Yes, imagine a line up leading off with Anderson and Eaton that was Burns in the 9 hole. That's a lot of speed, imagine being a pitcher and having to have off against Burns, Eaton and Anderson.

Burns' hitting cratered this season. He may not be toast but he has no power and his MiLB numbers don't exactly inspire confidence.

 

A guy who actually was designated was Nick Tepesch, who could give the Sox more depth. He's better than, like, Chris Volstad.

Billy Burns is arbitration eligible in 2018 at the earliest he's not getting non-tendered.

If Britt Burns had won Game Four vs. the O's the Sox were a lock for the WS with an automatic Game Five home victory behind LaMarr Hoyt. One of the biggest chokes in Sox history not scoring one run in 9 innings and losing in 10 on the Oriole homer.
