What's up with Saladino?

They can with surgery. One guy who came back from it is that real good shortstop who played for Braves and Dodgers ( can't place his name). Todd Helton came back and played a few more years. Both had their back problems in 2009.

The guy had a herniated disk last year, right? I don't think those things just "go away."

I've had two of them... they suck.

I believe Ivan Calderon had one, tried to play through it, eventually had the surgery and came back strong the next year. Whatever happens, I wish the best for Saladino: the guy is a ball player.

Surgery is the last option. It's much better to try conservative interventions first. Once the anatomy is altered with surgery it's a flip of the coin. Look at Crede for one on the downside.

:notworthy

I had a love affair for Saladino but I'm over him. I do feel sorry for him having a bad back, don't wish that on anybody. But I've given up on him being a good major leaguer. I thought he could hit .315 in his sleep over 500 at bats. I was wrong.

Well it's hard to hit.315 when you're on the DL

Regardless we are going to have a boatload of IF'ers. Leury, Yolmer, Hansen and Saladino plus Moncada coming up at some point. Not to mention our SS Anderson

I think Sanchez or Leury gets traded at the deadline. I don't know how else playing time will work once Moncada is up.

A lot of guys here fell in love with him, but most of the smarter minds took Saladino for what he is: a solid utility player.

Going to be some tough decisions when Leury and Saladino get healthy.

Congrats on the debilitating back injury.

Ehh. Willy goes down. By then Frazier should be gone.

I really don't think that many people saw his as a long term solution as a starter.

PS: Might want to reduce the general insults on other posters.

You win some you lose some. I'm sure you've been wrong more than you've been right.

Edit: I've actually only ever said he could probably be a starting 2B/SS on a stacked offensive team that could carry his glove in the 9-spot.

Good point.

I love/d saladino. He was the one that proved to me that the production that we could get from our not that great AAA replacement players wasn't that different than the 1-year deal vets we kept stuffing the roster with. He 100% maximized his baseball talent level. I also don't think I ever intimated that he was more than a very useful player that played 3 positions well and showed surprising power and baseball IQ that stood apart. We didn't need to sign gordon beckham or bonifacio anymore.

But a player like that also has no room for error unfortunately. And I just think backs are more likely than not to really disrupt play.

Yeah back issues are no fun and seem to linger and end guys' careers sooner.

He was a 1.3 WAR prior to his back injury. He's a guy. We know that already.

A 1.3 WAR player would fit amongst the upper tier of Sox players over the past decade.

I bet you actually hurt your back trying to pat yourself on the back again.

That's an indictment of the White Sox, not really an endorsement for Saladino

I will never understand people who get so much joy out of I told you so.

I'm nearly certain you were among the people who thought Saladino was a nice piece but not a starter on a WS contender. I could be wrong, though.

Yep, childish.
