Who says we cant compete next year?

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 12:57 PM)
This team isn't going to be competitive

The biggest lineup problem is the K:BB ratio

we have the fifth most strikeouts as a team and the 3rd least walks

Davidson is the biggest problem child, but Engel has this issue as well.

Even Abreu, who's been a monster, has had very few walks.

The biggest rotation problem is James Shields

Second biggest is lack of experience and consistency

The biggest bullpen problem is we don't have a proven one

If everything went right we would win like 78-84 games, resutling in a worst case scenario for 2019 draft pick

I hope we suck next year but trim the fat

Considering we'll have a lot of the next competitive team's core pieces on next year's team assuming Eloy and Kopech eventually come up, I wouldn't see a 78-84 record as a worst case scenario, unless it was all due to sequencing/run differential luck or something similar. That's way closer to a best case scenario than a worst case scenario. That means our young guys did well and we can compete in 2019 with a good offseason.

Greg was serious as TA's numbers were projecting OK for a catcher offensively not so much as a SS. TA is hot and I love it but some of you forget how badly he was hitting. HIs free swinging style, ala, Salvy Perez swinging at everything, made him an intriguing transformation candidate to catcher. I had my reasons. Ron is trolling big time.

But you fail to understand that it's easier said than done to move someone to catcher who has likely never played the position.

Yeah, I'm thinking that taking a young fast short stop and moving him to catcher where he's going to be squatting every game will do nothing but hurt his speed. If TA is to be moved from SS, which I don't agree with, it should be to the outfield where his speed would be better utilized. That said, IMHO, TA is right where he should be, at SS.

Funny. As I was typing this post TA knocked in two with a single. :headbang

And if they want him to catch, he would likely be in the minors for a few years. Outfield would be the logical move. I'm not advocating for a move just disagreeing with the catcher move.

I hear ya and agree that catcher is just not a good idea for TA. He will be fine and has been much better over the past month or so.

I can't believe people are actually treating greg's idea here with anything other than a LMAO. Anderson isn't going anywhere.

I know. But remember how badly TA was doing? I was projecting stats and he projected to be a decent catcher. I'm glad he's doing fine now and looks like a Lindor superstar candidate frankly now.

He's on a roll which is great. Might hit .270 by season's end.

He reminded me of a shorter Sandy Alomar.

Anderson at the time of the discussion was sucking horribly. Now he's doing fine.

As I said, I refuse to treat the idea of moving Tim Anderson to catcher as anything other than a joke.

For my own selfish reasons, the only thing I look forward to when I wake up every morning is Cody Asche's Blue Steel.

That Indians team is still going to be a monster next year. The only guy of any real value to them they lose as a FA is Santana, they have still got talent on the way up and resources to trade, and if they make some minor moves they should have the money to spend to replace Santana. They apparently will tease the rest of the central for at least a month or two and then win all their games in one ridiculous stretch in order to put everyone else away, but we aren't going to be anywhere close to them.

You know how sarcasm is translated around here. Without the green letters people just don't see it. Ron883 mocked greg sarcastically but I think a few took his answer seriously and then it all started .

is that a euphemism for morning wood?...
