On RLR today, Dave said that the Sox current offer of 7 years, 245-250 million currently has us in the lead for Machado, but his contact told him not to tweet it

So his contact is ok with him saying it out loud in a podcast?

I just don’t see why Machado and his agent would only want a 7 year deal? If there are no opt outs he’ll be 32-33. What kind of deal is he really looking at after that?

I should clarify, I think the contact said to hold off on tweeting it for a few hours or something like that

He elaborated and said he predicts the winning bid to be more like 8/270

I would hope the Sox step up and add the 8th year to get it done if that's the case.

In general or with the Sox? If the Phillies go 10 /$325 I think his prediction is meaningless.

I interpreted it as in general but not sure. This all starts around the 36:10 mark of today's episode

Does dave WSD really know the offer why would he get this info it would be secret not given out to anyone.

7 years/$245m is an even $35m a year. Go 8 years/$280.

I mean, it's not like it would be a secret to other teams. The agent talking to other teams would reveal what the current offers are so the other team can offer more.

He (somehow) has legitimate sources.

It's not about what they want, but what teams will agree to. And hitting the market again at 33 would be a lot better for him than hitting it at 36. It's riskier, but maybe instead of a hypothetical $100 mil over years 8-10, he could sign a new contract from age 33-37 which would pay him $150 mil.

Why would the Phillies LEEROY JENKINS by giving Machado 2 years and $85 mil more than the next highest offer?

That's a pretty weak offer to me.

It would make him the richest player on an AAV basis in the history of baseball.

Ok then if that's the case it should be over soon then.

If yankees only at 4 years $150M then ya.

My opinion is nobody is going to give Machado at 33 years old a $150 mil deal for 4 years. That would be insane.

Nobody knows what the “highest” bid is right now. It’s all opinions.

No.  7 years and $245M is $35M in average annual value (AAV).  That would be the highest AAV ever given to a player in the history of baseball.  It is not a weak offer, and that has nothing to do with what the Yankees offer is.

WSD just eyeballed. MM?

Its for the goose island field goal challenge.

He quoted the Goose Island tweet so its about that.

I meant season 33-37, which is 5 years. If he's hitting 35-40 homers a year at that point and giving good defense at 3B (even if no longer elite), it's not out of the ream of possibility that the market at that point could give him $30 mil a year. Either way, he'd likely get more AAV for ages 36-37 if he signed 7 then 5 year deals, rather than a 10 and a 2. And a 7 year deal would like give a higher AAV than 10, so he could make more overall if he stays healthy. So it's not *all* bad for him. But yes, he is going to take the best offer overall. We don't know what any teams are really offering, but nothing we know would lead us to believe the Phillies are offering anything close to 10/$325.
