IIRC Lynn played under Tony with the Cards early in his career.

Yep, so did Molina, Wainwright and Pujols. Hopefully we won't be seeing any of them next year in a White Sox uniform.

That's why I don't want anything to do with Lynn.

If they trade anything more than the offer in the OP for Lynn it would be a massive overpay.

Yeah innings guy to keep pen fresh

It’s definitely a plus

No pitcher should be compared to Arrieta. What he did has basically never been done before.

Gammons just said Lynn fits the mold of what Tony wants

Lynn competes his ass off.  The Sox have had too many guys who don't compete.  They're at 100 pitches in the 4th damn inning.  They're happy to five and dive. That ain't Lynn. He attacks the strike zone and works deep into games.  He and Giolito at the top will set the tone for the rest of the staff.  He's exactly what this team needs.  Another guy who will get after it and compete.

Just sign guys. I'd only trade for Lynn if the free agent pool was dry and I'd want Gallo too.

Ehhh there’s really no one after Bauer that’s a top of the rotation type of pitcher. If it doesn’t cost you that much than you make that trade 100 percent.

Like I said I think that Lynn is in the Tanaka/Sugano tier.

I'd rather sign someone like Odorizzi or Arihara than trade anything more than the OP suggestion for Lynn.

If they even ask for Cease or Madrigal(who I don't like all that much but haven't given up on yet) That's an immediate hangup for me if I'm Hahn.

And he's probably a big fan too.

I dont see how Arrieta is an apt comparison

Arrieta, age 32-33 4.53 FIP 1.369 whip 3.2 bb/9 7.2 k/9

Lynn 3.43 FIP 1.173 whip 2.6 bb/9 10.3 k/9

Arrieta had a couple years that were absurd outliers from his previously putrid performance followed by a visibly sharp decline, while there is no hint of decline in Lynn's recent performance, which has for the most part been consistently good throughout his career. In his case, one mediocre season is the outlier. He just averaged more than 7 innings per start. Arrieta was struggling to get through five at age 33. There is nothing there that suggests he is on a similar arc to Arrieta. Their career totals may sum up to be similar, but their careers have been anything but.

Wow, that’s a crazy ask. I wouldn’t even give up Cease or Dunning straight up for Lynn.

What about Dunning +?
