the season. Here's to hoping that Konerko's back doesn't go out from carrying this team and that Maggs and Frank get back from their injuries ahead of schedule and ready to play. Here's to hoping Ben Davis can break the Mendoza line. We have the potential on this team to hit the s*** out of this ball and pitch to keep ourselves in the game. If the offense would unearth themselves from the corpseball they've buried themselves in, we definitely have a shot at this division. But I am definitely not throwing in the towel because I know these guys are better than the product they've been playing the past few games. Now, that said... :fthecubs :sosasucks and :begood
  8. Currently reading "How to Watch TV News" by Neil Postman and Steve Powers. Pretty interesting read about advertising dollars in the media, how shows are put on the air and is a guide to ask of asking questions like "What is the news?" etc. Other books on the list now are "Sex Lies and Politics" by Larry Flynt, "Manufacturing Consent" by Noam Chomsky and "50 Things You're Not Supposed to Know" by Russ Kick.
  9. Alex, get out of here with your common sense. Obviously he is trying to subvert the team. He's been paid by the Twins to strike out and GIDP in clutch situations and has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that he's been thrust into this due to 2 freak injuries happening at the same time and the fact that he's not 100% ready for the major leagues. He Tonya Harding'ed Magglio's leg just so he could get on the Sox.
  10. I agree 110%. When we're winning it's "The Winning Ugly Sox are back." (an actual quote from Shuf on Apr. 25. Or how about "Viva Ozzieball! Print up the shirts now." (on Apr. 10) But as soon as we hit a skid it's "Sox suck." and "This current team is just as bad as the Royals." and my personal favorite "Season over." with 2 months of baseball left. This bandwagoning bulls*** is really irking the Hell out of me. If you think the season is over, Shuf and others then here's a hint: Don't watch the games. Stop supporting the Sox and stop coming to ST to just whine and b**** like a bunch of goddamned sissies.
  11. Borchard almost gets picked off, Crede folds faster than Superman on laundry day and now Mr. 1 for his last 27 chokes again. Thank god I have a lot of beer in the house tonight. This team is really filled with underachievers.
  12. Here's to hoping we win this game in spite of Garland's performance. Borchard singles and the tying run is now at the plate...We got 8 outs left and we need to pick up a game on the Twinkies tonight. C'mon Crede...just 1 hit. Please....
  13. And Carlos gets the job done with the sac fly. Tie game! Op!
  14. We got a hit! Holy f***! 2 of them and an error throwing it in and Burker scores! 2-1 Tigers and Rowand on 1st with nooooobody out! Op!
  15. Flash, there is a distinct difference between venting frustration and essentially committing a verbal bowel movement like is being done a lot of the time. Statements like "the season is over" and blaming KW for the woes of this club is not putting the blame where it belongs. It's in underachievers like Valentin, Lee, Cotts etc. etc. etc. that are the cause of what is going on. Corpseball has re-emerged. When one can articulate that well without resorting to Henny Penny-esque "The sky is falling" rhetoric, that's venting frustration. One can state that the bullpen is questionable (which it is outside of Shingo, Marte, Politte), that our 3, 4 and 5 starters are quite questionable with Loaiza, Garland and Schoeneweis putting out more cookies than a bakery and that without Frank and Magglio we could be in for a very bumpy ride. But to state that the season's over and that the ownership wants to tell the fans to "f*** off" is complete stupidity. Sure, the ownership has no interest in putting fans in the seats. They totally want to alienate the fan base.
  16. Jeckle, is that you? You hear that? It's the world's smallest violin playing for all the whiners.
  17. Jeebus H. Christpunchers. Some people are just never satisfied. We get the best pitcher on the market when we desperately needed a 5th starter and when that went down everybody lamented over "All Star" Miguel Olivo and Jeremy Reed being shipped off. Last time I checked, Miguel Olivo was a 2 day a week player, had a bad time calling games and was having definite trouble hitting RHP. Reed was not going to help us this season or for a while since we have Lee, Rowand and Magglio who most Sox fans all want to see for the long term. Where does that make room for Reed etc.? We got the best damn pitcher available and I for one thank KW for that. We'd still be in the Rauch/Diaz/Munoz/Cotts/my grandmother search for the 5th starter if he didn't pull the trigger. The fact that we got him for 3 years is even better. All the reactionary "OMG!!111!! He'll have an ERA of 32743274973248234 and he's a flyball pitcher who will lose a bunch of games" has been proven wrong by Garcia pitching for us. He's been a stud and he is a stud. Then he gets us a bat in Carl Everett because we needed more bats. Carl has helped out in the absense of Magglio and Thomas. KW can't control a bum ankle for Thomas occurring at the same time as Magglio has more leg problems so don't blame him for that at all. Jesus f***ing Christ...I'd bet if KW walked on water some people around here would b**** that he couldn't swim. And besides, trades are hard to pull off. I can't get 4 friends to decide where to go out to eat some weekends at school because of prices, tastes, etc. We're talking about the same thing with price tags but instead of $10-20 we're talking millions of dollars. Some people act like a trade can be completed in 1-3 phone calls. KW can't keep people from getting injured and he can't go out on the field and play the damn game for our underachieving players either so quit laying the blame at the feet of KW. He's busted his ass hard to get players like Garcia on the South Side. Put the blame where it belongs...with the underachieving players putting on the uni like Valentin who is 1 for his last 26 in ABs, Mike Jackson, Carlos "Swing for the Fences all the damn time but end up popping out to 2nd base" Lee and Neal Cotts who I can only hope ever gets that call from Mr. Pitch Control among numerous others that it'd take too long to name. Konerko's back has to hurt from his attempt to carry this team.
  18. I think the problem is where a lot of the intelligence was coming from. Hussein Kamal was used by the admin. to get info about their weapons. In his testimony he stated that the programs were destroyed by the UN after the Gulf War and that everything was gone by 1994-1995. Ahmed Chalabi is a convicted felon in Jordan. According to Knight Ridder news wire, the Pentagon has set aside between $3 million and $4 million this year for the Information Collection Program of the Iraqi National Congress, or INC, led by Ahmed Chalabi, said two senior U.S. officials and a U.S. defense official. This is just me thinking out loud...but a convicted felon and a group of disgruntled anti-Saddam Iraqis willing to do anything to get him out of power may not be the best group to get unbiased information from. It says something about our government that they got fleeced so damn badly. (Although this intelligence did play into the hands of the neo-conservatives and neo-liberals in PNAC who have been advocating the conquest of the mid-East in order to control/stabilize world oil resources since the early 1990s when PNAC was created.)
  19. These are getting annoying. I concur with Spiff and Mathew. I get drunk too and have better things to do that post polls on Soxtalk when I'm drunk.
