Bear with me please.

Jake Burger is 21 not projected to be a big leaguer til he's 24. The new line of thought is you are washed up after your age 29 season. So Burger has five seasons to do something in baseball. Interesting. The way this is going nowadays, not many ballplayers are ever going to compile Hall of Fame-ish numbers. Players aren't going to be getting started til 24 or 25 minimum and will be considered expendable at 30, 31. How did we get to this point there's such a small window for baseball players? Every ballplayer should be furious at the age of analytics. Killing their checkbooks.

Where are you getting this idea they are done when they are 29? There is no foundation in fact here.

This site is way more enjoyable if you put this poster on ignore. If he's not a troll, then he's the Soxtalk version of a WSCR caller during Mike North hosted programs. I'm not sure which is worse between a deliberate instigator or a natural idiot, but the "ignore" option keeps me from having to deal with either option.

I don't know how you could call a fellow South Sider an idiot but to each his own. I'm just a Sox fan wanting to win.

The fact Moustakas can't get a good contract at 29. He's not a superstar but he's above average player. The fact that I sense a general vibe that Abreu is "too old" to get excited about and won't produce through the length of even our next WS window. Opinions like that.

It's not that people/teams think players suck after they're 29. It's just that no one wants to pay for their mid/upper-30s years.

Because Mike Moustakas isn't getting the 5 year contract he's been seeking, that means all players are done at 29? Come on.

Abreu is 31 and still doing very well. In fact he proves you wrong pretty directly. It's just the reality that in a couple years at 33, history says most players begin to fade by then. Some do, some don't. There are plenty of 33-year-olds still playing though, and much older.

Why am I doing this to myself?

Do you agree with me that because of this, careers are going to be shorter in the future and good luck compiling Hall of Fame numbers if you are a ballplayer?

Do you at least agree with my premise that it's going to be VERY HARD or at least much harder for players to put up Hall of Fame numbers in the future with a changing mindset regarding age?

No one is saying those players are useless. They are saying teams don't wanna pay what they used to for them. They can still play long careers they just wont get long contracts for outrageous money anymore.

Only for the counting stats that people aren't putting as much significance on anymore.

Next offseason, Bryce Harper and Clayton Kershaw will probalby sign contracts that cover something close to 18-20 years between them. Manny Machado will probably get something 10 years long. The next offseason Chris Sale will probably sign for something like 8 years if healthy, and he'll be 30 years old at the time.

Should be interesting to see if the voters completely change their criteria in coming years/decades. Because it seems like WAR is the big thing now. However, good luck getting the voters to toss out the normal stats of the past.

Well what will happen is those guys will die...

What I learned today:

29 is over the hill

Hall of fame voters use war now so all other stats are meaningless. The statniks have won

Great thread

we've reached peak offseason. Luckily, it ends in a week. Then we can read about the new stats that say Yoan Moncada is in the best shape of his life.

I can’t wait until people start freaking out about Kopech showing up at like 93 on the radar gun and saying his velocity is way down after their has been countless articles saying this Spring and season he is going focus primarily on offspeed stuff.

Just wait, it’s coming.

No way, it will be myself and others freaking out about Giolito and Lopez's velocity
