Brock Holt DFA

A lot of posters wanted this guy in the offseason. He's struggled this year, and I am sure a lot of teams will be looking at him, but with all the debate around bringing Yolmer back, what would everyone think about this guy instead? Worth a shot?

Would love Holt . A slow start shouldn't be a reason for a player of his caliber to be DFA.

With basically 30 days left, I think Yolmer makes more sense as a guy who already is a fit with this organization.

He's got a lifetime OPS of 705. They aren't missing much. Mazara is 750 and everyone is running him out of town.

Once Madrigal comes back, Mendick moves into the Goins role. So IDK if Holt or Yolmer would be very interested. Neither would play much if there isn’t an injury.

Holt's value lies in his versatility. Plays every position from 3rd through 1st and both corners in the OF . He can sort of be Leury without the speed or  switch hitting, but a good baseball player,  much like the way people talk about Madrigal.

Leury is out and  I have a sneaky feeling Madrigal might spend some time in Schaumburg. Madrigal isnt going to be handed 2nd base just like that.

Ok. but they have Mendick and Madrigal. I guess they could use him for another guy. For the OF the have Engel #1 off the bench. But with the expanded rosters he would just sit in Schaumburg.

I think Madrigal will be handed 2B when he is ready. He is already playing in Schaumburg with gradual  increasing activity.

For the record, don't forget, Lopez went 2 innings in his Sim game last time around in Schaumburg.  He probably has around a 50 pitch outing at the most today.

So, you're saying he is out after 1 inning.

With Rey, there is always that chance.

Madrigal is in Schaumburg right now. He will be the 2B, Mendick will be the back up IF. So Yolmer or Holt would be behind him.Unless there is another injury, with a little over one month left, hardly any opportunity.

Would you expect any lingering effects from his injury throwing batting fielding or base running ?

We shall see.

Does anyone know if Mendick has ever worked out in the OF?  It would sure add to his value.

Agreed. If there are no better offers maybe one comes here but they can see that there isn't much playing time here.

No. He'll have his 4 weeks of healing. As long as he doesn't land on it again, it should be fine. So maybe his slide or diving for a ball maybe effected.

Someone said in a different thread that he had around 9 games a couple of seasons ago.

Fake news.

Well, technically he is correct because he is spending time there now. He didn't say WHEN he would spend time there.

Yes he will. They already burned the 7th year. Madrigal will start at 2B as soon as he's ready.

That's why I suspect he will be in Schaumburg longer than we think.

With Mendick playing well all around and giving professional at bats while flashing power and the team winning why upset the apple cart with Madrigal by just handing a perhaps weakened Madrigal the job ?

I think Madrigal will be back on Tuesday vs the PIrates and if not, probably for the Kansas City series.

He would be a good addition
