April 12, 20197 yr Not exactly sure what swapping Frare with Osich accomplishes. Take the 25 year old lefty reliever that has a future with the organization and trade him out for a 30 year old lefty reliever who doesn't have a future with the organization and has been mostly terrible in his previous chances in the show.

Way to let our young guys actually work through their growing pains. Even more frustrating with the upcoming rule changes that will greatly reduce the value of LOOGY’s. Really need to know if Frare can be more than a left-handed specialist and now is the time to find out.

I kind of agree. The kid looked pretty good late last year. Pretty quick demotion considering the record of some others still on the roster
April 12, 20197 yr I mean like...if you're trying to win games, fine. But clearly they aren't, so may as well let the kids that potentially have a future figure their shit out at the major league level. At this point, there is really no point in playing journeymen guys that aren't going to return anything even if they have an awesome 2-3 months.
April 12, 20197 yr Im looking to win now if it makes sense. If Osich is better than Frare then this is a good move, our pitching has been awefull, we need some guys that are reliable and can clamp it down. If they are the same then its not a good move. Frare was awesome in AAA Charlotte last year, so I do think we could have given him more of a chance. According to your logic we should demote and release Herrera and Colombe because of their age and bring up the guys that may play in 2022. Lets hope this is not greedy Hahn who wants to build up Osich to trade him. These are people not assembly line products!

Herrera and Colombe are actually good, valuable, and has a good track record unlike Osich who supports a career 5 era. Nice try though

Herrera and Colome actually have the chance to return something of value. Osich could pitch 25 innings with a 1.5 ERA and no one would give you anything of note for him in July. Vastly different.

April 12, 20197 yr Let Frare work on things in Charlotte, get some confidence and come back later. It's going to be a revolving door as usual, so going to Charlotte is no big deal. If he's good enough, he'll be back. Edited April 12, 20197 yr by Dick Allen

So using that logic, would you want to see Luis Robert and Nick Madrigal come up to the major league club in the next few weeks?

I know he threw yesterday so he isn't ready to go today, but so far on the year Carson Fulmer is back to showing promise. Maybe don't rush him, but if it is a revolving door I'd like to see him swing back through it, maybe even within a few weeks.
April 12, 20197 yr Anyone who gets sent down will come back if warranted. There isn't anyone who is going to be really good someday UNLESS they get sent to Charlotte.

Simple. This is called losing on purpose, tanking while the owner is laughing all the way to the bank.

There is literally no parallel between these 2 things: 1) Wanting to having a major league ready reliever that has a (decent) shot of being part of the next core to be pitching at the big league level over a 30 year old journeyman who has zero chance to be part of the next core. 2) Rushing our 2 best non pitching prospects to the big leagues when both guys have a combined total of less than 500 at bats in pro baseball and neither of which have appeared above A ball. It is silly. These 2 things are nothing alike. Edited April 12, 20197 yr by ChiSox59
April 13, 20197 yr What's the deal, Frare has looked horrible and could probably use some time in AAA to get more consistent appearances with less pressure. I saw Frare as a guy who would go up and down a few times from the start.
April 13, 20197 yr I don't see Frare as having a big future in the org. He's a LOOGY - they had like 2 or 3 of them on the 25 last year who were better than he was and could barely give them away in July. Numerous LOOGY's in the minors. And isn't the LOOGY obsolete after this season? Better learn to get righties out. And he still has his 40 man spot nice and tidy, so he can come back. Edited April 13, 20197 yr by GreenSox
April 13, 20197 yr Maybe the FO thinks whatever is troubling Frare can be fixed in Charlotte easier than in Chicago. Osich just ends up being the temporary replacement until Frare looks capable of contributing at the MLB level. Not every player improves at the MLB level. Looks like the FO doesn't think Coop can fix him.
