I used to be a catcher, and I was pretty good so I played against some teams Votto was on. Votto would call the pitches out of the pitchers hand. Not to be an asshole, he would just talk to himself. 
I was calling the pitch, but he would say immediately “ball” or “slider” out loud to himself the second it left the pitchers hand. 
I hated him so much but appreciate him now. Some guys have it.
