  1. It‘s pretty amazing that Yolmer has this >20% K-rate while hitting for no power at all
  2. That’s why you bat Jon Jay cleanup. Should have been his second infield hit.
  3. Not even close. Cease strikes out over a batter an inning. Giolito was at 6.5K/9 and also walked more batters. Cease has a 20% HR/FB rate that will normalize.
  4. The HR/FB rate against Cease is ridiculously inflated. I expect that to come down. He is striking guys out a good clip and cut down his walks. He will be fine.
  5. typical greg trolling aside: The Rays are doing something like that, and they have been running circles around the Sox for years.
  6. If he continues to be bad, no way. They should just shut down Herrera and hope he can come back healthy next year.
  7. I don‘t recall Matt Skole hitting one ball hard in his stint with the Sox.
  8. Moncada is a little bit like Alexei when it comes to injuries.
  9. What do you expect him to say? We’re violating the CBA by gaming his service time, please don’t tell anyone?
  10. Sure, moving over a guy from second is a more desirable outcome than making an unproductive out, but the game has evolved into something completely different from a decade ago and good teams don‘t want their players to play small ball. Insisting on doing it, because it is the “right“ way to play puts you at a disadvantage against most teams. Look at the Dodgers, they don‘t shorten their swings at all just to move a runner, if it happens they‘ll take it, but they aren’t looking to do it.
  11. I think that Moncada kid could be a decent player someday.
  12. Detwiler should be AAA depth. He has pitched better than expected, but let’s not get crazy here.
  13. Show me a team that’s insisting on doing the little things like bunting guys over and hitting behind runners and I show you a loser in 2019.
  14. 30 homers is the new 20 in this era.
  15. Honest question: Has Matt Skole hit a ball hard since getting called up?
  16. His hard hit rate is up slightly, but his BABIP is at .304. his O-Zone swing % is the same as last year‘s and right in line with his career avg. 37.1% this year vs. 37,5% for his career.
  17. Konerko actually slightly improved his K and BB-rate in 2008, his “decline“ was entirely BABIP driven. Abreu‘s peripheral stats are trending in the wrong direction.
  18. The $/WAR number isn‘t a valuation of what one win should be worth on the open market, but rather what one win ended up costing. That‘s an important distinction that includes every FA signing that bombed.
  19. I can‘t find anything about that. In 2015 the Red Sox finished last in their division with 78 wins, which was the 12th worst record in the league, but they ranked 14th in cumulative WAR. This has been the biggest outlier regarding the Red Sox I was able to find, but it‘s not that far off base.
  20. Yeah, I just think he hasn‘t been all that great for 2 years now. The numbers back that up. Signing him to a 1yr deal would be okay with me as the market isn‘t great. Still a position the Sox should look to upgrade, it‘s just not #1 on the priority list.
