2/28 ST game thread

If it's true that the Sox told Guyer to expect to get ABs for us, I see no way Delmonico can make the team out of spring training. And if they plan to really give Guyer a spot on the roster, that will mean one of Engel or Palka goes away when Eloy comes up.

Mixed bag for Gio today, according to Fegan.

Continue building up for the season, and maybe he gets that velocity back. We'll see.

He looked fine. Wasn't missing many bats, but was getting pop ups and weak contact. The defense let him down.

Doesn't Gio always look good in ST and then once the real thing starts he goes back to being bad? Isn't that what happened last year?

Mariners’ guys had him at 93 as well.

Same as last year.  Control issues.  Terrible defense behind him.

Two Moncada K’s.

Narvaez gets his first hit against us.

Hard to say "always", but yes, he looked great last ST and Fangraphs even had an article showing how much better his delivery was and how he may be on track for a James Paxton breakout year.....and then he reverted.

Well, last year he looked decent...throwing 93-95+ and then lost his velocity the first 2-3 months in Chicago.

TA7 with a bomb to CF. Probably went 425 or so. He pimped it too.

Engel singles and steals 2B easily.

I love Timmy. ?

Palka has at least 1 option remaining.

You say that as if we have more than a year of history to look at

Yes, which is my point exactly. He's only been up for one full season in the Majors. Give him time.

Sox fans have nothing but time...taxes, then eventual/inevitable deaths without another World Series.

Moncada just got down 0-2 in the count against a lefty and actually took a nice controlled swing and ripped one up the middle, almost killed Elias, who threw him out relatively easily after recovering from the shock.

Yeah, but so far he's been striking out vs. MLB pitchers and raking vs. AAA pitchers. It is kind of concerning.

Yay, more Adam Engel bunt ground outs...and poor Jose Rondon buried forever on the bench behind Yolmer and Leury.

So much for the Jordan Stephens for Fifth Starter campaign.  We hardly knew ye.

Yep. He also threw hard that spring then lost it (although to be fair it was cold as hell at the beginning of the year last year.)
