I love how you see this title and expect to at least see a link to a story like this is a legit article headline and might have facts. Not even close.

Common sense/logic. Those two franchises really have NO CHOICE, especially with the end of Clayton Kershaw Era nearing, but certainly not his contract. The Yankees, with the Red Sox spinning

You’ve been around here long enough, you have to consider the author of the thread....you knew what you were getting into :)

I usually don't look at the creator until I click on the thread haha

Okay, let's close this thread.

Someone doesn't like SPECULATION...heaven forbid, it's a message board.

So we should only talk about something that's officially sourced...wait, no, even with a source online, which could be pretty much any random millennial in his mom's basement these days, which means we can then spend lots of time attacking the source/writer if we don't like them or accept their viewpoints.

If the Yankees and Dodgers don't do something major, especially with the Red Sox and Cubs retrenching/retooling...then their fanbases aren't going to be happy.

Baseball is a business.  You can't keep raising ticket prices 10-15% every offseason and promising a World Series title without ever delivering one to those two markets.

You're literally stating it as fact though.

All I know is I will definitely pee multiple times tomorrow, and both the a Dodgers & Yankees will have high payrolls next year...like they do every year.

But when in the last decade was there MORE pressure on BOTH organizations to win, simultaneously?

For the Yankees, it has been a decade since their last World Series win.

For the Dodgers, Kershaw's best years are behind him and they've been in the post-season seven consecutive seasons without a trophy, which goes back over three decades for that most historic of franchises.

Can’t argue with you man, you’re right.  This offseason should be a good test to see how sharp the teeth of the luxury tax really are.

Frankly, if it is so sharp that both those teams stay under again, and the Red Sox drop under - I think that increases the likelihood of a work stoppage. That was the Union's line - the luxury tax was not going to turn into a salary cap.

The teeth of the luxury tax are sharp enough that you can only exceed it once. It IS a de facto salary cap, and the owners are never going to give that back in a million years. What's killing spending right now is that there is a salary cap, but no salary floor. The MLBPA has to bite the bullet and allow a cap and floor model. They've lost the salary cap fight forever. It's here to stay. A salary cap with no floor is every sports franchise owner's dream scenario. Tony Clark fucked up.
