I don't think it will change because once covid bans are lifted there won't be that many DHs anymore.

Reason they are needed now is the shortened season and make up games due to covid postponements.

For a couple DHs a year you don't need to change the rule.

If it is popular and makes money,  it will be adopted.  I remember when doubleheaders were the norm.

  • Want to add one thing about 7-inning doubleheaders...it needs to be fair.  If they're going to do it, it needs to be because they're trying to shorten the season by playing an equal amount of schedule

  • The cost is a wash. What is spent on a DH is money not used in other areas. The AL hasn't had a $10 million per team higher payroll average than NL teams. Their budgets don't change. Their allocation

  • Right but it squeezes out the higher paid utility guys, and back up catchers and middle relievers. In the end, the owners  sell it as another high priced roster spot, but the reality is they make it u

7 inning double headers--yay

No Universal DH--Boo

Runner starting on 2B in 10th inning--BOOOO, but we knew it was coming. It actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be last year. But I still don't like it.

I hate that the records are being distorted by rule changes to speed up the game.  Who are all these people in a big rush to get the games over with?  Part of having built a strong bullpen is to handle the workload of nine-inning games.  When you put a runner on second...the effectiveness of a Hoyt Wilhelm type pitcher is reduced because of the pasted ball element.  The universal DH has some merit IMO.  It does speed up the game by eliminating the double switch over managing and equalizes the fairness of interleague play.

Records have been changed and distorted throughout the history of baseball.  Complete games and stolen bases are a rarity now, they have changed the height of the mound multiple times, the size of fields has gotten smaller to encourage home runs, relief pitchers have become specialists

the game always changes

He's having a banner off season.

And sometimes for the better.

Sometimes you don't find out it is for the better until it plays out.  That said, I'm not a fan of the 7th inning games and runner in second stuff at all,  but DH and 3 hitter rule I'm ok with.  As long as I don't have to sit through yankee or Red Sox games that take 4 hours every time because they are making a pitching change four times in one inning for matchups

I'm not sure if Manfred hates baseball, or just hates people that love baseball.

He is a small boob hired by big boobs to do dumb boob stuff

I can live with 7-inning double-headers although I am not crazy about it. I am against further expansion of the playoffs. Teams should get into the post-season as a reward for an excellent regular season. I am not  one for an 84-win team getting into the post-season and then "hope to get hot." If the regular season becomes so meaningless, why bother to watch? Just wait for some diluted post-season for fake enthusiasm. Then wait for the dumb ass owners to come up with some other rule changes to ruin a great game and make a ton of money while doing it.

This made my day

I admit it...I live in the past.  I liked it when the American League champ and the National League champ met in the World Series.  These playoff series are about the money...not who is the best team.  Yes, I know...those days are gone forever.

Not a fan of 7 inning DHs or runner on second, but it does make sense during a pandemic. Once this is behind us, hopefully the rules are as well.

Yeah I get it during a pandemic. I kinda wish the runner on second to start the inning would start in like the 12 or something, giving each team 3 chances to win it with regular rules.

Exactly. I don't know how they don't look at it as common sense. There's no common sense in wanting a man on 2nd base to start an inning. That's a gimmick, but I understand the need to not have 15+ inning games.  So play the 10th and 11th like major leaguers, and if it's still tied, go to the coin flip, man on 2nd in the 12.

Why don't they just play every spring training game as an inter squad game if there are 75 rostered players at each site.

Or just play one other team.  Sox v Dodgers for a month.

For pure competition reasons I hope this never happens.  I would hate to have the sox face the same team for an entire month
