That seems very low. Makes me think an extension is in the works.

MLBTR had him projected at 17.9 strange he would agree to such a below the line contract without going to ARB. It will definitely cost him next year.

His agent does. I haven't seen the $13 million anywhere else. Maybe it is incorrect.

The projected contracts are based off of what similar players have done and got paid. Why wouldn't he and his agent care?

This is a nice 5 million dollar gift for the white sox.

It seems Jose risked a heck of a lot opting into arb if he is only making $1.5 million more than he would have after a pretty big season.

How does this affect the possibility of the Sox trading him? He now has a very attractive contract, for this year, but it would be a little disloyal to trade him, now that he has agreed to take less than he could have gotten, in arbitration. I hope that he is extended, but just wondered about the implications of this year's contract.

No kidding. Obviously hindsight 20/20 but the trade off of getting rid of the 1st round compensation in return for a harder luxury tax was not worth it. The protected players are still not getting signed and...nobody is getting signed.

Do you think maybe Jose is a great team player and wants to be with the Sox? $13M is a lot of money and building a winning ball club includes a player like Abreu. I have to believe an extension is very possible because the the Sox want to keep him too

It plays deeply because usually there are soft limits on how much of a raise a player gets year to year. I don't have the numbers infront of me but MLBTR had him receiving a 6 million dollar raise this year the fact he got 2 million will affect the formula and how much money he'll get next year.

 

So yeah instead of getting 40 million over the next two. He'll probably at best get 30 million. Makes it more likely he either signs an extension or moved.

 

Blackmon got $14mm from Rockies, which is in line with Abreu's number, but Donaldson got $23mm, which is not.

I think he deserves 16 million this season.
