  1. WAR has a strong correlation to actual wins, I honestly find that hard to believe. The “hate“ for Jim Thome certainly did not come from more analytics oriented people. Most arguments against him boiled down to asinine arguments like base clogging. Which is probably the dumbest point I have ever seen.
  2. Fun fact: Adam LaRoche had a better year when the Sox signed him. And he was a better defensive player-
  3. If that was correct he should be walking more. But he isn‘t, in fact his walk rate is down. If anything that‘s a knock on Abreu‘s strike zone judgement.
  4. If you can‘t quantify something in baseball, it very likely doesn‘t exist. There is a reason the stat revolution happened first in baseball. It’s the easiest sport to apply mathematical analysis. I have yet to see a convincing argument for the existence of the hitters around someone making someone perform better offensively.
  5. There has been some statistical analysis that suggests that lineup protection is a myth.
  6. Sale scheduled to visit Dr.Andrews. Hopefully it’s not as bad as that sounds.
  7. He ditched it in 2016.
  8. Osich still being there is more of a result of Hamilton being cursed this year, Burr having TJS and Burdi being toast.
  9. First guy out of the pen, sure why not. Anything beyond that is a bad idea.
  10. Meh, Tim and Eloy playing well makes this a good game regardless
  11. Marshall is just this year’s version of Matt Albers, regression will hit him hard.
  12. It is nice though to finally have some guys in the DSL who could be guys to follow.
  13. @fathom Would you say that was a BOMB?
  14. That Astros pen is just nasty. Even their worst reliever would be pretty easily our 3rd best reliever.
  15. Bummer gotta hold them right there, some groundballs found holes
  16. The same Brandon Belt that is hitting .229/.345/.381 and is owed another 35 mil? Yeah,no...
  17. You seem to struggle with the concept of an innings eater. Even with a 5+ ERA Nova was doing his job.
  18. Tyler Flowers sucks, his framing numbers don‘t offset his deficiencies at blocking and throwing. His good hitting seasons were fueled by inflated BABIP numbers. What kind of revisionist history is this?
  19. What a waste of 9mil Nova is. Should have signed Buchholz, who has pitched *checks notes* 24 innings this year. Nova has done exactly what the Sox needed this year, even when he got lit up.
  20. Good thing is Castillo‘s tenure with the Sox is over in 6 weeks.
  21. No the Sox have too many bad players.
  22. I feel like this never gets called anymore after the first year of the implementation of this rule
  23. Springer ambushed a first pitch fastball and then the Astros got two scratch hits. So,what?
  24. .620, but he at least provides defensive value.
